Well, that's something completely unrelated to PBR. PBR simply means Physically Based Rendering, which is basically just a more advanced rendering technique that provides for greater flexibility, control, and better looking textures. What you're complaining about is the particular TYPE of texture they've used. For the Vaykor Sydon, they used textures that are similar to the other Vaykor weapons for consistency, which makes sense. To be honest, it looks more grineer now than the original did.
