Jasonv2 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Right, but that's the point. As he is now, Prime is a seperate frame with nothing different but gold trim. So they could take it in two diferent directions. I rather have Prime be a skin. If they added new abilties to him and he ended up stronger than Excaliber. Stuff like that starts to get a little pay to win, esp with prime being a Founder's exclusive item. I think League of Legends does a perfect job when it comes to stuff like this. Make most of your money on cosmetics. They could release prime skins for other frames. Maybe even create "legendary" type skins, that have certain visual effects but cost more money.
Sealgaire Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 They're not exactly the same, the Prime has slightly higher stats and come's with an orokin reactor. It's just a little perk to founders who buy the Hunter and up packages. It's not supposed to be some big deal.
VelenoHargreaves Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Was it proved that Prime has better stats? And the orokin reactor... If you can buy the Hunter then plat is not a problem... It really doesn't make sense to me... I don't know if I'm too small minded for this kind of way to sell stuff but for me is, again, redundancy, to have two warframes... Try to see by this point of view: You are a guy who just got started on the game, and everything you see on the forum and even on the Founder logo is the Excalibur. You don't know the game, don't know if it is good or anything, so what you do? You test it... And right on the start, BAM Excalibur on tutorial. Excalibur everywhere. You finish the tutorial and need to choose between Excalibur, Loki and Volt, being those last two, a complete blind choice, since you don't even know what they are or what they can do... So mostly the guy chooses the Excalibur, because he feels secure to use something he already has a little experience. He plays the game, loves it and want to buy the founder, his excalibur got lvl 30 with pro (50 starter plats) and then he discover that the founder he want to buy (hunter or above) will give him an Excalibur Prime! No explanation on founder that is a completly new warframe. (Personal view: For me Excalibur Prime always were a skin that you could get when you buy the founder), And he will have two warframes, exactly equal to each other, and will be forced to buy another slot for warframes, because the slot that he had is now taken for the Excalibur Prime. He has two identical warframes (in stats, skills or whatever) that you will only use one...
Jasonv2 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Even if the stats are slightly higher it's mostly negligible, because otherwise it would make it pay to win if they made Prime that much more powerful. Esentially the frame plays and looks the same. I get that they want to add alittle something and not have it be a big deal, an exclusive skin like Prime is cool. The way it's implemented now is done badly and yes it is a big deal for some. Especially when you would have to relevel the same frame if you've been playing default Excal to use your new golden Prime look. It is meant to be a bonus, yet it turns into the player having to make a compromise. That shouldn't be the case when you're spending money on something like that. You shouldn't have to dump your Excal and all the hours spent, it should be a skin.

STARSBarry Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) this topic has gone to an almost insane level of demand for something that is not really a mistake to start with.... if all I got is an excalibur skin then what would happen if I didnt pick excalibur at the start? id have to buy him with real money? screw that why should I buy a frame just to use the skin I get as a bonus with my real cash see the other side of the demand fence? This is the best compromise so no matter what suit someone picks at the start they also get the excalibur prime to use.... its just your misfortune that you picked excalibur again as your start suit..... and guess what so did I, but do you see me demanding the devs on the forum completely change the way they have employed there bonus? No this is due to me sitting back and thinking hmmmmm I wonder if the people who have leveled both excalibur and excalibur prime to increase there rank would be slightly &!$$ed off if we deleated one of them.... and you know what.... I bloody would so im sitting at the oposite side of the fence if you dont want to pay cause you cant be arsed to put in 4 days of effort to level to 30 so be it, but if they do I want a refund for losing my prime which I have taken to lvl 30 Edited January 11, 2013 by STARSBarry
KALUHS Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 prime excal shouldn't be a seperate frame from the original, it is a skin and should come with the original with an option to select what look you want. if there is anything different about it (stats wise) then there should be a modifier slot of somekind that goes on excal to make him prime seperate frames is just silly

You didn't read the entire thread them... Like League of Legends, when you buy a skin and you don't have the character to that skin, you get the character at the same time... You see, is just to put the right things, if you have excalibur warframe already, just the skin. If you don't have the skin you get both skin + Excalibur... It is simple -.- Edited January 11, 2013 by VelenoHargreaves
STARSBarry Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) but now hundred's of others have two excaliburs and our rank points for both attached to our account what If I want both of those... why dont we start making weapon skins for the lato and sword as well? why should I level up my pistol and sword twice? the same applys but what if I dont want to lose the possibly 9,000 bonus exp attached to these items Edited January 11, 2013 by STARSBarry
kraed Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 This would probably be a lot more work than the devs plan to do, but maybe there could be a seperate unique skin for each of the 3 starting warframes, rather than just excalibur? The founder package would unlock all 3 so you could reskin the one you choose to start with (or all 3 if you own all 3).

Jasonv2 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) The way this is implemented is bad, that's why this has to be changed sooner rather than later. I mean, yeah you're concerned with your total exp rank, but think about it, how cheap is it that they just add in doubles of what is already in game but yet treat it as if they are entirely new/different items? Is that what you want out of this game? To level the same sword 4 times over? You need variety, can't just add gold trim to everything and say hey, new item have fun leveling this again. That should be treated as a skin. As for you leveling stuff up now and crying about losing it? Well hey spending that much tiime on a game during a beta stage is never a wise idea. You should be well aware that things like this can happen. It's about getting in place certain ideas that will help the game grow. Adding more layers of repetition by forcing people to relevel skinned versions of frames/items is not one of the good ones. Edited January 11, 2013 by Jasonv2
CyborgCommando Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 i posted a topic on this subject in UI feedback nothing huge just feelings on the topic nothing huge just a few little ways to make the prime stand out more it's not a spam topic just a few ideas post if you like don't if you have anything good to add if you would please
VelenoHargreaves Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Let's face it, if the Double Excalibur Warframe stays, is like the fails of a game that is not well polished. Minor "bugs" or as I keep saying, redundancy, in the game, makes it look a little less attractive for other players... So I guess that should be something to put on the paper of "Let's change it?" what could go wrong if the excalibur prime would be a skin, and they add other Unique Skins for the Starters Warframes, as you see in the Thraillers, The Mag, the Loki, the Excalibur and Rhino? Or even, make a Unique version of all warframes (WITH TIME I SAY THAT ALREADY! Before the rages come at me. Not a full expansion at once, but some adds with time, to give them time to work on it)
Jasonv2 Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 After giving it more thought, I think I got carried away with it. I guess I understand now that those exclusive Founder's items are considered seperate just for the bonus of people supporting them with those Founder's packs. As I was learning about the game, I thought they were going to use the practice of skinning items and treating them as new. After talking with a few people that have been around the game longer and know the mindset of the devs much better. I can see that, those Prime items are treated in a special way just for the sole purpose of the early supporters to fund the game along. And that for the most part the devs aren't looking to just skin items/frames and treat them as new items to be leveled up. I'm fine with the Prime stuff as long as it doesn't go beyond that.
Guest Bhuta Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Glad i read this post i was considering upgrading my founder but i already started with excaliber because i didnt realise i couldnt just delete and try another frame and it said it was thebest for new starters,o well may as well just buy platinum instead of upgrading.Still think the game is great, just a shame i didnt realise earlier.
