WARGAMES Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 The ankyros I've noticed could be fun to toy with, but from what I have seen it is entirely for-fun based. http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Ankyros It seems the weapons this time around were both rather weak, and the ankyros can't really fufill a job that the furax can. This will probably turn into the whole everything versus dual heat swords argument in terms of usage. But I wanted to see if ti was viable, and so far I'm not seeing it has much it can hold over anything. I hope DE actually puts in more weapon styles, that actually do more in a variety of usage instead of the usual charge attack everyone goes for(not an exception either). Melee combat styles: Normal attacks: the most common and usually does not fulfill a role later on past x waves of defense due to armor but usually incurs stagger or lots of critical rate and critical damage hits to amplify elemental modules. Charge attacks: the holier than though to everything due to repeat charge damage on single targets or more that tends to decide the place of most weapons due to how many think of it's uses. Slide attacks: often used to quickly kill weaker enemies as well as retains a speed thrill for some people. Jump attack: commonly has a knockdown, or in the case of a few, an elemental bonus. Down attack: execution of an enemy that deals a decent amount of damage, but I find it does't do much for what one would think. This is one I would think would deal more damage or have more effects due to the fact it's a knockdown execution. Wall-walk attack: one of the harder ones I've seen, I would think you'd have some handsome rewards for performing such on enemies in terms of damage and effect to make the trick valuable for finding out other than being another fancy slide attack.. This could change if DE worked on combat styles of other parts of melee dealing more or having their own stronger effects, such as: multiple enemies can be hit, armor piercing, elemental damage bonus, knockdown, stagger, a direct line puncture THROUGH an enemy if a fist, bonus damage for doing a wall-walk dive attack to x or y, more direct damage for any of the aforementioned. I would REALLY like to see weapons have more variable use and some have specific attacks deal more instead of just charge attacks versus normal attacks with stagger and knockdown as a utility. This way when new weapons come out you really have to ask yourself: What did DE hide in this weapon to make it fun and useful?. Also I would like to add again among the effects, perhaps DE could create a puncture effect that goes several meters in the direction of the attack for punch style weapons. This would add another possibility for people to watch for when they try a new weapon as well as add diversity away from "hits multiple enemies". I am no wikia contributor, but sometimes I find this forum seems stagnant and dead of info and discussions about what could help the weapons all in all, or enhance many aspects of the game for that matter that we enjoy. Of the melee weapons I use, the scindo was my first and always useful. The furax is a boss killer and overshadows the ankyros for now. The Dual heat swords appear to be one of the better charge attack spam ability weapons that most gravitate to as per how easily many use it. The ether daggers I had hoped for more but I'll probably replace them with Dual ether swords. The fang I once used due to it's silliness, but I ended up selling it in favor of ether daggers and dual zoren. The dual zoren I've found to be one of my favorites away from the scindo, due to their speed and a fun factor they present to me. The darksword seems underwhelming due to the dual heat swords, but it was my favorite sword so I will keep it for a day that DE may re-visit swords to bring them into the one on one superiority or an effect versus specific enemies that it is wildly effective against. I hope people look past the usual combat that is over-used due to "it just works" and give ideas what could enhance many weapons and styles further to leave a curiosity to try things away from charge damage. I will keep the ankyros for now, but if I find a weapon I really want, I will replace what I had the least enjoyment/usage from.
Shaftronics Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Its sliding uppercut ignores armor, if its worth mentioning.
keen Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 The furax recently got a speed boost, which puts it at the sweet spot for damage AND charge damage, making them overall the best option for fists, hands down. I would say make them mutually exclusive: either the power gauntlets are slow but powerful (charge-based) or fast but ignore armor (worthwhile)
Ced23Ric Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 If you think the Grakata is weak, you must have gotten a broken one. Maybe craft another?
Silenterr Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 it needs to ignore armour badly and maybe deal bonus damage to armoured units seeing how it a blunt weapon
katari Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I would say these guys need to be much quicker. I bought them and they are incredibly underwhelming, weaker than all the other melee weapons i currently own so the vast majority.
-CM-Zura Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) i made those ankyros too and it lacks sometime like knockdown ? Furax can knockdown those Scumbags why not ankyros? Edited April 21, 2013 by Asuraknight
GrayDeath666 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 The only thing I think might make them workable is the high crit chance. Still leveling them to try it with Fury, Sundering strike, and Organ Shatter.
Davoodoo Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I would choose ceramic dagger(or any other) over these on grinner and corpus and drop it for ankyros on infested. On the other hand though furax is great against all 3 factions and imo better than both of these overall.
Yesodjun Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Needs combo attacks like fangs/ether daggers or more passive atributes. That should fix this gauntlets, for now just cosmetics
