...  to use harmony-driven balance updates.

To reduce the outrage or shock reaction from communities on nerfs or changes, the developer should use an approach which also creates positive feelings for the targeted player base.

That's all.

Any suggestions as to how they might do so? Genuinely curious.

A very simple example would be:

Nerf Iron Skin > Rhino players are initially disappointed > buff other Rhino ability or create content for Rhino players > Rhino players disappointment is less.

So they should create arbitrary changes when making designed ones, in order to appease people that will get upset next time when these arbitrary changes are... changed...

I can't help but feel that with the example you gave, you are assuming that Rhino is now not exactly where the devs intended? that is not necessarily so.

I agree that it may help try give some positive/negative changes per patch, but those changes have to come from somewhere. This patch they gave everyone a new frame.

No.

They should put nerf changes together with buff changes into 1 single patch. I am sure in U8 there will be buffs. So why not wait until U8 for the nerf? Or put some of the buffs into this update. So it is a balanced patch instead of a nerf patch for specific players.

And yes, I think Rhino is not as he is intended to be.

My point was how do you design it so that you are always making x nerfs and x buffs in the same development cycle? it seems to me you can't. Especially since tweaking gameplay is an iterative process.

I understand where you are coming from and it's your suggestion which is better than the other million "DE SUCKS, YOU FAILED US, YOU'VE RUINED MY LIFE" about the subject, i just don't find your solution very practical.
