Why Are ? Alerts So Rare

Just pondering over the rarity of "?" alerts and trying to figure out what the line of reasoning is behind the decision to make them so few and far between. We only get a couple alerts every hour and only about 1 out of 19 have an ? bonus.I can think of a few reasons they made it this way, feel free to add more...

- if ? alerts were more frequent they would lose that feeling of exclusivity

- if ? alerts were more common everyone would get everything they want in a week

- it keeps players engaged by checking twitter constantly, or other 3rd party apps

- encourages impatient people to purchase platinum so they can buy outright instead of waiting

- rewards unlocking all planets/missions by increasing alert frequency eligibility

Can't think of too many more reasons of making ? alerts almost non-existent, imo it hurts the game due to the randomness factor being as high as it is, and the ever-increasing number of items being added to the pool. Sometimes almost a whole day goes by with nothing, and sometimes there are 2 in a row or 3 within a 2 hour window. I actually do like the random nature of the alert system, and it would probably be okay as-is except with an increased rate of ? alerts. I'm sure they can play around with the random seed factor and increasing it for a while might be a worthy experiment.

I'd love to get that Dark dagger during my lifetime but one can hope eh?

Been watching our for the Dark Sword BP since the last time it appeared (27th of April).... Today while shopping with my wife, the alert went of on my phone. I looked and almost fainted... the  DS !!! Guess I have to wait some more as well.... so I know the feeling,

And I must admit that I wished for a moment that I could just leave her standing there with the groceries, race home and get it  ;-) But then again...hard to level a sword with two blackened eyes ;-)

I personally think that the alert missions just need to be re-designed.

For example. They could make a formula to make "?" missions pop up X amount of times over 24 hours. (lets say 9 maybe?)

They could adjust it so that alerts are planet-bound and each planet will independantly get a new randomly generated alert every 2 or 3 hours (just balance it so there are 2-3 new alerts per hour total or something like that), with a higher chance of "?" on higher level planets like Eris, Pluto and Ceres.

Many things they could do, including keeping it the way it is now (but that would just be boring right?)

they are only rare when you want them.

I know that feels

I was about to pull an all nighter but then I decided, time to sleep

I missed the dark sword again

no biggie though, now that most of the dark swords have been coincidentally been mostly occurring in the morning that just means i need to change my sleep schedule again

Here is a small guide to "?" alerts.

Use Nexus - every time something comes up you will be asleep / at work / at college.

It's the same for everyone.

There is a direct correlation between how much you want something versus when the alert happens.

Sadly, it's always on the other time zone.

Take a deep breath.  Relax and remember you can kill everything without the flavour of the week.  It is all good.

You'll get it eventually my friend.

https://twitter.com/WarframeAlerts

Ye the best way to check the alerts while playing other games or watching animes / movies :3

Also make sure you open all levels per maps so you can receive all alerts :3

This one is better: https://twitter.com/Warframe_BOT

You can clearly see the 11-hour gap of ?Alerts that just happened.** On the one day where I have quite literally nothing whatsoever to do. I played Skyrim and checked this Twitter every 20 minutes in the Steam Overlay. Nothing... Maddening. And then when I get in the first one someone starts asking how Rhino plays after the patch. I had no idea he was hit that hard.

** You can also easily see the event on May 14th where two ?Alerts appeared 20 minutes apart offering up Catalysts.

It does the EXACT opposite for me.  I sit there playing other games and occasionally playing the "twitter/phone app minigame"

Log in - get what I want and head out.

That's what I meant - it keeps players engaged even while outside the game.

Thanks for all the replies, I still haven't got much insight into my real question though. My real question I wonder about is:

Why do you think DE has chosen to make (?) alerts so scarce? What is their rationale? What logic are they employing in designing such a high level of rarity in the number of (?) alerts when compared to normal alerts?
