Nothing. It goes into the Aether. It still shows you it in the after action report but it just get's culled back to whatever max is.

Could be converted into a percentage of credits instead. Say, 10%... Or also have a percentage of it split between all other itens.

Or even both, each being the player's choice.

TBH I kinda like it that way. It would be way too easy to keep gaining mastery rank using the same 3 weapons otherwise as either you'd just gain empty levels or like other people have said they wanted to do is store all that xp up then poop it on a weapon you don't want to use just to level it up for mastery ranks.

As is now you want that mastery rank to rise you gotta play with a variety. :D

It goes into the pool of exp they use when they hand out login rewards.

To have a set of gear for speed farming, Boss runs, Doing alert missions in 5 minutes, etc...

On the other side of the arguement. Why should you become better or more proficient with everything if you only ever use the same 3 weapons on the same frame?
