How Do Abilities Rank Up?

So I heard originally that they would rank up the more you used them. However, when im looking at the abilities screen, it says one of my abilities ranks up once my warframe hits rank 12. Did they scrap that whole idea that they would rank up with use and rank up with your warframe instead?

Yes they did scrap the idea. The rank listed next to the description is the rank you need to reach to unlock the ability or the next level.

you unlock abilities as you level the frame up, and the abilities level as you use them.

That was the idea, at least. I haven't confirmed it myself, so I can't say if it truly works like that.

 

I do know the unlocking works like that for archwing.

 

 

and if you check the (!) at the bottom of the abilities window, you can see how it works: unlocking and ranking up goes by WF / AW level, not usage.

They're all preset to level at a certain Warframe level. Just get your Warframe level up and you're good to go.
