Seeing A Lot Of Thead Censorship, Whats Up With That?

If the posts aren't in keeping with the Code of Conduct then they're liable to get removed. The majority of posts that get removed tend to be nonconstructive, spam-like or don't add anything to a conversation (such as image/meme spam).

If you have any questions about certain threads or posts in particular, I'd be happy to answer them.

those infractions are very open ended and you could pretty much say anyone even barely off-beat with game talk could be in violation.

i think we need rules 3.0 in the next update which clarifies what parts of free speech we do and dont have.

Also some of them might've meen merged. I've seen a lot of ragethreads like "DE u cenzoring my posts cuz im talkin the truth so P2W omg im leavng!!!!" while by browsing this user's content you could easily find his "deleted" topic as a post in one of the megathreads.

Art goes in Fan Art, Fanfiction and Fan theories and things along those lines go in Fan Zone.

Uh...well when I post a song on here...since music is art too, would that mean that I should post there instead? cause the last one or maybe even the last two ended up in the fan zone section <w>

hey now, dont get off topic, you're likely to get your posts deleted!

i think art is strictly image art over there.

Technically there is no free speech here; this is a privately owned message board, the rules are managed by DE and enforced by forum staff and volunteer community moderators (like myself). As long as the code of conduct is observed, speech won't get moderated.

And the code of conduct and forum guidelines are fairly straightforward I think. Typically we don't crack down on "barely off-beat" posts unless they're completely empty of any sort of content (i.e. a post containing just "lol", "git gud", "no" or a meme response/spam) or if someone is repeatedly posting off-topic/derailing posts (at which point it isn't really "barely off-beat" anymore).

I saw that, and it was in Off Topic, not sure why it was deleted, i even asked the op pics, i hope he'll pm me :^)

Just because it's off topic doesn't mean it's a dumping ground for trashy/spammy posts. Think of Off-Topic as General Discussion, except for posts not really relating to Warframe.

This is more or less correct; Fan Art is typically for illustrations/image art. Fan Zone is usually where player-made music, videos, contests, livestream channels, etc go.

purpose of thread confirmed. DE is a Canadian communist group seeking to reinforce thought and speech supressing values via a game whose playable character cannot speak and is told what to do by a figurehead overlord with little thought as to why the character does what the figure says.

/thread?

I'd say it's fairly lenient here all around. Most times it's just a matter of people not understanding thread merges or thread moves to proper forum sections.

no, i get those, i mean straight up deletion. (notification of movement would be cool though, mods could you please message the OP letting them know that thread is moved/merged in the future instead of just posting in the thread. that'd be super spiffy of y'all!)

Don't look to much into it lol.

It's really not to hard to understand. Nothing is black-and-white; it's a case by case basis really.

A very simplified way to put this; if you think it infringes any of the guidelines or in general think it might not belong in this particular section of the forums, chances are, it will be deleted.

Hope that clears it up a tiny bit!

/thread?

[tinfoil hatting intensifies?]

I'm still genuinely wondering which threads you're referring to when you're talking about seeing a lot of thread censorship. Are you referring to posts? Or entire threads? Because it's not very often that we remove entire threads (exceptions for "Im Hawt" threads or trading threads which are requested by the thread makers to be removed). More often than not they get merged into already existing threads.

again, i understand mergers, and i havent seen many whole threads removed, but i am seeing large portions of threads chopped off. instead of wiping the page, why not just say "get on topic or i lock it"? (rhymes even!)

i dont mean any threads specifically, just generally.

i remember that back in January it was a pretty free place around here. (yes more mods have been promoted since then)

and even after that the only real mod motion was when you and tzuchulaflagawaga pulled out the forklifts.

Aha. We usually refer to those as "cleans." Basically if there's a particularly derailing or off-topic post we'll remove it. But then we have to remove posts or portions of posts quoting it, then we have to remove posts and portions of posts quoting the post or portion of post that's quoting the offending post, so on and so on. After that point we may or may not say "Thread cleaned, please try to remain on topic."

It's a bit of an annoying chore on our end with particularly long threads, but it's sort of like cutting out cancer before it can continue growing. In some cases a stern "Stay on topic" might stop it, but other times (for particularly offensive/rule breaking posts) a more 'invasive' approach is required.

In the worst case scenario, if the thread cannot be salvaged (derailing/off-topic posting continues even after a thread cleaning/verbal warning on the thread) we usually wind up locking said thread.

Some people seem to be under the misguided impression that freedom of speech exists on a forum.

It doesn't.

Forums are subject to rules regarding what you can and can't say.

If a moderator thinks a post/thread goes against that forums code of conduct then away that post/thread goes. If people followed a forums (not just this, but nearly all forums) rules and guidelines then there wouldn't be "censorship".
