Hek Vs Sobek

If you want extremely high consistent damage in a single shot, use the Hek...

If you want to be let down, use the Sobek...

I WAS let down before the buffs. But now it's a very viable weapon and pretty enjoyable if you use it correctly. I do pretty damn good damage with it against mid level enemies, and it's only at around rank 15 for me. Don't even have any elemental mods on it.

Hek is still the go-to for your typical powerful shotgun needs of course. But Sobek is definitely viable in its own right too.

Edit: I posted this a bit ago. It's Sobek vs. Strun, but it still gives an idea on where Sobek stands amongst the shotguns.

"Strun base clipsize = 6.0

Strun base reload speed = 3.0

Sobek base clipsize = 20.0

Sobek base reload speed = 3.5

By going clipsize and reload speed alone for DPS....Sobek wins. Of course going on spike damage on a single, normal mob target, Strun wins. But constant sustained fire against stronger mobs/bosses? Sobek. Both shotguns are viable for their certain strengths. But either way, you (and a few others) are sitting here arguing that a .5 reload speed difference makes this shotgun "unusable" when it has over 3 times the clip of the Strun, does about 4/5ths damage per shot of the strun, and has a much, much lower delay between shots.. *rolls eyes*"

The Sobek seems a bit superior after the buff, sure the reload is long but you'll have to reload your hek five times for 20 shots. The bullet spread is rather tight, you can kill runners without blowing them up and stun ancients. Biggest point that makes the hek still worthwile is the superior ammo efficiency.

2 devastating weapons. But which one is better?

HEK is nice if your dealing with a few stronger NPC and carefully managing ammo conservation.  Sobek is a just nice crowd control gun that just lets you continuously fire and is great when dealing with a lot of weaker NPC or for sustained DPS on a boss. They are both guns I would give a solid recommendation of using.

I have both potatod and formad once.

They perform about equally as effectively, just differently. The Hek is amazing for burst DPS. I use point blank, hell's chamber, flechette, accelerated blast, blaze, a 40% magazine size mod (gives 2 extra rounds), chilling grasp, and tactical pump. You can slam out 6 extremely painful shots fairly quickly, and reload them all pretty fast too. Those 6 rounds are enough to kill even very high level heavies if you aim for weakspots.

My Sobek uses the same mods as the Hek except with shotgun spaz instead of tactical pump, and puncture instead of magazine size. Imho only the Ogris is better at handling large crowds than a well-modded Sobek equipped with a puncture mod.

Try the Supra, it's fun on crowds

Sobek has more DPS and needs to reload less, so you can lay down fire for longer. Much better for Defense, Boss Farming (minus Banshee) and Mobile Defense.

Hek for significantly more burst damage. Better for everything else as you can kill someone in one blast and keep running.

regular hek vs regular sobek...hek wins

forma hek vs forma sobek ...sobek wins

Sobek gets much more payoff from mods.  The more you mod it, the better it is than the Hek.  32 fully-auto shots uninterrupted at an insane speed outclasses the Hek's 6 shots, no matter how much damage it does.  And trust me, I <3 my Hek but I know the truth.

Personally, I prefer Sobek. The high magazine count means that you aren't spending half of the mission reloading, and the damage is high enough to at least keep up with Hek and the other shotguns.

well, to be fair the shotguns aren't going to be spending all the time always with a target to shoot either.

besides, with tactical pump hek 1+ second reload is a non-issue, there are plenty of times inbetween enemy kills for you to do that while moving/aiming/etc. at least it's not a "sitting duck reloading" kind.

Sobek is about 58% of the damage of Hek per shot, with a drum magazine.

Sobek is also superior at range to Hek because of the massively higher damage it has. 25dmg/pellet means that it hits like a truck at ranges any other shotgun would be dealing 1 damage.

Sobek is also highly accurate, even more so than Hek because of it's lower pellet count. all headshots is a breeze with Sobek.

Sobek is better for super high level enemies even with the slightly worse ammunition economy simply because it will deal higher damage than Hek will. eventually Hek will get out damaged with less base damage.

Sobek... is better.

Sobek is also much more interestingly designed visually IMO, but that's opinion.

i'm sure most people will disagree, but Math says otherwise, and i stand firmly behind Math. Science is just about always correct.

that being said, Hek isn't bad. they're both powerful.
