Pandoran_Stallion
Hello all, I've only recently started posting on the forums again, but I have wanted to make a thread like this for a while. With the forma and leveling changes recently announced, I thought I would put in a little feedback regarding the system overall, and what improvements might be made, with this thread pertaining to weapon leveling and modding in particular. Let's begin with a brief overview of the leveling and modding systems. Currently, base damage mods are required to play high-level content with any weapon in our arsenal. Mods such as Serration (R10, +165%), Point Blank (R5, +90%)(Primed: R10, +165%), Hornet Strike (R10, +220%), and Pressure Point (R5, +120%) cannot be ignored in any build that scales past mid-game. However, due to the different values of each mod, these weapons scale differently. Shotguns, intended to be the heaviest hitters, receive the lowest damage buff of any weapon class unless a Primed mod is used, while Melee weapons, which should deal heavy damage at close range, must rely on melee multipliers to maintain damage output. In weapons reliant on critical hits, such as the Dread or Soma, critical chance and critical damage multiplier mods are also mandatory for damage output. As a side effect, many other mods are simply ignored in lieu of these aptly-nicknamed mandatory mods. This discourages build variety and diversity, and creates mod conflicts with Sentinel weapons. It also heavily skews damage output towards certain weapon types. Due to the lower values on base damage mods, melee and shotgun use are not as viable as high fire rate or continuous fire rifles, which have both a high damage output per second and per hit due to the higher values on their respective base damage mods. Warframes, however, level differently. As a Warframe levels, its health, power max, and shields increase. Leveling also unlocks and strengthens abilities. This was done to allow Warframes to make use of all their abilities, rather than rely on mod cards for their use. Weapons, not sharing this attribute, remain relatively useless if unmodded (in most cases). In my opinion, Warframe scaling by level is superior to weapon leveling for this trait alone. With this in mind, I would like to propose a similar scaling system for all weapons that relies on weapon rank (which, for the purposes of this thread, I will assume will remain independent of mastery rank). Base damage mods, critical chance mods, and critical damage mods would all be removed, and replaced with a bonus that increases with weapon level. This serves several purposes: Removes mandatory mods from weapon builds, encouraging build variety. Removes mandatory mods from drop tables, allowing new players to obtain these bonuses through gameplay rather than by chance. Removes mandatory mods from drop tables, reducing mod drop dilution. Removes the imbalanced and unevenly-distributed values on individual weapon classes, and grants all weapons a bonus that rewards leveling. Allows weapons to increase in their effectiveness mid-mission in the same fashion as Warframe abilities. The bonuses are listed below. Spoiler For every two ranks, a weapon gains +10% critical damage. For every three ranks, a weapon gains +20% critical chance. For every five ranks, a weapon gains +30% base damage. In short, a weapon at level 30 would have an innate +180% base damage increase, +200% critical chance, and +150% critical damage multiplier. Although this is largely a buff across the board, it is intended to be a buff to weapon classes that are not on par with automatic or continuous-fire rifles. While pistols lose +40% base damage, they gain +40% crit damage over Primed Target Cracker, and +13% critical chance over Primed Pistol Gambit. This also boosts the damage potential of melee weapons by doubling their base damage increases and greatly increasing their critical multipliers. These would be treated in the same way as the mods are currently, but rather than be mods that consume space and capacity, they would be innate stat increases. I hope that you found this interesting! If you have any comments, opinions or questions, please keep them civil. I'll try to clarify and reply as best I can. Thanks! -UpgradeInProgress TL;DR: Read the bolded sections.
