Shovel
So I've always had this idea every time I play a game that heavily involves melee to some degree, and I've never seen it implemented. I see a lot of people suggesting bad-&#! ninja takedowns, and a lot of other people saying that they would slow the game down too much or that it's too time-consuming when there's more to be worked on. I agree with the latter faction in the case of Warframe, as all too often in other melee-heavy games have I been $&*^punched by someone while trying to look cool and cursing myself for it. Some would say "Well make the player invulnerable when performing a finisher!" But still, that just adds possible exploits in crowded areas and such to the slowdown issues already present. SO I'll get straight to it. Charge/air/slide attacks, and perhaps normal attacks too if you could wangle the button presses somewhat, could simply hold their final position as long as you hold the button down. It's simple, it's stylish, and I think it would suit Warframe to be able to pose just a a little bit, but not to have over the top triple backflip 360 takedowns and such. Once the button is released, the character return to their idle stance. Perhaps a maximum time limit on posing to stop people getting too pretentious, but I've never been able to see a problem with this idea beyond implementing it for regular tap melee attacks. But, then again, maybe finishing a boss with a light jab is stylish enough in itself. Any feedback? Any problems? Want to call me an idiot? Have at it. Tetsmeha
Combat is about killing everyone really fast. Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox and PS3/360 made sure all your kills were because of your own attacks. In Ninja Gaiden 3, enemies are a complete joke as all you need are a few hits and then press one button to win. As cool as it looks, nothing looks cooler than doing your own finishers yourself. Arkfall
There is a game called Vindictus that has "takedowns" of sorts.. and if you keep them short, sweet and to the point, I acually don't think they would hamper the flow at all, darkSector's Take downs are great examples. Yeah and Vindictus has combat in the same vein as Monster Hunter. I don't see any big bosses that require timing for any of their attacks. I'm sorry but it just doesn't apply yet. That's what I'm saying, this method never takes control away from the player, it's just a little thing you can do if you feel like it, similar to, say, in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, if you sheathe your sword just after killing an enemy you do it fancy. There's no cutscenes or anything, you just look a little cooler if you want, I guess.
