Figure out what kind of play style you want or have, and go for gear which supports it, initially. Once you find some things you can be really comfortable with, you can go for more variety quite easily. (My main loadout was Valkyr, Vulkar, Kulstar, and I think Karyst. also with a Sunika Kubrow.)
