Saving Archwing

Recommended Posts

Currently, archwing is a fantastic concept that is receiving absolutely zero love from the community. This is because it is extremely underdeveloped.

In the normal ground game, there are over 200 weapons with hundreds of mods for customization. There are 23 warframes, 8 of those with a prime variant. The mods for these warframes allow for incredible customization based on defensive capabilities, ability use, and even things like stamina boosts and knockdown recovery. Not only that, there are hundreds of nodes to play on with dozens of tilesets and enemies.

Now if we take a look at archwing, we see stark differences. There are 3 archwings. One is printed. There are 6 guns and 5 melee weapons. One in each of those categories is just an improved version of an existing one. There are under 20 mods for each weapon type and for the actual archwing. None of these are nightmare or corrupted mods. There are two event mods for fire damage and status chance when not a single weapon has a truly viable status chance build.

Every single archwing item is also locked behind a huge grindwall that requires hours running the same mission on one of the three tilesets in order to get them all. Players gt burnt out multiple times as fast as any other game mode simply because of a lack of variability.

It's understandable that it's slightly underdeveloped since it came out about six months ago, but it hasn't seen a truly new archwing since December with the Itzal. Slightly later for consoles but the point is still the same. It's been months since a new archwing and most players who have one archwing did it for mastery and not for enjoyment. If archwing is going to survive as a gamemode, it needs serious expansion. It needs more archwings and weapons released more frequently with more customization through mods. It needs different tilesets with more than the few rooms/open space setups that are available. More game types would also be nice but isn't necessary.

The biggest change would be to remove the grindwalls. Running hundreds of rounds on erpo for the onorix blades and dozens of runs for the decurions pieces (the ones I've had the most annoyance obtaining) is absurd and tiring. It's especially bad because on top of these minute drop chances, they are untradable. Getting all of these items is an incredible feat filled with caffeine and prayers to RNGesus.

In my opinion these changes would get people to actually play archwing. It's a great idea that could be incredibly fun with some work.

TL;DR Archwing needs more customization and less grinding in order to be actually played for fun instead of as mastery fodder.

Edit: paragraphs so it's less painful to read

You worried about that archwing has not enough guns and mods, and in same time you want less grind?.. Where is dislike button? ha (this is a joke, do not get angry), well...

I would say, that here a much more difficult problem, and you won't save archwings by only adding a few new missions. This game mode not just "slightly underdeveloped", DE threw it without having finished, more looks like they stopped at "lets add wings in game" stage, nothing new...

Keep on waiting, perhaps, when they thought it over.., or no...

I really enjoy the concept of arch-wing  missions it gave me a small scale Kessel run moment and a good trench run moment in corpus missions. I also agree its a rather unpolished gem that could be made great so here is a little of what i have been cooking up in my eldritch box of a mind.

1) stances for your arch-wing melee weapons, i mean the stances for normal combat are so amazing and change getting in your opponents face significantly so why not take it to SPACE! and it doesnt have to be as unique a stance system that carried across every arch melee weapon would more then suffice.

2) transition mission, start in arch-wing or on foot then at a certain point, switch. Simple but i think very effective.

3) more "terrain" things to hide behind or use to create the fighting arena to let you gain an advantage

4) flight sim in dojo. Kinda like a obstacle course but lets your new recruits "stretch their wings" and learn how to be more effective

5) to expand upon 2 more mission types   going after a space boss would be cool or having a hijack like mission where you need to escort a lisset from one quadrant to another.

feel free to expand on these ideas, i think arch - wings cinematic feel will be amazing if expanded on just a little.

At this point I'd like them consider a design change for the Archwing by fusing the wings with myriad of Warframe parts and simply create a Archwing Warframe. The wings are nice, but they have differing powers than the Warframe you have them attached to as it is...making it an entirely seperate entity due to it using whatever aura card you have attached.

You could keep it relevant as a Warframe due to taking it into normal tilesets, adding attachments and regalia, while it can also enjoy the freeflight mechanic on the Archwing nodes while using weapons players enjoy as their mains.

Lastly to keep different in terms of other Warframes in normal mobility I would allow to jet skate, rather than run. That would be nice nod to the Armored Core players out there, since Archwing really reminds me of that ultimate boss fight mechanic associated with From Soft's Mecha series.

But that's me. Just sharing.

I don't want 5 more wings and 10 more guns if I have to run them on only 3 mission types. I'm happy with the current guns and wings as long as we get more missions types to play on however.

I agree we need more mission types. However, right now there's no team aspect. If someone has an itzal everyone is invisible if they stand completely still but that's unreasonable. It's more worth it to go solo and have less spawns in that case. We need a roar or molecular prime or blessing to have some co-op bonus instead of everyone taking whatever they like just because they like it. Basically I'm saying one without the other is not a solution. Archwing needs some serious work before it's on par with the rest of the game.

Although I do sympathize with you about Archwing needing team support. Molecular prime isnt the best example of team support. Things like Blessing, Energy Vampire, Roar and Warcry are teambased support.

No I dont want to derail the topic debating lol

Yeah not the best example but overall the point is made. Things that can benefit the whole team was what I was going for.
