Death Mark Questions....

Question

So I am confused about death marks:

The G3 recently showed up during a defense mission that I was doing. [-EDIT- Note that the G3 were coming for me - I was the intended target]. They killed the guy I was with but they never hurt me. Nevertheless, while I was fighting them, mobs over ran the Pod and the mission therefore failed.

Did I therefore lose my mark?

I have heard conflicting stories: some tell me that you only lose your deathmark once you either kill or are killed by the author of the death mark (Zanuka, or Stalker or G3). But other people have told me that if you ever fail a mission in which you are marked, you lose it also. And once, one of the G3 spawned outside a map and so I was unable to finish them off and people told me I lost the mark then (I grinded the necessary invasion to be sure I was marked again).

So which is it? Do you lose the death mark only if you kill or are killed?

Do you basicallly lose it whenever Zanuka/G3/Stalker spawns, regardless of what happens?

A little clarity on this front would be much appreciated (note that this question is not currently clarified in the Warframe Wiki entry on death marks - hence my request for clarity here).

No, you NEVER lose a mark. Once you are marked, that's it, it's never gone.

So many people think you do lose it, but you never EVER do. When an assassin mob attacks YOU, YOUR mark will NOT! REPEAT NOT! be lost.

Then tell me why you get the message again ONLY after being attacked hmm?

I truly think you lose the mark when you get killed/you kill them, though it might stack(Sadly not increasing spawn chances even if they stack)

You don't get it ONLY after being attacked. I personally have only been attacked by the harvester twice, and have gotten a dozen messages from Alad V. Similarly with Stalker and with G3.

AND With the G3, I got attacked after my first mark, then was attacked twice more before even getting another message, so no, you don't lose your mark, and no, they don't stack.

You lose the death mark if they spawn in coming after YOU as the target. The others keep their marks. The person they spawn for loses their mark in simple terms.

Yeah and sorry, I should have specified that I was the intended target. Will edit orignal message. But as you can see from the responses, there is a good deal of confusion and diversity of opinion regarding death marks and how they work.

Thanks for the help.

But to clarify, Hydroking77, you are saying that death mark elapses at the point that they spawn for you (assuming you are the intended target and get all the chat warning of their arrival, etc), win, lose or draw? Is that right? And what if, for example, your mission ends during the period between when they warn that they are on their way (lights flicker, etc) and when they actually spawn? Do you still retain your mark in that case?

Again, whatever is the demonstrable truth on these matters would be useful to have up on the wiki page.

We got different experiences then.

I only get the message after losing a mark, have run like 80 anti-grineer runs in the past 4 days and haven't gotten a message yet(I got it like 1 week ago)

I have never been attacked when I was not marked(Though their spawn chances are terribly low with RNG + Bad Luck for me) except by Stalker, but I believe there was a known issue with his death marks stacking ever since I joined this game a year ago.

But I guess we just got different experiences then.

-Snip-

I know it is removed after you are killed my him when you are the intended target. I have been targeted by him maybe 10 times in the time playing since March, and I, from experience, bevieve you are only targeted once per mark and all marks are then removed for the Stalker. Edited by Hydroking77
