Vauban's Vortex Is Bugged

Things in the very center of it doesn't take increased damage any more (aka, get instantly gibbed). They receive the same 10-15 damage everything else gets as it is pulled in.

 

I can honestly not be the first one to spot this. If there is another topic about this somewhere or I just completely missed something in the patch notes about it's center-damage being reduced to 10-15 from 2000, well. Damn.

 

But this honestly seems like a bug to me.

I also noticed that the vortex, causing damage to 13-16. I do not know how it was before, but I realized that a nerf Vauban. I read on the forum that the vortex kills ancient 50-60 lvl, but I have not noticed, Ancient rises and attacks on.

The Vortex skill used to deal over 2000 damage per tick to everything that was drawn all the way into it's center. But they seem to have removed this entirely without mentioning it anywhere, as far as I'm concerned.

 

Ninja-nerf much?

It is pretty lame right now. I hadn't played Vauban in a while, so I picked him up, and was really disappointed that they not only managed to lower the damage to the point of struggling to even kill a damned Moa, but they managed to make maneuvering around the vortex even more annoying.

Why would you ever use the Vortex over your 3 skill as it stands right now? More energy efficient, doesn't distract teammates (or you, should you be attempting to revive someone inside the zone)..

 

Vortex is terrible right now, repeating this since I just finished playing a ton of missions and testing it some. No point using it any more.

For me Vortex is a way to lure boss into it for 15-20 sec. Then shooting him up Boltor or spamming Despair. By the time ends, the boss would be Dead for sure. If not, i throw another 1, while he is like playing with Vortex i kill him.

 

Very effective against, General Sargus (Guy normally puts Bullet attractor on you, which is really annoying)

it might have something to do with the fact that before the latest hotfix the vortex was basically 1 hit killing bosses. they might have changed it so it does damage over time only, removing the massive damage from the epicenter of the vortex, but i cant say for sure. while the changes means that the vortex cant 1 hit kill a boss anymore, it seems to have lost its ability to kill mooks as well, since my vortex with max continuity doesnt seem to be able to kill em anymore. vortex in general needs to be looked at again to fix it, since its gone from "1 hit kill broken" to "cant kill S#&$ broken" lol.

i think the missing center damage is a huge difference, it should not be as strong as before, i mean...if i remember correctly, Ash Uber deasl 2k damage per hit.

And if i have seen it correctly, Vaubans Center dealt 2k multiple times...broken.

just...increase the damage by x10 compared to the outer-ring damage and it could work again

All this after they said in the Live Feed yesterday that they like were the Vauban was at and want all the older frames to be boosted.

 

 Vortex simply needed to have its ability to crit removed. It appears they broke its damage mechanic while ninja nerfing it.

 

This is my guess.

 

@DE Historically speaking ninja nerfing is a bad practice. Document your changes and at the very least you are honest and people can't fault you for honesty.

could be possible

but i hope they wont power up all the frames so that most of the enemys become to weak, or that endcontent becomes to hard.

i have seen this in Dungeon Defenders.

with every single update - new levels, increased stat cap, new uber weapons etc etc...

after a while the enemys were just to hard to defeat...but you needed to kill them to earn items to defeat them...

so, i hope DE wont do this failure too.

 

and yes, ninja nerfings is always bad.

but maybe it is a simple bug? lets hope so, and hope for a fix

I just did quite a bit of testing on the ability on Xini and Pluto with some help from friends. It for sure no longer has a large damage tick at its center which use to occur after 3 sec or so of the enemy hitting it. I tested various variations of the Vauban abilities and abilities that i normally have equipped to see if it affected anything to no avail.


 


The result is that this ability no longer has any effect on armored enemies and in some case with a high enough level unarmored enemies. LvL 50 ancients will only take 1/5 their health in damage for instance and chargers are not killed but only left at death door.

THIS.  And I can't stress enough ^^THIS^^  I quit defense games as soon as a Vauban throws his vortex out in front of me and I go floating around all over the place.  (I have seen some positive feedback about this though, since people use it to completely replace Excals super jump)

The super jump bit is just a novelty that serves very little actual purpose.

 

It's doing what? 15 damage per tick right now? Considering that it used to do 2000 per tick, upping the damage to the neighborhood of 150 per tick shouldn't be too bad.

Because right now, it's more a complaint about it being a ninja-nerf, as opposed to a bug. We won't know for sure until they say something about it, though.

We currently have a known bug where Vauban can sometimes throw "dud" grenades. Sounds like what you are experiencing.

it happens everytime with vortex.

vortex ticks with 10-15 dmg, no center damage etc

tried it with a T3 Vortex, its not even enough damage to kill a level 8 Ancient...its even worse than Absorb in this state
