Excalibur Suggestion

Many players have, at many points in time, lamented on how useless Super Jump is.

You spend a large amount of energy to... jump. A single jump that may or may not propel you to where you want to go, and if you miss the jump, you're out the energy you spent.

My suggestion would be to get rid of Super Jump and replace that with something that's a bit more useful:

Energy Shield.

Think about it -- when you say "Excalibur", you think of King Arthur, the Round Table, Knights, etc.

Excalibur in Warframe seems to go along with that theme -- he is supposedly a "Melee-oriented" Warframe, but there's one problem: He only has one Melee Ability and that is Slash Dash.

He has Radial Blind which doesn't really make sense for him to have, and he has Radial Javelin, which kinda makes sense, but isn't really a "Melee" ability.

My idea would bring the "Melee" back to Excalibur.

Basically, it would work like this:

You use Energy Shield, and a large, transparent glowing square shield appears on Excalibur's left arm. While the Shield is there, you may not carry a datamass (I assume you automatically drop it at your feet when you use the power) or use anything other than your pistol.

Said shield would block all melee and ranged attacks (except those with burst, such as Grineer Napalm attacks) that strike the shield. Your sides and back would still be unprotected and you would still take damage, and I imagine your head and feet would still be vulnerable too.

Pressing the melee button while Energy Shield is active, would result in a Shield Bash attack just like the Grineer Shield Lancers do and would have the same effect.

This would turn Excalibur into a Poor Man's Tank, increase his survivability a little, and give newbies a little easier time starting the game, as you commonly see Excalibur in Mercury/Venus missions.

I actually like Excalibur the way he is.

He is perfect the way he is now.

In fact, Super Jump is more useful than Radial Javelin.

If you want a tank, play Rhino or Frost.

(Sprint + Super Jump + Crouch) can get you across far distances.

(Super Jump + Radial Blind) = Tossing a Flash Bang grenade, ignoring obstacles in between.

(Super Jump + Radial Javelin) = Tossing a Frag grenade, ignoring obstacles in between.

(Super Jump + Melee Jump Smash with Heavy Weapon) = Uninterruptable melee jump smash knockdown

Radial Blind when Ancient Disruptor leans back and throws arm at you = Stuns Disruptor + No "Energy Removed" debuff

Radial Blind can stop Ancients from destroying cryopod while Slash Dash deals 500 damage (about 1/10 of so of their HP) to them per hit and moves you away from the cryopod at the same time and it gets worse with a high level Continuity mod.

Honestly, I wouldn't do much to change Excalibur. He's already one of the very best, if not the best frames in the game, and despite the fact that Slash Dash does receive the most love, his entire skillset isn't actually that bad, and in comparison to most other frames, his over reliance on Slash Dash is nothing.

Eh, I would prefer if the Excalibur would get either bonus damage for melee attacking, or be a bit tougher.  Nowhere near a Rhino, but more so than a Mag or Trinity.

Other than that...  I agree that Super Jump is kind of pointless in a game that can have you running along walls.

i'll stab any one who will touch my Super jump!

To be honest, I don't want it gone, I just don't want it to waste a slot of the Excalibur frame.  Let everyone have Super Jump.  Some people can make it worth it.  Most of us, don't.

  • 2 weeks later...

Excalibur is not a tank, he is pure melee offence. I play him with 400 shield and health at rank 30.

That said, his jump is pretty lame. I suggest adding a melee buff to it. i.e. While jumping, you can melee for a supercharged ground attack.

I think it needs a buff, because a lot of people assume that because the Excalibur is a beginner's suit, it won't cut it for later game.

Well I can tell you from experience that Excalibur is a very capable warfare on higher levels he the only frame I have ever used since closed beta began and he works just fine people just need to take the time to find the right mods and upgrade his abilititys and they will see he is one of the best frames in the game mods I would suggest for him would be shields hp shield recharge power strength energy efficiency and stamina and the mod that increase blinds radius I forgot the name for it

Super jump takes a lot of energy for you? That's funny, it's actually pretty cheap for me. Got me out of some situations, help me get that mod out of reach faster, and it even got me out of a glitchy spot after getting that last Frost Blueprint I farmed for so long.

The reason why Excalibur's Super Jump is so underestimated is because people aren't creative enough to turn the fight in your favor with Super Jump.

Besides, it is just epic to do a Super Jump + Slash Dash combo, maybe headshotting something. If any if his abilities is useless, it's Radial Blind. Any situation I find myself in that requires me to use it, Radial Javelin is usually a wiser choice.

Out of curiousity, why? No potato?

I just mean, his abilities already one shot reasonable level non-heavy opponents, and Blind duration doesn't scale, that leaves you with Flow and Streamline for sure, maybe Continuity for Slash Dash range, MAYBE Stretch for Radial Javelin and Blind range, since they're already pretty solid ranged...

Since you have a spare slot and energy not used by super jump, and so many mediocre choices, why not tank up?

On topic: Super jump is pretty bad :)

how about instead of 3 times it's normal jump height it should be 4 or even 5 times, with the ability to have a more horizontal  jump when sliding (Sprint+Crouch=Slidel Slide+Super Jump=Super Somersault) Also when using Super jump you get a bonus to damage on ground smash and air stylish slice. 8/16/24/32 Percent per super jump skill level.

Anyone who thinks super jump is bad is an idiot and doesn't understand how to use it.

It only uses 10 energy...

Leave Excalibur alone, he is perfectly fine the way he is.

Radial Blind allows you to freely melee.

For anyone that played Excalibur on levels above 50 will know that the two most used skills for Excalibur are Radial Blind and Super Jump.

Radial Blind is an incredible teammate friendly CC ability. When your slash dash losses it's bite this will help not only you but your teammates as well to get free shots in on anything.

Super Jump is immediate access to cover, ground coverage, escape. It's one of best mobility skills in the game. Sure most classes can get to most places, but not many can get there that quickly and easily. One press of a button and bam you skip several wall runs, elevator, massive gaps, enemy masses...etc

It's only useless if you don't have an idea how to use it.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with excalibur other than everybody and their mother will start out with it since its the "new player friendly" frame.

The dash is useful in its utility and dmg capabilities.

Radial blind, even though i would never use it, is not a bad ability. an aoe stun (essentially)

Super Jump is pure utility, in that it is a huge jump, that is really useful in some occasion, mostly in the void for me. gives alot of movement for an already fast frame

Radial Javelin is a really strong aoe dmg ability that has PERFECT synergy with mag's bullet magnet.

It has balanced armor, health, shields, energy, stamina, and speed. And pretty standard polarities.

I am going to go out and say that this is probably the only truly Balanced frame

Huh, according the posts here, I just don't understand superjump.

The one thing I'd like is if you could use super jump in the air.

This, however would be fantastic, as long as it has diminishing returns to prevent Excalicopter.

Super Jump + Slash Dash. It already covers almost any gap in the game you can think of. Within what 2 seconds?

Im not saying its "Balanced" as it has no specialties, im saying its balanced as it has no major glaring issues.

Excalibur excels at being a high mobility, physical damage oriented frame with a bit of Crowd Control thrown in to make it not completely damage oriented (like, for example Ember who has zero CC and is completely oriented in AOE dmg).
