Someone Remind Me Why Boltor P Is Better Than Latron P Again?

Question

These are the two builds that I'm using (well my mods aren't maxed)

Boltor P:

http://warframe-builder.com/Primary_Weapons/Builder/Boltor_prime/t_30_23042223_131-3-5-132-5-5-133-2-5-134-6-5-137-4-10-138-7-5-141-1-5-150-0-10_150-8-141-6-133-11-131-5-137-7-132-8-134-6-138-6/en/2-0-44/

Latron P

:

http://warframe-builder.com/Primary_Weapons/Builder/Latron_prime/t_30_23002222_132-7-5-134-6-5-137-0-10-138-2-5-140-4-5-141-1-5-150-5-10-159-3-5_137-7-141-6-138-11-159-9-140-5-150-8-134-6-132-8/en/2-0-15/

What I've discovered after using both weapons in T3 survival:

1. Boltor P runs out of ammo after about 35min when the heavies start to take half a clip to kill but Latron P never runs out of ammo.

2. My accuracy with Latron P is at 60-70% but Boltor P only floats around 40%.

3. The only time when Boltor P outshines Latron P is when enemies are weak and it only takes about 1-2 bullet to kill. In that case Boltor P can last a long time without reloading. But that is irrelevant since when enemies get harder this advantage is non-existent.

4. Latron P is much better at taking out flying drones due to its bullet being hit-scan, which makes killing the rest of the stuff on the ground much easier.

5. Boltor's sustained dps is irrelevant because you'll run out of ammo anyway when you really have to use that sustained dps. Burst wise the two weapons are about the same.

6. Latron P is much better than Boltor P for boss fights due to its ammo efficiency. (Corrupted Vor, DDA)

Everyone says Boltor P is miles ahead of Latron P but I just can't think of a scenario when Boltor P is better. I don't mind using a semi-auto rifle so does that mean there's no reason for me to use a Boltor P over Latron P?

Latron Prime is better. Ignore those who say otherwise.

I'm not talking just about raw damage output. DPS is important, but what's even more important is what we know as combat efficiency. Like you said, Latron Prime is hitscan, while Boltor Prime uses projectiles which has travel time. Latron Prime is already more combat efficient than the Boltor Prime in terms of precision combat efficiency. Less misses = less wasted bullets = more ammo efficient.

Moreover, Latron Prime has a higher status chance. In higher levels when both weapons begin to fall off in damage, Latron Prime still packs the utility from the various procs that it causes, which are far more frequent than the Boltor Prime.

DPS simply see raw damage numbers. What they miss out is that critical hits to the head deal 4x damage. Add in Vital Sense and the fact that elemental damage scales with critical multipliers, and you see that the Boltor Prime simply loses out to Latron Prime's superior crit statistics. Yes, Boltor Prime can be spammed, and has higher raw damage, but how far can spamming and raw damage take you into endgame?

In my honest opinion I find each to their own.

Most weapons in this game were created for a specific playstyle and I hope these super weapons end in a way. I've used Latron Prime for a long-long time. Infact it was probably one of my first primaries I have ever built and used since then. My playstyle matches well with Latron, other people like Boltor.

It is because you need to be able to aim in order to kill things with the Latron.

Using the boltor means that you can click in the general direction of an enemy and you will kill it, and everything around it.

The High Lord Latron Prime is by far the better weapon.

It's paper dps is lower, but the difference is that it can apply its damage far better.

I can single handedly kill Void Vor in a minute with a Boltor Prime. It can shave much more HP faster than a Latron can if you use the right mods. My accuracy with that rifle can range from 70 to 130% when using Split Chamber. Shred is near useless on Boltors as they have innate punch through, and a good one at that.

The only thing going for the Latron is its excellent ammo efficiency.

What I do with the Boltor, I can't with a Latron.

Know why? Because its personal preference. There is no better rifle. The Latron ain't better than the Boltor, and the Boltor ain't better than the Latron.

The Boltor fits better to me, but the Latron fits better to you.

You cannot say that one is better than the other as if it were a fact.

(I will however mention that I also use a crit based Latron Wraith often)

It is because the Boltor has a lower skill requirement simple as. It is the same reason Rhino is so popular, it takes a lot less skill to use him and he is still a good frame but the great frames are ones that are a lot harder to use.

Constant Headshot farming or...... Spray and Pray with weapon that causes CC and great damage. Not really a contest (And yes the dead bodies that the Boltor throws can cause extra damage to enemies behind said dead body)

Add punch through and then those head shots are killing several enemies long pas the point were the Boltor is efficient.

Unless you're talking about something like the dex furis, where emptying a clip can deplete 1/3 of your ammo supply, you shouldn't worry about ammo that much.  Just take along some medium team ammo restores.  Dropping two at once will refill you very quickly.

Next time one of those 150k+ credit alerts pops up, buy the 10x ammo restore blueprint.  You'll thank me later :p

Yep. Latron Prime is better if you suck with slow projectiles and have no trigger discipline. :P

I kid, I kid.

No, really. This thread is very encouraging to see. I don't agree at all, but it's coming down to playstyle and that's a progressive thought for these boards.

You forgot about Boltor's innate Punch Through, either way convenience beats DPS in this match. Latron has too many drawbacks and not enough positives for it to be compared.

Also if you're running out of ammo on the Boltor Prime before 35 mins you're really not using it right.

On this I disagree, sure it is harder to use a Latron compared to a Boltor but it is a more efficient weapon that has higher damage. Both weapons have their merits but when it comes down to the long game (20+ minutes/waves) that is were the Latron pulls ahead.

Isn't that backwards though? If Latron Prime is only able to be compared because people can't hit with slow projectiles or can't stop from overkilling targets, doesn't that mean Boltor Prime would be "better" in the hands of someone who could use both perfectly?

I think you have misread my post.

I am saying the Boltor is easier to and be effective with than the Latron is. But the Latron is better in terms of efficiency and damage in the right hands.

I'm not a great shooter player.

Don't have the twitch-skill to aim at small targets while I'm rollflipdiving.

The Boltor's a lot less demanding to use.

I much prefer the Latron's hitscan nature, as well as 'overkilling' high level targets with the Boltor due to flight time, but what you gonna do.

That said, I almost invariably use my Amprex. :p

This has been discussed before many times. It was discussed when people had been calling for a latron p nerf. Boltor has such high DPS because you can stack every DMG mod with little to no side effects so it's just a rainbow + corrupted then spray and pray. It's got higher DPS that's why they say it's better but they have different play styles and uses which is why this thread being made again is stupid.

TL;DR people look at Boltor Ps #s and say its better because "I NEEED DEEPEE!" and dont consider playstyle or anything else.

I don't remember the Boltor having innate punch through, though that might just be the fact that I got it to 30 and shelved it.

I will grant you that the boltor does have better killspeed at lower levels where you can spray down a crowd with half a clip.

Though at that point an explosive Glaive works just as well.

The Latron Prime truly excells at popping heads at mid range. Nothing in the game likes taking consecutive hits from it.

The high status chance also means that the weapon can easily shred armour, shields or health depending on the build.

It depends on the situation. If there are loads of enemies, auto weapons or shotguns are my preferred strategy.

If it is a boss or a few tough enemies, bows and high damage snipers/semi rifles are preferred.

The reason the Boltor P is thought highly of (while Latron P gets a bad rep) is because most PvE engagements follow the former situation. If enemies had more variety, then minds would change.

I'd like to suggest Halo PvE combat.
