Gryphticon
So I bet that many of you wanted to get out of this aquarium we call Earth, to be able to explore the stars of the Universe. pretty much everyone thought it was impossible, the same as when most people thought smartphones would be impossible in the past. Scientists predict that our extinction is nearing (most likely in 5000 years) but if NASA succeeds, human race will be saved and could be the dominant species of the Universe. What do you think about that? Edited November 1, 2014 by Gryphticon

Gryphticon
Ok you lost me there. Eh maybe my source was false but apparently, there are chances a asteroid hits Earth in 5000 years or so.

I'm sure that since we came from bows and arrows to nuclear bombs in more or less 2500 years we would have enough technology to take care of a potential asteroid threat in 5000 years... There is an incredibly small chance that a massive asteroid named 99942 Apophis will slap the Earth in 2036, or 2068. This could grow or shrink with time, but it's not really 5k years. Lol that how you think we'll die, and 5000 years lol the thing know as the human race will probably be long gone in maybe 1000 year maybe sooner. Looks like someone loss faith in humanity :/ We are the ultimate life form on this planet, you can't deny it. Our progress and reason leaves god in the dust (if he even exists). Please do not be so butthurt against humanity cause you're a human too :c Whatever happens humans evolve, not their bodies but their minds, that is what makes humans special among other life forms. vaugahn
Anyways, the point is that we could all go extinct soon. There have been dozens of near misses with asteroids in the last hundred years. Saying we could all go extinct soon is like saying you could get hit by a car soon. I mean, yeah, it's possible, but I don't base my every daily action on the presumption I will soon be hit by a car. Edit: I've got my money on nuclear war for the end of human life. We have ways to deflect asteroids. Edited November 1, 2014 by vaugahn

Either ways, if we don't establish humans on other Earth-like planets, there's will always be a risk that humans go extinct. That's why i'm so hyped about FTL space travel. TheErebus.
My view on our extinction: Nuclear war. An epidemic of some kind of virus (inb4 ebola). In any case, in 5000 years I'll be nothing but particles.

That's why i'm so hyped about FTL space travel. Even if we do there will still be a chance of us going extinct. Is it likely? No. Is there a chance? Yes. Like I said, I've got my money on nuclear war. Nobody kills humans quite like other humans.
Gryphticon
*facepalm* You guys sure don't have much faith in humanity or is it me that is having too much faith in humanity? Still, I'm really hyped for this FTL Warp Drive.

The bacteria has a hard time spreading because it kills it victims so fast. direct contact is required for it to spread, and its a 50% mortality rate. Pardon me hurting your eye's with my grammar. Still, I'm really hyped for this FTL Warp Drive. At the rate of humanity's grows, were bound to a huge dieing off period for many reason such as limited resources. I've heard that the earth can only support 10 billion humans. Again pardon my grammar, its not my strongest subject. Shady_Steve
Eventually overpopulation, our own disinterest in global change or war (maybe because of overpopulation) will bring our time here to an end. Earth has been good to us and all but in order to survive we need somewhere else to be. Edited November 2, 2014 by Shady_Steve
