-Onyx-Phalian
Ok, I'll say it straight out, lore wise I have near no idea what the heck is going in in this game. Who is Lotus? Why are we listening to her? Why does the ship act like it has known me for a long time? Why did the Tenno put themselves in stasis pods? What are Tenno? Are they humanoid aliens in which case how come you can change your sex at a drop of a hat whenever you change frames? Why are there no Tenno ruins if it seems that the entire Tenno race are now in stasis pods? Why do Corpus hate us so much (I mean BEFORE you're told to basically take something of theirs and shoot whoever looks at you funny)? Could we please have some story missions to tell us what the heck is going on here?
Sir_Caleb
Tenno are Orokin that have been touched by the Void. The orokin are humans that are WAY advanced than our time. The Corpus and Grineer are also humans. The Grineer cloned themselves to survive, but the corpus used technology. The void is full of ruins that are orokin (also tenno). Hope that clears somethings up,

-Onyx-Phalian
Many of these things were explained in events, which means it's slightly confusing if you missed them. Why are they only in events!? These are pretty important story points. Wouldn't that just turn away new players who have no idea what's going on since it would be like starting a game half way through the campaign and expect to understand what's going on other than "They're shooting me so I'll shoot back." For a long time events were the only way of communicating big things like that. We have quests now though, so expect more story. Vor's Prize explains why we kill Corpus and Grineer, so that's a start.
MichaelSD
The lore is so ridiculously under developed that a good writer could put it together on a weekend. DE needs someone to write stories and lore. What they do is patching the wholes and even that less and less (Frame stories anyone?).

-Onyx-Phalian
Now here's the thing. I will admit without hesitation that I am a noob, I have only been playing Warframe for a few weeks but I have unlocked nearly every planet right now. This is why it worries me that I know so little of the lore/story. I seriously want to do missions because I feel like I am helping Lotus or a Syndicate instead of doing them JUST for resources/cash. This doesn't mean EVERY mission has to have this but at least give me more than "I am doing what the Lotus says because she was the only one who didn't point a gun at me when I woke up from a long nap". I see a LOT of potential in this game and I hope that as a new player, I my feedback can help DE understand and refine how new players feel when entering this huge game. Now I believe a good example of how to do this was done by another game called FireFall (not saying it's better, just saying that they do a good job at giving you a plot early on so you feel like you're doing something in an open world). They started by having an opening cinimatic which gave the basic back story of the world before we dive into it. Now I have seen some of DE cinematic and I KNOW people would absolutely LOVE to see a new one maybe telling us about the Tenno and why we are in these pods. Then to solidify the characters Lotus and AI (I son't know the name of the ship's AI so I will call him "AI"), maybe have them talk between one another after the first mission, have an argument, and then have them solve it by letting you decide what to do next (Choices of either run or fight). You don't have to give us a novel of information, just give us enough to work with something.

Hope that clears somethings up, Tell me where did you get that orokin are humans. As far as im interested we dont even know if they are organic. Basically. 1)Tenno are orokin who were exposed to the void which gave them powers which are now our abilities. 2)Orokin build warframes which augment their powers and sent them to fight sentients. 3)Who are sentients?? no one knows. 4)Tenno werent treated as same race as orokin and were basically either 3rd class citizens or more likely just tools for orokins, so thats why theres no ruins. 5)Tenno supposedly killed orokins, reasons unknown, only witness is stalker, decide yourself if hes trustworthy. 6)After orokin extinction tenno put themselves to cryosleep. 7)Lotus awoken player controlled tenno, no info if she awaken our whole race, but we follow her, my guess is that is more than a gratitude but no info on that either. 8)We dont know how many tenno are we controlling, what their species look like but frame switching is possibly just a game mechanic not related to lore. 9)Grineer are human military led by twin queens, no info on twin queens except that they are queens so possibly women. 10)Grineer used imperfect cloning technology to achieve military supremancy, but due to it being imperfect they look like they look. 11)Grineer now oppress remaining humans. 12)Corpus is merchant cult which brainwashes its employees and looks for orokin technology. 13)No info on infested except small part about lephantis being created by orokin to fight in "old war" presumably as bioweapon against sentients. And thats pretty much it. Edited November 8, 2014 by Davoodoo

It was implied in livestream 10 that hayden tenno is "first tenno" but looking at it, hayden had no connection with void and his suit is organic lifeform not artificial creation also all his power came by evolution and possibly he could have more in future while tenno are limited to what their suit augments. But thats pretty much it. Edited November 8, 2014 by Davoodoo
(PSN)V3RM1THRAX
I thought the tenno were humans infected with that technosomething virus. Aren't there some infested quotes in game about that?

I cant remember nor i cant find any. Warframe is 100% artificial creation so its not the same suit as hayden used.
-Onyx-Phalian
You see? Not even the people who where a part of the original event can't even keep the lore straight, how are new players meant to keep up?
Mastikator2
The lore appears to be steadily expanding. I would think the next set of quests we get will be more revealing. Dude, the first iteration of Sonic The Hedgehog had more lore at its conception than Warframe has even though its been steadily revealing lore over the past 1.5 years. It's totally valid to ask for more lore at a much higher rate. The game has been out here for 18 months and still basic questions like "Who the is Lotus and why should we listen to it?" are unanswered. When you complete the Limbo Theorem, Ordis tells you: "Well, perhaps when you occupy this frame, you will use more... caution."
Neocyberman
I dont think DE really knows so much as they had an idea, wrote about it, fleshed it out and never got around to expanding on it in a meaningful way ingame. As seen here: These are things that had been ripped from the game a long time ago and if they were incorporated in the manner they wanted to it could have been a good way to clue the player in. What instead has happened is that the lore and the quests have fallen to the wayside due to the nature of the development cycle. Much like a series of other features the lore hasn't been touched on because it isnt "The new radical shakeup in the games features that totally isnt going to be shallow you guys we promise!". And as such wouldn't make for a great preview video. So it gets ignored or hand waved like all the place holders that haven't been replaced. (Tell me, what do you see in Hydroids pool? What is that on the Corpus's back in that new mode they worked on for a full year?)
