Transmutation

I understand that what I get out of transmutation is random.  I put 4 (relatively common) gold mod cards in, and got a silver mod card out.  It sounds like a raw deal to me.

 

Is there any way I can narrow down the TYPE of mod that I get?  Putting in different weapon mods, or putting in differently-ranked mods?  I know I'm getting an unranked mod out of it, but if I put 4 gold mods in, I expect a gold card out.

 

Is there any sort of guidance on this, or is it as literal as "rolling the dice" gets for Warframe?

In my experience, it's pretty random. I've even gotten common mods out of transmuting 4 rare mods x___x

Well, 4 of the same type (common, uncommon, rare) give you a higher chance at getting that type back, but other than that yeah, it's a roll of the dice.

Its RNG [Random Number Generator].

If you transmute the same rarity of mods, also the same polarity,,, The more chance to get rare mods & same polarity as the result

Soon with Simaris (sp?) we will be able to transmute with a little more precision but it will still be mostly random.

When you get high enough with the new Simaris syndicate you can buy Transmute cores that allow you to choose the polarity of the output mod and eliminate the credit cost, but it means you can only input 3 other mods.

tbh, u need to wait until u have stacks of rare mods and 1million credits.

Tranquil Cleave

Lifestrike x3

Rapid Resilience

Terminal Velocity

and numerous trash mods.

i had everything but the Terminal Velocity's but the others are worth plat in trading. i was happy.
