xXxDavidCameronxXx
Firstly, is there actually a guaranteed day that reactor/catalyst alerts appear, because according to the wiki it's every other Friday but the alert twitter doesn't match up with that. Secondly, I think the developers should make a new way to make Orokin Catalysts obtainable, and I'm not suggesting they make them more frequent, but I really like how in the earlier bosses, you are guaranteed a blueprint but the frame takes a while to craft. Sure it's a bit 'Clash of Clans' which I never really like, but the rest of the game is enough to keep you occupied. So I think that it would be better if Catalysts either dropped from a very high tier/time of a high tier mission (40 waves is my suggestion); it could also just drop as a normal reward, but be about 3-5 times rarer than a Forma, that way you can't make a constant stream of them like you can with Forma. The second part of my suggestion is that the build time could be a week, this way the value of the item isn't deflated. I understand why they are such a hassle to get, they are supposed to be the money maker market item, the one that everyone buys. But personally I can not bring myself to purchase an item that provides no variety, no extra game-play, just a power boost. In Warframe the incentive for me to keep playing is to become stronger - if I just bought everything the missions alone aren't enough to keep my interest for a long time. So I'd at least like to be able to grind to get a reactor blueprint than to wait for the CHANCE to get one like some crappy mobile game.

Imaru
Potatoes, as they are called by the community, do normally show up every other week following Devstreams. Those are 24 hour alerts. There wasn't one last weekend because they (DE) chose to have the Halloween alert that weekend instead. There is no day that there is always going to be a potato alert. SmokinDevil
Or you could just buy one, like it was some crappy mobile game. Those make a S#&$ ton of money.
(PSN)thefndodge
There is no guaranteed day that they appear, but they do occur 'roughly' every other Friday when there is a Devstream. These alerts are 24 hours. So just keep watch for when the next devstream occurs, which is usually every other Friday. Expect the next one to probably be next week, November 14 since there was one last week. Other than that, check invasion rewards because every now and then the Grineer or Corpus will provide catalyst or reactor blueprint as an award. It's rare though. Dualstar
Theres a catalyst/reactor bluprint available from a 24 hour alert after every devstream, which is usually every other week, on a Friday. They may also appear as random alerts or as battle pay for corpus/grineer invasions. There is no chance involved, either you were there or you were too late. _Malware
they gave us forma. lots of it.... I have been getting reactors/catalyst every week actually they drop out of the blue sometimes during alerts at random points in the day. when Im not home. but look at it like this as a quest. you have to grind for something in a mission, trade it in trade chat to make 20p you give this money to darvo as he requested and he rewards you with a catalyst or reactor

tennoninjahunter
Not sure what u're trying to accomplish, but i'm rather startled that u posted this topic, i like the way potatoes are appearing every fortnight now, I sincerely hope ur thread doesn't affect it in anyway.. If potatoes are grind-able, then it would certainly chg how stuff works , I am comfortable with how we're getting them now thank you
Brimir
After Devstreams. Nope. It is not guaranteed; they have often simply not had a 24h alert or substituted it with something else (like the Halloween alert).

Hypernaut1
Catalyst/reactors are the closest thing this game has to straight up P2W. They need to keep them available to players to avoid it being P2W. That said, i've gotten a fair amount in my few months of play. Enough to power 3 Warframes and a 4 weapons. 2 of them i was extremely lucky to get though. As long as you can power a frame and 1-2 weapons a month, i think the drop rate is a somewhat fair. No one should HAVE to buy a catalyst/reactor to play the game though. That is not a good response. I agree with the OP. We shouldnt have to buy power boost. Some of us players like to EARN our power increases. Thats the main reason why i have never bought one. I have 200P saved up that i use for slots and cosmetics. Buying potatoes feels like cheating. I enjoy the satisfaction i get from doing an alert to get one over just purchasing one. The only way i feel i fairly earned a OC/OR to buy is if i trade away my prime parts for plat, then use that to buy one.

xXxDavidCameronxXx
Yeah the halloween alert was such a nice replacement for a catalyst or reactor. Not. I genuinely didn't even understand the twist I guess they aren't as rare as I initially thought then, but I still dislike the idea of something having limited availability. I think that they should implement a more creative way to get power boosts, like more quest-lines or something. Does buying or waiting for a straight power boost add anything interesting to the game? No, it is just a badly implemented audience retention feature. I still stand by my opinion that they should be changed.

xXxDavidCameronxXx
Also before the inevitable "you get enough for free anyways, support the developers cheapskate." I have already spent money on a color palette (good micro-transaction) and WF/Weapon slots (Meh, it doesn't really add anything to the game, but at least it offers more variety, and not just a power boost.) DJ_Redwire
But personally I can not bring myself to purchase an item that provides no variety, no extra game-play, just a power boost. Then why does not having access to farm them bother you? If it's such as frivolous item with no ulterior depth to it, surely living without it is superior to obtaining it. xXxDavidCameronxXx
Then why does not having access to farm them bother you? If it's such as frivolous item with no ulterior depth to it, surely living without it is superior to obtaining it. Because it limits my power when compared to other people, I don't think it's unreasonable that in my eyes buying an item that is JUST a power boost seems like cheating. In a game like war-frame, the fun part is maxing out frames/weapons and moving on to new ones, the missions really aren't that fun in themselves but playing them with varieties of weapons and improving your stuff is. At the moment I've reached a point on my frame where I can't add the mods I want without waiting several days for multiple forma, or waiting until a devstream. The reason I compare it to mobile games is because in those games the driving factor is to get stronger, you can either pay or wait, waiting is really boring, but if you buy everything then there is no fun in the game anymore. So what I'm suggesting is they replace the waiting, with grinding so you actually feel like you can progress towards something instead of being frustrated at a silly wait time.
