Proposed Counteraction To Multishot Dilemma: Ammo Recyclers.

In many games there are those weapons that have a chance not to consume ammo when they fire or consume more ammo per shot when they fire.

My suggestion doesn't affect your average shots per magazine(you still use the bullets at the rate that they are apparently going to be used at), it rather makes it so your reserve ammo is more efficient at replenishing it.

Ammo recycler mods would decrease the amount of ammo required to replenish your magazine. Like for example a soma prime has a 200 standard magazine and requires 200 of your reserve ammo to replenish. With an ammo recycler at say 60%(10% per level, 5 levels), it would only need 80 reserve ammo to replenish.

This would make it so that if multishot requires you to use more ammo, you could either go for more rounds per shot, higher ammo economy, higher rate of fire, or any combination of those. Basically the highest DPS combos would suffer from ammo problems, but one that relies on only shred and a recycler would be able to last for a long time.

Maybe make them a corrupt-esque mod and decrease your reserve ammo by the amount it decreases the requirement to refill magazines? Like a soma Prime with it's 800 reserve with 200 per full mag would turn into 320 rounds with 80 per full mag. Same effective reserve, but you can last longer on pickups(a box of 20 would be like 50 rounds, box of 50 with scavenger would be like 125).

That functionality is basically already covered by the various Scavenger mods, though those are auras rather than personal mods (there really ought to be more personal versions of auras). It does it the other way, simply increasing the amount of ammo you pick up from a given drop, rather than calculating backwards from the max ammo.

The thing is that this increases the ammo availability while costing that weapon modification points and only affecting that weapon.

Certain pistols like the angstrum use sniper ammo, so having a mutation on them will allow you to refill a primary using the same ammo with it and vice-versa, this does not allow for that cross benefit. Nor does it affect everyone on your team like an aura does.

You could still have that double or triple ammo consumption on your primary, but it would be offset by your magazine emptying faster and with this not affecting your ammo economy.

It would be interesting to have sentinel, a precept specifically, that performed this function for you. When you pick up ammo, the sentinel would convert /recycle it over time (or instantly) at some efficiency x% dictated by the rank of the precept mod.

Even better yet, make this a new precept that any sentinel can equip.
