Yes you could specifically remember each friend and why you are friends with them or what you do with them but it could be simplified. I suggest friend list categories, such as raiders, traders, farmers etc. I know DE is busy sorting out U16's bugs and so on but I think this could make a lot of Tenno happy. All that is needed is a simple slot creator where you can type in a category name and insert your specific friends into. Colleagues, remind them of next week's meeting schedule. Current UI may need polishing or changed to better accomodate this. Current friends UI looked like it was done while super tight on budget.
