Disappearing Player Tell-Tales

I've noticed 2 occasions since U7.8 that player telltales are disappearing off the map.  On one occasion, while we were waiting at the end of the level, another player was standing right in front of me, and I could see the blueish image of a third player approaching, and neither one had a visible tell-tale on my map.
