I've developed a bad habit after 15 levels of mastery.

Whenever I'm hunting down Orokin Cells or Neural Sensors and im farming Ruk/Lephantis/Alad V over and over again, I find its faster if I just abandon the mission if they don't drop what I'm looking for, than to trudge my way through to extraction.

Ive done this in my 'Invite Only' games, as well as online games after I do my part in killing the boss (never the Void though, thats just useless. And I got to wondering if anyone else dips out if they didnt get their Resource/Stance/Rare Mod from whatever they where farming at the time.

Is what i'm doing more efficient? Or is it just childish?

At any rate, its not like we are penalized at all for quitting missions.

I usually farm those boss nodes as well, but I usually don't end up abandoning them. I usually equip a loot detector and master thief and hunt down all crates. I usually end up getting 2 or more orikon cells on Ruk, and sometimes end up with 6+ Neural sensors on Alad V's node (insane drop rate from those lockers sometimes)

Ah, perhaps ive been going about it wrong.

do you have Scavenger on a Kubrow as well? ive never thought of playing the Master Loot angle before.

Its always been either bosses or nothing, as they are the closest thing to a 'guaranteed'-ish drop

I never thought about scavenger, and been using loot mods before kubrows were introduced as well.

If you use those mods and go through all the loot rooms, it's usually a guaranteeed rare resource drop as long as you have master thief as well

I sometimes do this too, when I'm not feeling like combat and rather feeling like exploring. Only for Alad V, however. Corpus lockers spawn more plentifully, contain more credits, and usually are more Kubrow/Scavenge friendly (but still, that mod is unreliable as hell and not worth wasting time trying to get your space dog to realize there are a dozen lockers right in front of his face... Master Thief Master Race). For Orokin Cells (I have about 70 in my inventory and I've built all but one of the Prime weapons) do Kiste, Ceres with a Nekros or Lephantis. Sargas Ruk gets a notable mention, here, but he's incredibly boring to speedrun. Trust me, I've done it more than 300 times. Never. Again. And comparatively, you'll get more O Cells in less time from the other two methods I mentioned. With a good team, Kiste, Ceres is your best bet. Average of 2-3 cells if you desecrate everything, but I've seen as many as 6. For what, a 10-12 minute run? Can you say Jackpot?

Regarding OP's topic, no, I never quit. It only takes 1-2 minutes to get to extraction, and on a boss run, that's an additional 3-5k credits (reward + sell blueprint). That adds up quickly. I'm MR 16 and still can't get enough credits (mindlessly doing 5 wave DSD or 5 min DSS with low/no tax is boring as hell). Credits are helpful for 2 reasons: Transmutation and Fusion. Them R10 mods cost a fortune in cores AND credits. And even when I finish them all, I'm going to keep doing others and sell them for plat to buy the cosmetic items in game.
