"Metamorphic" Gun In Warframe (Weapon Concept)

This idea came to me very recently because i recently played the Jak and Daxter games but i had some thought into it and the idea can do very well in warframe. A little backstory into the idea, the 2nd and 3rd Jak and Daxter games had a unique weapon that can change its rounds when a certain directional button is pressed, here is a link to a video for the weapons (FYI the reason the playable character aka Jak has a big head in the video is cause the person making the video is using a cheat, the heads supposed to be smaller than that but thats not relevant to the topic)

After watching the video youre probably wondering "how could this fit into warframe when it will be difficult to do this with regards to button assigning?" the answer is it wont, the concept is the gun can change its rounds via a particular trigger of said event, be it a certain button. a particular appearence etc.. for this concept we can have a weapon that can deal elemental damage based on its energy color (like how chroma can do so with his energy color). Green will do toxic damage, yellow-red will do fire, blue will do cold, and purple will do electric (dont know the names of all the colors off by heart so i went with basic colors). These elemental damages will have the same base number so no elemtal will have an advantage over the other aside from their affects on certain damage reduction types.(armor and shields etc.)

Hope you liked the concept cause i certainly loved playing the Jak and Daxter series and would love to see the gun they used in the 2nd and 3rd games to make it into warframe, cause this type of weapon will make the gun more flexible when it comes to modding as you can make 1 of any of the elemental combos we have in the game with just one other elemtental mod (and another combo with 2 other elemental mods).

What are your thoughts on the concept? would love to hear peoples opinions on it. If you dont like the concept please dont make rage comments, be constructive about it :smile:

I've read and reread your concept a few times now and I'm not 100% sure I understand it, so with my interpretation of it I have the following to say.

Would I be right in summarising this as;

"A weapon that can switch ammo types/firing mechanisms in a similar manner to Vauban's abilities?"

That would be pretty simple to implement, just set it so that alt fire toggles through the modes. It is after all, essentially Stradavar + extra modes. Using colours to set the damage type/mode is bad, partly because that is Chroma's thing (although it shouldn't necessarily be unique to him (but that's a separate issue)) and partly because being forced to choose colours to be effective really hampers the true endgame; fashion ;)

If I were to suggest an improvement, it would be that you could (on this weapon) use alt fire to swap between your weapon's configs ie Config A, Config B, Config C. That could be really useful, particularly for invasion type missions where you are not facing the same faction each time, or for fissures where there is a mixture of enemy types. Personally I would especially like to see this implemented on weapons like Stradavar, where switching to alt fire swaps it to Config B where you can have different mods that are more suited to the single shot mode.

However, what I think will bring debate is the concept of having a gun that is essentially 4 (or more) guns rolled into 1. Much of Warframe revolves making the most out of weapons and often the compromises that must be made are what makes the whole modding system so interesting. Having 1 weapon that can do everything will end up as 1 of 3 things;

  1. make everything else redundant
  2. be dogsh!t so that it doesn't make everything else redundant
  3. have 1 good mode, and 3 barely acceptable modes

Personally what I take away from this concept is how good it would be to have a 'proper' needler weapon (as in the video or from the Halo series). The closest we have now is the Buzlok, and we all now how good that is...

The elemental damage was just an example (should have made that a bit clearer so i apologize), the improvements you suggested have some good merits but as for the stradavar, the idea of it switching fire modes exists with it and changing it wouldnt help its situation of its stats being weak. Having a new weapon type that has my initial concept with the config change improvement you suggested will add to variety. When i thought of the element being based on energy color aspect, it was a feature of the weapon where it will add an elemental stat based on the energy color (if no energy color is applied, the damage numbers that wouldve been for the elemental would become extra base damage).
