'secondary Objectives' Suck

You know what's really, really aggravating?

I just spent fifteen minutes running through this level, fighting nigh-endless waves of enemy MOA's and ridiculous shield-laser doors that flick on and off seemingly at random because cameras spot me from the other side of a 100 metre square room.

I get to the raid objective, I pick it up.

And this *@##$, comes over the com system like 'oh, there's data hidden around the ship, go pick it all up.'

So I now have to run through the level AGAIN, only this time, picking up all the data from the consoles on the way, fighting enemies with my secondary weapon, and for what?

We get no bonus. We get nothing for it. Except run around this level AGAIN.

Personally, whenever I get a 'go pick up all this data' mission, I quit the level (when I'm solo'ing, at least). They are that tedious to me.

I love how the secondary objectives spice things up, and mix things up. But when we get this secondary objective, we get nothing for it. If we're not getting any bonus credits at the end of the mission, we should be able to tell Lotus or whatever her name is to kindly stfu and leave us alone. We're going to extraction.

Please give us a bonus for 'secondary' objectives or let us choose whether or not we do them. Both of these would be the ideal outcome. 'Hey, do this for me, and you'll get extra credits! :D ' Y/N?

One caveat: the 'KILL EVERYTHING! :D' secondary mission is exempt from this rant, as, in general, it makes the mission easier. I love hearing that 'forget your current objective, leave nothing alive' notification. I drop my data pack, drop my prisoner, and go a-hunting, and it's a great f-ing day now! :D

P.S. when you're soloing, we shouldn't have to do a data run, followed by a deposit data spike secondary objective. Hello, I'm one person, I can't carry both data packets at once!

So, I always thought that additional objective gave me additional rewards, so I loved it when that happened.

>.>

<.<

But yeah, I have the same feeling when the mission turns to exterminate. Oh how the tables turn when that happens.

I would go one step further to spicy things up even more.

yeah, give us a reward for doing side things and extra missions. Don't simply flip on us... that's not fun. SImple as that.

Now... give me conditions to these side-goals and attach EVEN MORE rewards to that... for instance, Kill X number of targets in Y amount of time. Or get to the spot on the map in Z seconds... that sort of stuff (stuff that makes sense...).

So, if i get a secondary objective, i could get a common Mod, but if i do it with the conditions met, that Mod turns to a uncommon one.

That would be cool and challenging. Like a sudden surprise to rock things a bit.

The truth, the whole truth and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.

To add onto that, try going to the deposit objective, only to realise that you've brought the WRONG parcel...

I rage-quit when I realised that there were two packages and I didn't know which was which any more.

Agreed. Would be nice if it was optional and completion gave some kind of bonus.
Lotus: "Tenno, another opportunity has shown itself. You can finish your main objective, or rescue a captured operative for a further reward."
Then maybe the group could vote like in defense missions?

Also definitely differentiate the datamass objects.

Some good points are being made in this thread. A shame very few will read it. Why? Maybe choose a more constructive, less offensive topic name next time...

Devs are working their assess off, bugs get fixed and all you can do is whine and insult them? Not very constructive, even if the points you make are valid...

True. instead of saying something s?x or something is cr@p, could have used "Secondary Objectives can be (needs to be) improved". And rather than just stating the problem, provide suggestions on possible solutions as well. There could be very little changes in actual content, but slight shift in perception could greatly influence the mood of the readers and thus the motivations as well.

Some mission types should only have a very limited pool of 'secondary' mission possibilities.

For instance, IMO, Rescue types should only have 'Extermination' as a possible secondary, especially if you are by yourself.  I loath escort missions with a passion (comes from other MMOs where the NPC AI is horrible:  squishy NPC rushing into packs of enemies and what not), especially now that the prisoner can be killed and thus fail the mission  (I refuse to do them unless I have friends along: even then, I don't like doing them.  You better believe it when the 'prisoner located when you haven't opened any doors' bug happens I take advantage of that and leave that guy/girl there).  I didn't mind it 'as' much when the prisoner wasn't killable (seriously, why can't we 'zap them into the Grid' like we do with the guy in capture missions?)

Making secondary objectives completely optional would work too.
