As much as I like the aesthetics of the Gorgon, I had that constant feeling that it was a little too specialized. A heavy assault weapon, perfect for a heavy gunner, but somewhat of a white raven in the standard squad configuration.

 

So, I present to you:

Gorgon's little sister, a squad automatic weapon for Lancer use.

The Gorgon Lando.

Slightly lighter, the Lando have negated the rotating barrels in favour of a slightly increased calibre; boasting lesser RoF, but higher damage per round, the Lando is used as a support weapon in most combat scenarios.

 

A Gun Lancer, the marine assigned to carry the Lando, is normally ordered to position himself behind the line of combat, providing fire support for the rest of the squad. The average Lancer carries an additional ammo box for the Gun Lancer; rarely, Gun Lancers can be formed into linear fire teams (typically three to five marines) to provide heavy suppressive fire on critical targets.

 

I'm not really sure it should be available for the Tenno; as a Gorgon skin at most.

I'm not really sure. Commanders, as I understand it, negate a lot of equipment slots and ammo space for additional shielding/protection and special equipment - sensors, teleporters, radio (or something) equipment and so on; I'd say it'd be cooler for them to be lightly armed, but relying on the switch-teleport to change places with other grineers in case of danger.

Why do heavy melee weapons get optional skins, but light melee weapons have new patterns? I'm glad they added a new gun in the patch, seems like there's usually some light melee weapon (or pair) added every time there's a new weapon. Though I haven't been playing too long. Your rifle sounds like something that I would like to have and I appreciate that you described how the Grineer marines would deploy the weapon system.

Also, gameplay-wise, I'd say a Gun Lancer is basically the bastard child of Ballistas and Heavy Gunners. Sharing a similar weapon with the latter, the Gun Lancer mostly behaves like a Ballista and goes as far as actually trying to escape from the Tenno if they get too close. As opposed to the Ballistas, however, a Gun Lancer mostly forces the Tenno into cover instead of dealing direct damage. He tries to crouch when firing (to imitate the high recoil); the model is based on the basic Lancer, but with a custom mask and more pronounced ammo pouches on the armour. Not very hard to make and certainly adds variety and depth to the standard shootout.

I certainly wouldn't mind having a Gorgon variant (whether it's a skin or a whole new weapon) that removed the spinup mechanic for a more standard/light-machinegun feel. Make the gunners spawn about half as often as shotgun troopers, and they'd make a nice support unit for the mobs.

While I certainly like the design Im not sure about removing the Gorgon´s spin-up mechanic as thats pretty much the only thing making it unique.

If anything I would opt for a heavier variant that removes zoom and adds a permanent spin-up buttin instead.

But since that isnt the point of the topic...eh yeah again,losing the spin-up would kinda hurt the feeling of the weapon(as much as it might annoy people,it does make the weapon special).

Hell then its certainly a need idea.

I've gotta say this idea is amazing. It would help make Grineer harder without adding irritation like more rollers, and if you code the AI such that they use grenades to flush you out of cover so the gunner can pour fire on you, it'd be great.

Actually, I also propose it as a Gorgon skin. While I love the Gorgon, I feel like the game still misses a more standard LMG-ish machine gun. Unique isn't always a must-have, and having something basic, but well-done, is also very nifty, in my opinion.
