Archwing Rush on Phobos (Kepler), more time is needed

Recommended Posts

Wipeout is way harder and faster than this but

A - It was fun

B - The controls are reliable

Making a boring thing next to impossible is a recipe for disaster and hate.

Pursuit is even worse, as one node is locked behind it, so you can't deploy extractors on Uranus because of damn pursuit.

One other problem is that both those missions are an unicum and don't have a learning curve, that some Wings and Weapons help a bit, but there's really no reason to build and level up 5 Wings and 10-ish Weapons just for like 5 missions and some Mastery Rank Point

Oh god, don't even mention that damn Pursuit mission. If I can even hit the single pixel hitbox in the engines, that joyous moment lasts approximately 17 milliseconds before the ship - with it's inertia-less drive - spins around and porpoises away.

I've managed to disable the engines once, in like 10 tries. At that point, you have roughly 5 seconds to destroy a shield generator, and in your copious spare time, deal with the mines and drones the ship sprays out.

Hell with that. Someone said "Grattler makes it simple." I'm not getting myself a Grattler for one damn mission, though.

Rush: Oddly enough, This is one of my most used ways to farm Lith Relics. I can (average of all the runs i do) dish it out in about a minute and 30 - 45 seconds. Using the Itzal with Hyperion Thrusters, and of course, this is not without practice. Focus more on reaching the end then getting there and getting all 3 ships, there is no point in trying to finish a race as fast as you want if you can't even finish it.

Pursuit: I Can take down the ship very quickly and with relative easy, but its getting the other B & C rotations for the rewards that I can't pull off (I have gotten 1 B and 1 C rotation reward before, but I haven't the slightest clue as to how I did it). Sadly, the Grattler is a very useful weapon to have, though it can be done with out (just calls for some very good aim and a good amount of practice).

To sum it up: Practice, Practice, Practice!!!!!! Just like when we all started Warframe, Archwing is no different, You need to practice.

That video is dated just after the archwing control update, but there's no drift/momentum, and the horizontal plane never changes so I can't tell if it is using the new control scheme or not.

I have been trying to do the rush mission about 30 times. I failed about 75% of those missions. I know there will be people who say it is sooo ez but I could not find one of them in region or recruiting chat. On the contrary, from those people I played with I was always the only one the got to the end of the mission.

I tried Amesha, Odonata P and Itzal with blink. But none would help much. After about 10 times I started to get a feeling for this tileset and got less confused. But it does not really help. Once you fly into sonething, and that happens a lot, you loose a lot of time.

The tileset is totally messed up. It is so messed up that we do not even need any enemies. The obstacles are more than enough to keep us from reaching the transports at the end. On top of the tileset are the controls that put you upside down from one second to the next. When that happens I totally loose orientation. On top of all these problems comes the new archwing movement with strange deceleration.

So, please as long as the movement is that terrible, give es more time for the mission. This is not big change in programm code and would not even have to fix the real problem (archwing movement). Add 30 seconds and even with this tileset and with the current movement it would yield a much higher chance of success.

Yeah Archwing in general needs a whole giant update.Until then i just reccomend you go as slow as possible and try to shoot those tether balls.Dont go fast or else youll just crash into things

Look, with a good AW and familiarity with both AW controls and the tileset, I can pull this off too. The problem with Rush is its placement on Phobos (a newbie-tier "planet"), at a non-dead end node (locking progress for newbies unless they somehow clear it), and with a timer entirely too strict for its intended audience (newbies who barely know how to AW).

So if you do this on solo mode you get more time and its easier. Just did it on my first try

It doesn't matter if you do it solo or with others, the time/length of the map is random every time you play it. When you start you get about 2-3 minutes to finish.
Based on the time displayed when you start, you can tell if it's a short or long map.

Wow, this thread is almost reaching its 1st year anniversary.

Now that they brought back the legacy control scheme, I have noticed that more people perform better in pub runs. I no longer have to wait 5+ minutes at extraction before a second player arrives so the countdown can finally start.

For those out of the loop who don't read update notes: Options -> Controls -> Archwing -> Experimental Flight <OFF>

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but it's as Mattoropael says. New player here and the only flight mission i've done previous to this is from the Arcwing quest which i died 5 times on.

The timer is arbitrary from what i've seen. You start with 3 minutes but then the sergeant tells the ship to hurry and cuts the timer in half 3 times when you get closer. When i get there he says "we're leaving" or something along those lines and they're off.

16 tries at the moment and i've seen the 2 shielders just before it flies away once (my first try ironically enough). Managed to do 30% health on one of them.

Edit: Apparently there's more than 1 ship in the same spot which i totally missed. I thought you would take 1 down, go to the next but no. I managed to do it by a hair left. I'll add a video of a newbie doing it somehow. Not sure which of the 3 ships fly away first. The one at the bottom is the one i saw the first try i did it and when that flew away i failed so i guess that's the last one? Might be random though since the one i cleared it was the upper one.

The timer given to you is random. 2-3 minutes.  What/when you see the guy talking is irrelevant.  The first ship always leaves when there is exactly 30 seconds left. If you have destroyed the 2 shield orbiters before the fly away animation starts, you can still destroy the ship as it is leaving in the background since it has no shields.  If the orbiters are not destroyed in time, once the escape animation begins, the ship will have permanent shields and cannot be destroyed anymore.

So when you reach the ships and you have like 40 seconds left, focus on destroying all 6 orbiters first, then the ships.

Only voice you need to listen to is Lotus. She will specifically say when you have reached halfway / midway the map. if she says that and you have < 1 minute left, you pretty much lost. Abort and try again.

The order they fly away is random.

archwing doesn't work with ps4 controller do I need to do them to progress

Not...exactly. You need to use Archwing for the Limbo Theorem quest. You need to use Archwing to fully unlock planets (I think each planet has an Archwing node? Can't remember if they all do, but most do). However, as far as I recall, you can still unlock all the junctions without Archwing -- you just won't be able to deploy extractors to the planets where you haven't completed all the mission nodes.

We're twins! Found this thread from what, a year ago? And I figured, no, surely the devs would have fixed this mission. They have not.

Once I managed to get to the end with the ships pulling away, got like 10 rounds into one of the annoying shield generators and then they bugged out. After many, many trials I got there with two transports still around. And you know what? My warframe stopped being able to fire.

That's right. I could fly around but couldn't use sword or gun.

I get that this is some kind of bug, but the amazing stratospheric difficulty of getting here and then having to watch two transports just pull away because I couldn't do anything? Words cannot describe my emotional state.

Is it doable? Yes. Is it realistically possible to new players (keep in mind, it's on Phobos)? Nope.

It should either be kicked upstairs to a higher-level planet (like Jupiter, exchanging with the Sabotage), or have its time limit increased to accommodate the (very) new players that are actually going to run it.

This seems about right. I've got a newbie archwing with no mods, and only a couple of mods in the gun and sword. I don't understand how this mission is designed to be achievable at my gear and skill level. The difficulty curve as compared to other missions is absolutely brutal.

I've played a lot of games with flight in them. This mission, hands down, is the worst of any I've encountered, including Wing Commander escort missions. I guess I'll never complete Phobos, as this is not even remotely fun and the difficult exceeds my skill. Because the archwing isn't actually fun to fly, and the map is difficult to navigate, this has NEGATIVE FUN associated with it. Did someone in the design team think, "Hey, what we need is a mission to get rid of our new customers! I've got just the ticket."

The archwing isn't great fun to fly in tight / cramped channels. Adding a time-based anxiety meter (seriously, Lotus needs to cut out the "YOU'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME" I mean I know, you're not helping) deletes this from anything I want to ever experience. Ever. Ever. Again. Well done designer, you've made the worst mission in the game.

Interestingly, the mission is about a million times easier on PC than it is on console. Noob archwing on PC and I got it in pass #2; I never managed to beat it on the Xbox, even with a souped up archwing.

I think you might even start with an extra minute on the PC version.

So funny story, I was logged in with my PC account when I posted that above, but I'm playing on PS4. I will change my login and see if this makes more sense and continue :)

And we're back. Ok so I was trying to do this on PS4, not PC, and it's very hard!

I finally managed to do it. I got two of the ships (one had already gone). My strategy (for new PS4 people stumbling on this thread who have the scrub archwing), was:

  1. Learn to love the boost, but feather it / tap it. Point at a hole in the sky and go. Just trying to boost everywhere is not a good solve. I needed to "get good" at pointing at things and boosting towards them.
  2. Boosting past the mines is better than shooting them except in specific situations. Again with pointing-and-boosting, your inertia will often carry you past and if you line up a tunnel with a couple mines, boosting from the start, you will probably skate right by both mines. If you hit the wall, try not to cry.
  3. If you get snared by a mine switch from boost mode to normal and struggle out. Try not to break your controller in frustration.

Having now completed this and having an opportunity to reflect on my precious comments, I'm sorry for my negativity towards the design team. That was just mean of me, and not professional and constructive. Sorry devs, I suspect you work pretty darn hard and seeing comments from clowns like me doesn't help team morale.

I think the problem for me is that I *do* suffer from anxiety. When there are compounding events that trigger anxiety, it's very hard! I play games to escape that, and got anxiety triggered from the artificial scarcity of time + unfamiliarity with controls. It doesn't excuse my tone, but it's why I seemed so upset.

If I could offer a suggestion on this, it could be useful to have some kind of "archwing training mode" (and there may be one that I haven't found! Still feel so noob at this game). If there was a Death Star trench run simulator (like this rush mission is) that you could learn controls in a pure training theater, it would really help people like me come to grips with the mode without triggering anxiety.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good holiday season! Merry Christmas.

What a dated thread, anyhow, there are issues with this and potentially difficult for new players.

I never known of it and tried it, did it with 2~minutes to spare but realised that the rewards are.... dumb. You'll need to wait for ships to leave and fail intentionally for A/B tier rewards as you can only get a single reward from a tier. It's been there for months and just as neglected as Infested salvage's questionable streamline drop.

I got it first pass on PC once I fixed my control setup (Dash wasn't working right). I've re-rolled from PS4 to PC, and I think the problem is, well, it's far easier to point and aim your Archwing with a mouse and keyboard. Controllers get aim assist for shooting in missions to make up for the mouse precision factor, but there's no friendly helping hand (or not one I can determine) for Archwing flight. This mission is all about flight, not shooting, and hence the problem (IMO).

I'd def. recommend a little extra time on consoles, as it's brutally hard on those platforms but relatively straightforward on PC. I don't know if you get an extra minute or not, but whatever it is the difficulty is not the same across platforms.

Keyboard and mouse. Impossible with controller, all ships 1st run without it. Sucks to be you if you're on console.
