Update 15: Art Of The Kill [Wishlist]

I love these ideas too. But I am not sure why these should apply only to one handed weapons, logically (I could sort of see the argument from a balance standpoint - to give some incentive to use a single version of an existing akimbo pistol - but then Brakk and Detron are two of the strongest pistols in game, and are both semi-automatic and not marelok). I mean, if you are left-handed hip shooting while you have your sword out, it would actually be easier to do if you had your pistol on your left-leg holster, so I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it with dual pistols equipped, i am afraid.

I have always thought that, logically, not only should single pistols have a much faster reload than their akimbo equivalents, but they should have much better accuracy and recoil (single pistols should enjoy an especially forgiving recoil toll when firing while zoom-aimed, because two-handed shooting). If you don't understand this, I encourage you to get yourself to a shooting range and see how well you shoot when dual wielding compared to one handed. Start with the latter style as you are likely to get kicked out/ laughed out when you get your akimbo cowboy on.

Brakk and Marelok are hand-cannons not pistols, and as such would not receive any of the one-handed enhancements. I thought it was semi-clear by mentioning them in the shotgun section but I guess not that obvious :D

I agree that dual pistols should always have aiming/recoil/reticule/zoom etc quirks/disadvantages, and those chances are mentioned in the Balance 2.0 - The Cost Of Power change which is a part of my theoretical U15. I do also think they should have consistent, clear advantages, such as larger mag size and RoF.

I understand the real-life logic in your concern about dual vs single pistols, but I will humbly submit to the remainder of the way WF handles dual weapons (eg, you need to add a 'link' or additional materials, the stats are sometimes different etc) to indicate that you can't simply pick one out of a pair up and use it. Dual weapons are somehow different than two individual weapons in WF. And balancing should reflect that.

I am soooo psyched for Archwing. So I cannot buy fully into your vision and can no longer, in conscience, support the mutinous notionphil takeover of DE.

HOWEVER,

I really like your vision here. Awesome ideas. Call it  update 16 instead, and I could share your beautiful dream.

I was thinking about calling it U16, but Focus, Mentoring and Proxy Wars are actually supposed to be a part of U15, so I figured I'd recount my version of how I'd do it!

That was a great read.  And everything except the weapon rebalancing would fit with what could be reworked into the client for an update release.

I really would enjoy the charged melee attacks, the stealth gameplay, the champions, and the MOD combining with the focus points.  Very well done!

Brakk and Marelok are hand-cannons not pistols [... etc. -SNIP-]

Thanks for the clarifications and the feedback. Sorry for making you repeat yourself re: some of the other one-handed vs. akimbo balancing issues mentioned in that Balancing 2.0 thread - which I had not fully read.

Your well considered and fully defensible position on akimbo guns notwithstanding, I would still want to be able to quick-shot with them too, and would prefer to see the sort of balancing considerations deal more with the myriad quirks and reticule/clip size/ recoils, etc. stuff you brought up.

Hope this thread keeps growing and that it catches the eye of some of the higher-ups at D.E.  Would be pretty cool if some of these ideas got discussed on tomorrow's live stream.

15.1 - Weapon Category Balance Adjustments

One-hand Light Pistols (all semi auto pistols besides marelok) - added versatility

  • You may perform melee combos with the quick attack button while wielding a one-handed light pistol.
  • You may hipfire one-handed light pistols while your melee weapon is equipped. Accuracy and fire rate are reduced by 50%

Machine Pistols/SMGs - added versatility and ammo

  • You may perform melee combos with the quick attack button while wielding a one-handed machine pistol.
  • You may hipfire single-handed machine pistols while your melee weapon is equipped. Accuracy is reduced by 50% and reload is doubled.
  • Max ammo capacities of dual wield Machine Pistols are doubled versus one handed.

What if we did this basic concept for Daggers too? Players could perform melee combos with the quick attack button if they were using Daggers.

And are you planning on doing more additions to this post, like 15.2 for Warframe balance and 15.3 for animations?

That sensei system is the silliest corniest thing I've ever read.

It's also the most brilliant thing I've ever seen suggested. Like holy crap. I love you. I can see it now, new long sensei beard attachements for the tenno to make them look like aging kungfu masters. (yes even the female tenno get the beards).

Yes, I'll be adding 15.2 next week probably. I want to do melee weapon class balance (heavy/swords/light etc) next most likely.

This is so great I wish it were real.

I'd be an evil sensei and would actually spend 200 plat to change my name to Orochimaru .3.

Because I want to raise evil Tenno. :D

A lot of interesting feedback on the Sensei system. I'd personally love to have a school of little newbies to take on missions and educate about life, armor scaling, endless modes and nanospores.

And pink shorts for the most respected Senseis out there ;)

15.1 - Weapon Category Balance Adjustments

  • Snipers - added reliable damage and skill based utility
  • All snipers automatically crit when hitting a weakspot. (it's up to you if you still want to add crit chance mods for body crits!)
  • All snipers now have at least 1m punch through
  • Sniper scopes are equipped with IR sensors, allowing faint outlines to be detected through objects
  • Killing an enemy with a one-hit weakspot shot causes a gory death, causing a 1.5 second "frozen in terror" stun in all enemies within 3m who saw the death and are showered with the brain matter of their ally. Enemies can only be frozen in terror once every 10 seconds.

All but the 'frozen in terror' bit I can see just from REAL LIFE sniper weapons.

As for 'frozen in terror'-

Bosses would be immune.

Would Grineer freeze? They are nasty brutal clones whose lives are meaningless. I don't know. Maybe. But not the MOST fanatical of them. Heavy enemies would probably not even notice. (Gunners, Bombards, Napalms... etc)

Corpus crewmen would freeze. MOAs and Ospreys probably not.

Infested would likely be immune.

As for the other weapon ideas? I am a sniper in games, not a melee or shotgun specialist.

But GOOD ideas.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is pretty much everything Warframe vitally needs, and some things that improve the quality of it - told in a way that's interesting and concise. Take my upvote - may this thread be immortal and given unto DE.

Best thread in all of General Feedback, in my opinion.
