it means you might have fallen victim of a scam that's been going around. Basically there should be no way of getting negative plat balance unless you were cheating or something (not saying you were) but there is a nefarious thing done by players where they can gift something that's worth more plat than the receiving player owns and the original player puts a charge back on whatever card they used, basically recalling all the plat (including the plat that was used to gift you something) causing players with insufficient plat to protect them from the charge back to be banned for negative plat.  the way to fix it is by getting out of the negatives.

According to DE this never can happen. It would make the trading system unsustainable and far too risky.

Quote

Players have never had Platinum removed or been banned for trading fairly with a regular player that had a chargeback. Yet, if you buy from a goldfarmer, you can get banned or have those trades reversed as your Platinum was not purchased legitimately. The only safe way to acquire in-game items is through authorized sellers like warframe.com/buyplatinum or Steam, to mitigate risk of triggering the AutoBan system but also for your own safety as a consumer.

being gifted from said gold seller would still result in the same thing. but there are only few cases where your plat would hit the negatives and it more often than not involves some form of shady dealings.

For clarity,
If you get platinum from someone who then has a chargeback, you will not get banned because of them.

wasn't there a period where that was the case? i remember there was a surge of threads about negative plat around the time the "charge back" fiasco started.

Could you please update the PSA regarding this?

I've asked a couple of times for an update to clarify this specific concern. It comes up quite often and ends up scaring some players. That and it would be helpful to explicitly mention that DE retains logs of trades so players can feel safe knowing that scammers can and will be held accountable.
