How Do You Even Level These Mods

How can some people fully max out Serration, Hornet Strike, Vitality and Redirection? I can't make it halfway without pummeling it until I have to pay 30,000 credits with these mods.

Is there some secret? Or do you just have to use 1000 mods to get it to max level?

The secret is to not max it.

I only have Serration at 5~6 (whichever one has 10 cost and 105% damage), and that's the highest cost for a mod in what you mention above. IIRC Redirection is at 9 cost.

Any more seems to gobble up most of my fusion core reserves for ONE RANK.

And I only sold off my white mods going into U7, and didn't use them much.

Nope, you really have to sink in that much. Because of diminishing returns, you're probably better off leveling other mods unless you really have nothing better to use them on. I'd suggest getting them to like rank 6 or so and moving on, coming back only when you've leveled everything else you want to.

It takes patience and time.  Some people have been at it since before closed beta.  But most important is like Shion posted.  Don't max it.

You don't really need a maxed mod for all of those mods.  Rank six to eight is particularly strong.  You could easily stop there and be fine.

If you really want the most powerful mod though, then your best bet is to take your time and only put a bit in at a time.  A few mods and cores every couple of missions will work out fine to max out those mods.  They are just going to take you a while to finish.

I actually finally managed to max my serration today, the last level took like 600 k though (not to mention all those fusion cores).

It's definitely worth it in the long run though, since serration (as well as hornet strike and point blank) increase the BASE damage of the weapon and are calculated before all the other effects actually take place. What this means, is that the extra serration level not only grants you those +15% damage, but also empowers all your elemental mods (which indirectly makes mods like + fire rate or + multishot more effective too).

So this means fully maxed serration and hornet strike is spectcular. Like, kill ancients easily spectacular. Damn.

Yep, it truly is. Hence it's absurdly high upgrade cost - but getting these mods to high levels is what truly makes your weapons shine in the long run.

Similar to what everyone else has said, Serration and Hornet Strike require a significant investment in order to max. For this reason, it's better to leave them at around level 8 so you can max everything else. And once done (or when you have the mods to spare), go back and max them.

If you are patient enough, you can cut the cost by throwing in just about every other type of mod.  Most of them give pretty poor results, but they cost less.

The big balance between cores and mods is the credit cost and how many you have.  If you are going for a maxed out rank 10 mod, then the credits probably don't bother you either way because you are getting particularly rich on credits anyway.  If you aren't rich on credits, then you spent too much somewhere.
