Keyboard Keys Not Shown And Not Working

I am able to use "X" to open the menus/dialogs for various functions on my ship

but it stops working when the dialog is open like this in the picture,

I have tried every key on the keyboard and clicking on the button, neither of those work

It's been very frustrating since there're missions that ask if I want to extract or continue, I have no choice but to continue since I cannot press "X"

Also, I can't chat either...since again, it requires clicking "X" to start typing.......

please help...
