Tsikuriโ€™s Gate

Aka, โ€œRockhopper Heaven,โ€ or โ€œThe Eye.โ€

dfhb4vu-be985537-cd02-4ca6-94f6-ee52c221

โ€œAsk any Orokin left alive or twixt*, theyโ€™d say they were the only ones to try and leave the Origin System. Thisโ€ฆ is, putting it simply, untrue. Thereโ€™s the Inok and Esha moonguns in the Oort Cloud, the Black Box Consortiumโ€™s Voidfold Gates, and the Bidanian Exodus. The Bidanian scholars claim that the Orokin might have destroyed their sleeper ships, but still others claim you can see the plumes of its engines as it travels forth.

Perhaps thatโ€™s ghostlight. Who can say?

Whatever the case, people have been trying to cross the gulf between the stars for as long as we have been able to scrape the edges of the Origin System, even though that distance isโ€ฆ. Massive. Incalculable.

Tsikuri is the result of one such attempt. Though unlike the others, it had the backing of the Sentients.

The Old Lokites managed to prostrate themselves before the Sentient Tsikuri, Eyes-Between-Worlds, and begged to be allowed to escape the system. They would flee to a far-off sun, forsake technology, and live simply and peacefully, molding the planet into an image of Earth as it was

And somehow, she listened.

The gate she created would orbit the moon of Oberon. It led to a strange realm known as W-space a kind of extrapolation of the same technologies used by Condrix to sidestep the need for the Void-derived Solar Rails. This would itself lead to another gate, in far-off Proxima or one of the destinations sought by long-forgotten refugees from the Golden Lords.

Naturally, word got out, and thus began one of the most chaotic chapters of the Old War. Oberon and its surrounding environs were barred from all but the most loyal Orokin fleets, despite its status as a valuable salvage site. The Orokin declared a blockade, which Tsikuriโ€™s Fragments and Worm-ships promptly destroyed. The Orokin raised another blockade and Tsikuri raised more defenders, turning the asteroids and ship wreckage into a mess of constant fighting, landmines, and automated defenses.

The Orokin tried desperately to tamp down on the rumors, but to no avail. Beaten down by hundreds or even thousands of years of oppression, so absolutely spiritually and mentally desiccated that even the prospect of an asteroid caused a kind of religious revival in the form of Temple Telamon, hundreds of humans with access to ships flocked to the gate. Bidanians, Oeizu, Ostron, Oneiroi, the Satko, even those claiming descent from the long-dead Buyan Alliance, Inok and Esha, all took up arms to protect Tsikuriโ€™s Gate. Irreplaceable, ancient ships were used as suicide bombs, and weapons that scored the boundary between Void and Realspace left bloody rents in the space around Oberon. In one instance, a forgotten needleworld was used as a projectile, dropped on the Orokin staging area on Titania, which obliterated virtually all Orokin settlement there. Some of the only Sentient weapons shaped for human hands were forged in this conflict. At least one generation lived and died to build the gate, aided and hampered in equal measure by an unusually long-lasting Void Storm caused by loading a ship with rifter bombs and launching it at an Orokin battleplate.

Perhaps wisely, Parvos Granum made the decision to stay out of the fight.

If anything killed off what little loyalty the Tenno held for the Orokin (and it wasnโ€™t much) it was the Battle of Oberon.

Not leastย  because in its aftermath, nobody truly felt as if theyโ€™d won.

Tsikuri herself was killed, ripped apart bit by bit, and sinking into the gravity well of Uranus. And, once at least half of the ships had ventured through her gate, a lucky shot from an Orokin battleship caused the gate to spontaneously collapse into something similar to a miniature white hole and spray out waves of exotic energy, shattering the moon of Oberon and disintegrating ships directly in the path of the gateโ€™s โ€œeye.โ€ The Orokin who had fought tooth and nail to keep the escapees in the Origin System had nothing to look out on but an expanse of wreckage as far as the eye could see. The Tenno had to deal with the fact that theyโ€™d helped murder people whose only crime was wanting to leave. The few escapees that had survived the radiation bombardment from Tsikuriโ€™s Gate and hadnโ€™t been ripped apart by asteroids ripped from the surface of Oberon had no way of knowing where their compatriots had gone, if anywhere.ย

All that was left was a debris field of ancient ships, chunks of the moon, ice, and Void fluctuations, bombarded by strange radiation. Due to Tsikuriโ€™s Gateโ€™s resemblance to an eye, this earned the nickname of โ€˜The Gaze.โ€™ Even the Grineer struggled to ply their trade in that area. Tyl Regor made some token attempts to excavate it, trying to find rare void-enriched minerals, but to call them cursory is to be profoundly charitable. Rumors persisted of an Infested organism known as Nidhoggr that swam between the wreckage.

And yet.

With the Sentient Wakening, just before the New War, the fluctuations died down, downgrading the shattered moon once known as Oberon from โ€œinstant death zoneโ€ to โ€œSurvivable, yet outrageously lethal.โ€

Periodically, Tsikuriโ€™s Gate still emits bursts of radiation, which have a tendency to reveal ancient wreckage, improbably buried within asteroids that were once pieces of Oberon.

Most incredibly, itโ€™s actually possible to venture within the Eye to an unknown region of space, full of displaced asteroids from the shattered moon and wreckage from the ancient fleet. Some who have managed to explore it describe a mysterious โ€œcageโ€ of Sentient substrate, appearing to guard the inside of W-space from the Void. Others describe seeing another identical gate, or even other gates, at the furthest reaches of W-space, charred and blackened.

However, nobody has been able to travel far enough to find it. Once the radiation pulses are emitted by Tsikuriโ€™s Gate, all contact is lost within W-space, and sometimes the ships are found spat out and hammered into an asteroid orbiting the shattered moon.

Many suspect that the wrecks - and those few wrecks found in W-space - comprise the entirety of the Exodus Fleet that sought to escape to Proxima Centauri. However, there are those who dare to hope that some fraction of humanity managed to escape the Golden Lords, that there is, perhaps, a better world out there.

Somewhere.

Personages:

There are three main enemy forces vying for control of Tsikuriโ€™s Gate.

Enemies:

  1. Regor Forces: Tyl Regorโ€™s forces maintain a tenuous hold on Tsikuriโ€™s Gate, scouring it for Sentient wreckage and exotic materials. Regor, for all his faults, maintains a keen interest in the lost sciences that may be hidden in the bowels of the lost ships of the asteroids and W-space.ย

    1. Unfortunately, the presence of Narmer remnants has left them susceptible to subversion from both Steel Meridian and Kahlโ€™s Regiment.

  2. Narmer Remnants: Pazuul and his devoted servant Jenaidus see Tsikuriโ€™s Gate as a holy site, and view themselves as having an equally holy duty to murder all who so much as witness the Eye.

Pazuul in particular wishes to use the gate to open a connection to Tau. He cannot be allowed to do this, and nobody within Narmer has the ability to tell him that Tsikuriโ€™s Gate is simply too dangerous.

  3. The Palnik: Itโ€™s one of the only places they can hide, after having provoked more of the Origin System than the Pyrite Hand. Typically, they hide within various boltholes and ships within the asteroid thicket of the Shattered Moon to steal from others. Absolutely nobody likes them.

Friendlies:

Nonetheless, itโ€™s a place for the destitute of the Origin System to make their fortune. Many of them are based on the Needleworld** Meabh, (itโ€™s pronounced โ€œMabeโ€) a cylinder-shaped orbital habitat above Uranus. This serves as something of a hub and repair station for Tenno railjacks venturing towards W-space and the Gaze. Baro Kiโ€™Teer, always on the hunt for unique artifacts, makes frequent stops here.

  1. fReemade: In fact, theyโ€™re the ones who gave it the name โ€œRockhopper Heaven.โ€ The fReemade are a loose coalition of Solaris who managed to jailbreak their bodies and render them untraceable to Corpus repo men. Often, they reconfigure themselves into barely-human configurations, such as extra arms, and legs that can transform into arms for extra utility in zero-gravity environments.

  2. Steel Meridian: Not to be outdone by Kahl, they recruit Grineer deserters from Regorโ€™s forces and have sworn an oath of Raโ€™gham to to the the fReemade. (This means protection)

  3. Rockhoppers: Not even truly a faction, rockhoppers are independent miners who steal entire asteroids (or even just small micrometeors) from Grineer and tow them to safe space stations such as the needleworldย Meabh. They're fully unionized. Rockhoppers often consider the crews of their ship to be less employees and moreย family, with the Captain simply taking the patriarchal, matriarchal, or parriarchal role.

Their favorite weapon is the Meatmaker shotgun.

  4. โ€œCosmoโ€ - a mysterious figure in an ancient spacesuit, who has completed the most voyages into W-space. He sells strange, ancient artifacts. Reaching max reputation with him will reveal that under his suit, he is actually [REDACTED].

Before I forget: โ€œtsikuriโ€ is a term for the โ€œGodโ€™s eyeโ€ ritual object in mesoamerica.

Also, fine: probing Uranus. I finally said it. You happy?

essentially yes, but with procedurally generated asteroids to explore. This would give it a greater sense of scale. Meanwhile, going into W-space would be like a raid boss... except in ships. And the boss is the area itself.

Also hey, I finally got to write about the fRemade! FINALLY, DAWG!

Fun fRemade Fact: I stole this from China Mieville.ย

Wait, apparently it's spelled with 3 'e's. Wack.

To make a long story short,ย Remade from China Mieville's Bas-Lag cycle are a permanent criminal underclass of people who are surgically mutilated by the government as punishment for various crimes such as stealing. For whatever reason, New Crobuzon doesn't incarcerate people, it mutilates them by doing terrible things such as grafting a fox into the middle of their chests, making them unable to live without a small steam engine that replaces their lower legs, turning their heads all the way around, grafting tentacles to their chests, removing their mouths, or grafting the arms of a baby to the face of the woman who strangled it so she was always tormented by her own guilt. There's also a mention of Remade that are "miserable men and women, both cabdriver and cab," which I find that I'm just happier not thinking about. There's also the Remade brothel which OH DEAR GOD I CAN'T THINK ABOUT THAT. It's a very sophisticated satire of how criminals are marked for life, and often have virtually no choice but to recidivate.

Also, sometimes the Crobuzoner government feed people to soul-eating moths. Kontgesigs.

It's not too dissimilar to the plight of the Solaris, whose very bodies mark them as outcasts, property, and untouchable, not to mention how they can often be consigned to work on Venus as punishment. Also, in Iron Council, there's a mention that the railroad company wants Remade that are better suited to industrial work.

Anyway, fReemade are Remade that managed to escape the city, and live a free yet hardscrabble existence of banditry and robbery.

ย

Incidentally, I have a Sentient-derived shotgun around here, somewhere, so I could probably say that's loot from around here.

Along with the Tarvoss, since I'm probably not getting any input from @Almighty_Jadoย about how to get that thing from Tau.

That sounds fun, having procedurally generated asteroids/wrecks to explore would be fun. Sure they do have that in Railjack already but I wish the missions were more open I guess since most of the time you want to just go there do the objective/side objective and leave, since there isn't much to explore there. Maybe have a free roam mode withย  something similar to what the planes of eidolon used to have where optional bounties would pop up that you could do or distress calls you could answer and just have wrecks to explore if you just want to do that.

ย

Also thanks for reminding me that the Travoss exists I really liked that one.

The biggest issue with how Railjack feels in a lot of Corpus missions is...ย

Look. While doing Grineer Railjack missions is cumbersome AF in solo, so many Corpus RJ missions just make me ask "Why did I need a railjack for this mission?"

All of which sounds cool! Tsikuri's Gaze is meant to be.... just very,ย veryย rich in possibilities that way. I realized as I posted it that it could work pretty well as its own setting.

Thank you =D It was a lot of fun for me to draw, and I can imagine people doing...ย trulyย incredible things with it by adding Galvanized Aptitude. You could go up against Grineer with a viral/heat build and start randomly proccing Corrosive or Rad. Or start causing gas AoEs against Infested.ย

Only issue is I'm not a hundred percent sure what it does yet. For some reason, I'm leaning towards a "bouncy explosive slug" for altfire, but I want the primary fire to do something else too.

maybe some sort of burstfire with each shot of the burst having a different forced status proc?, like say cold, then electric, then fire or something that would make sense for what the weapon was designed to deal with.

"Commissioned as a riot-control weapon by Anyo Corp, the Kelvin was meant to suppress uprisings of Anyo Corp workers. However, the Kelvin - as a cold-based weapon - proved laughably ineffective against Solaris United strikers that had developed a resistance to the cold, one of whom beat a particularly infamous Corpus overseer to death with his own pelvis."

Primary Fire:ย Cryoshot -ย diffracts the focus lens to fire several cryolasersย which slow and freeze enemies on impact. This can be charged (much like the Drakgoon) for tighter spread... and extra Impact and knockback.ย
Secondary Fire:ย Snowball -ย fires a slow-moving ball of cryotic which "arcs" freezing energy to enemy in a nearby radius. This has a chance to chain. However, this is arguably more useful if it doesn't hit anything - it explodes (violently) on contact with enemies. This uses a semiauto trigger.

A Corpus primary shotgun built to be compact and easily stored while maintaining the power of a full-size shotgun, the Kelvin uses a cryotic core to fire a spray of cryolasers which slow enemies on impact. An alternate fire mode fires a slow-moving cryotic burst that freezes enemies within a radius of the ball... unfortunately, it explodes on contact with hard surfaces.ย

The Kelvin works as a crowd-control hybrid weapon, able to both freeze groups of enemies and deliver high single-target damage. While it has decent crit chance at 18%, it can also be built for status.

Usage

While the Kelvin never found prominence as a riot-control weapon on Venus, due to the aforementioned pelvis murder, it's not to say it was entirely useless. This weapon is used as a sidearm by Corpus Techs, and a primary shotgun by numerous Corpus soldiers. It's found its way into the hands of police units in more urbanized Corpus habitats and arcologies, too. Rumor has it, though, that the makers of the Raptor series of Heavy Osprey Units will create a Raptor (or Osprey) drone armed with these weapons.

NOTE: If an enemy is attempting to use the altfire, it will display a (blue) laser, much like the Vulkars of Grineer snipers.

Augment
Overdrive Sequence:ย Chargingย the weapon long enough allows it to fire another round in the mag. It's possible - though unwieldy - to let it fire the entire mag.
Freezing Hail:ย Lasers and Snowball bounce off of hard surfaces 2-3 times, or until hitting an enemy.

Artist Notes:ย
Well. That's done.

As my other computer, the one with photoshop, is in the shop due to trackpad issues, this one probably won't be colored. The design from this was... interesting. I was sort of going for a hybrid of charge shotguns from Defiance, the PEPS from Deus Ex, and various weapons (mostly the Contact Beam) from Deadspace.

I never did make raid gear for this. I should get on that too.

Dur-Girra

"A mysterious structure foundย floating in the storms of Jupiter. Its original function and builders are unknown, and entire levels are listed as 'quarantined' and 'hostile' without further elaboration. Nonetheless, it remains inhabited by craftsmen, drifters, Solaris runaways and Corpus archeologists and other misfits who pay for upkeep by selling materials, strange components, and resources that Dur-Girra manages to accumulate."

ย dur_girra_by_fluffywolf36_df0xjaq-fullvi

A mysterious constructionย found floating in the storms of Jupiter, accidentally discovered by a gas freighter that nearly rammed into it. Somehow - archeotechnologists are still trying to puzzle outย whyย - Dur-Girra is extremely hard to detect through most modern sensor devices, and it requires specially designed beacons to direct anyone towards it.

ย As it floats across Jupiter, kept buoyant through arcane null-gravity technology, it strains the atmosphere for isotopes and metals, constructing ingots and exotic materials and filling massive warehouses with them. Curiously, this is only a small fraction of the functions it's capable of - massive swathes of machinery throughout Dur-Girra sit, rusted and covered in dust. These two attributes provide the two main industries of the floating megastructure. Firstly, its haul of resources are sold to nearby Corpus outposts and other colonies. Secondly, Dur-Girra's population sell reproductions of its technology (along with spare components) to Corpus gas cities, particularly that of Alad V. In particular, it's a great exporter of unique nanotechnology, which remains easier to use despite lacking the raw power and strength of Orokin era-nanomachines or Technocyte - .

Common knowledge among the population of Dur-Girra is that it exists at only a fraction of its previous capacity. Despite the exceptional quality of the materials it can create, (such as lithium) production actually lags behind other Corpus gas cities, in terms of sheer quantity. In addition, massive amounts of machinery within the megastructure remain covered immobile and covered in dust.

However, there's one more issue - vast swathes of Dur-Girra remain unexplored and dangerous, inhabited by malfunctioning and hostile proxies that attack anything on sight. Some were onceย  Corpus designs, others are unrecognizable.ย Stranger still is that the inside of Dur-Girra remains impossible to map and saturated in Void Energy. Explorers have recorded dimensions larger than those found outside, passages that seem to shift and turn when you're not looking, and reported strange audio reports. Adding to the issue, it's rumored that things that were once Corpus explorers and acquisitions teams haunt its depths.

Perhaps stranger still, Sentient forces - some belonging to

ย  Reveal hidden contents

Natah

in the days where she took over Alad V's operations on Jupiter, and others belonging to more fragmentary Minds - seem to be fascinated with the makeup of the place. As do the Infested of the Cyst Rigs.

Early analysis suggests Dur-Girra to be a creation of the Buyan Alliance, (the ancestors of modern day Dziewannans)ย  an ally of the Ancient Corpus, known for pushing the limits of Orokin-era bans on technology and Apostatic Sciences such as Void Geometry, Ectoplasmatism, AI programming, and sociology*. In addition, the Buyann Alliance were known for their aptitude in nanotechnology, (It is surmised that they learned it from Esha remnants) along with managing to use captured orokin Terminal Genes to briefly gain an understanding of Void technology.

This understanding admittedly did not come close to that of the Orokin's, but it was the closest anyone got,ย  with the exceptions of Parvos Granum and the population of the Cursed Moon. Perhaps because of this, they were caught in the crossover between the Sentients (it's surmised they wanted to absorb Buyan and consume its nanites) and Orokin, and were virtually eradicated but for hideouts on the outskirts of the Origin System such as Dziewanna.

Gameplay Notes:

I do not actually know how to integrate this WF gameplay - at least, not in a way that makes you think "Wow, this unique tileset is pretty poggers, I would go back there repeatedly!"

All seriousness though, it is - more than anything - just an excuse for me to have some fun with all the lore I've written out.

ย

* I was kidding. Except not really, because the Orokin created a society so hilariously dysfunctional that i couldn't resist.

Corpus โ€˜Tenet Celerasโ€™ย pistol

โ€œOne of the very, very few ballistic weapons in the Corpus arsenal, these twin gauss autopistols are designed for highly mobile fire. Pistols fire faster and with more damage while in motion, or just after a burst of high speed.

In addition, traveling at high speeds with (and firing) this weapon charges up a kinetic projectile with a high blast radius.ย

Special Traits:

Kinetic Dynamo:ย Fires faster and up to 25% more damaging the faster you move. Can be fired while sprinting. Firing and movement charge up a Sonicor-like kinetic projectile.

ย

Lore

One of the very, very few ballistic weapons in the Corpus arsenal, the Twin Celeras gauss pistols were designed by Granumโ€™s private think-tank as a weapon meant to compete with Tenno mobility. These pistols use a top-loading magazine above the receiver, not entirely unlike the Tenno โ€˜Hyronโ€™ SMG.

This was enough to distinguish them as supremely unique firearms. Each pistol is equipped with an Entrati-derived kinetic dynamo that uses its wielders motion to increase the power (and rate of fire) of each shot. In addition, firing while in motion has the chance to randomly not consume ammo.

Thereโ€™s a three-second period after remaining in motion where you maintain some of the charge built up by moving.

On top of that, building up kinetic energy in this pistol charges up a Sonicor-like altfire mode that ragdolls enemies on direct impact, and deals an impact proc on enemies in range.ย Each pistol can be individually charged by tapping the altfire key, which can allow you to fire away with one pistol as the other automatically charges a devastating shotโ€ฆ or, perhaps, overcharging them both to hammer into enemies with punishing dual explosive shots.

So fast do these pistols fire that Corpus Comba and Sisters of Parvos have both nicknamed them the โ€˜raspberries,โ€™ for reasons that are truly difficult to explain.

However, the greatest obstacle to the widespread use of these pistols has been the Orokin-derived devices they require. As theyโ€™re extremely expensive, and much harder to effectively use, theyโ€™re restricted to Sisters of Parvos. Often, Corpus Comba troops find themselves with degraded versions that have lower projectile velocity and hold fewer rounds.

Comba with these weapons are typically equipped with jump packs or some kind of movement ability, possibly also invisibility. There also exists a third, civilian-grade version of this pistol, which lags behind most similar sidearms of the Origin System and is considered beneath notice by most Tenno. It's typically used to make this assault rifle.

As inspired by the Static Cannon from DOOM 2016. โ€ฆI might have to make something that works like a โ€œstraightโ€ version of that.

ย

Anyway, Digital Extremesโ€™ devs, once upon a time, divided their weapons into three categories - bullethose, precision, and AoE. Granted, we have plenty of hybrids, like the Acceltra (which is both bullethose and AoE). And even Iโ€™ve made a hybrid or two or three, like the Haoma, Bruin, Euston, and Avakan - all of which are assault rifles with high bonus headshot damage.

ย

This weapon, however, is part of that elusiveย fourthย category Iโ€™ve made:ย FLOW WEAPONS.ย

Examples would be the Enferon shotgun, (which refills ammo on melee kills) the Cascabel, (which encourages you to get up close due to a wildly bizarre spread pattern tied to mag size) and the Strigoi Prime, which acts similarly to the Rampage from Apex in that itโ€™s supercharged once you use a Warframe ability.

ย

Flow weapons are meant to work in concert with or exaggerate a playstyle, and as such they come with easily breakable stats. For example, the Cascabelโ€™s accuracy is tied to its mag size. If you triple the magazine size, the first and last shots maintain the same accuracyโ€ฆ but the sixth shot would have the same spread as the second shot. Or something like that.

ย

So conversely, this weapon is meant to work with your playstyle by being used while youโ€™re in motion. The decay of the bonus after three seconds is to add a little margin of error. Go use this as Gauss. You know you want to.

ย

โ€ฆIncidentally, the damage is capped at 25% bonus because I really,ย reallyย didnโ€™t want it to be too exploitable. The fire rate isnโ€™t though! I donโ€™t know how to do the math on the fire rate, though. Sorry.

Many locations of the Origin System have, in the lead-up to the New War, found themselvesย  receiving interesting guests:ย

A heavyset person who prefers the pronouns they and he, displaying a dizzying variety of skills and keen on studying various subjects. Or perhaps, multiple people - some have claimed to see subtle differences in behavior and build. Each of them wears either a mask or has a heavily augmented face, with goggles that replace the eyes.

Each member has a formal, archaic mode of speech, combined with odd pauses, accent and emphasis on the wrong syllables.

They claim to be from โ€œThe Institute.โ€

Exactly what institute they hail from is uncertain, especially as the more popular nomenclature among Corpus is โ€œacademy,โ€ and โ€œInstituteโ€ is considered to be an archaic term.ย

Each Institute representative (if they are different people, anyway) seems to have a different specialization. However, the two most common are history and medicine.

The latter are perhaps the most โ€œcommonlyโ€ seen, and theyโ€™re heavy moneymakers for the Institute. Much of this money comes from the medical care of elderly Corpus barons, who pay them handsomely.ย  In addition, they often serve as caretakers of a sort to the Entrati, hungrily gulping up what knowledge remains in them and attempting to reconstruct that which they have forgotten.

Whatever they learn, they hoard. They refuse to teach many of the medical techniques they know, which could likely save people from Infestation, and heavily redact what few texts they allow outsiders to study. Instead of offering a library like Snidge University, (which boasts actual paper books) the Institute offers people the chance to read from custom dataslates completely isolated from local networks.

This focus on profit, combined with their inscrutability and recalcitrance in sharing information, has earned them a poor reputation with institutions such as Iapetus University andย  the Ganymede-based Snidge University. Due to previously being the territory of fascist nations (Grineer and Corpus, respectively), both strive for as much accessibility as possible in their academics. Iapetus University, in particular, was designed as something of a factory for trained professionals, in a mad dash to have enough people to maintain the machines and build infrastructure in the wake of their rebellion against the Grineer. Meanwhile, Snidge University is heavily socialistic, offering free classes as a deliberate slight against the Corpus. In addition, they have a strained yet stable relationship with Cephalon Suda.

Despite all this, the Instituteโ€™s knowledge of history is second to none, and no academic worth their salt would dream of passing up a chance to share in the Instituteโ€™s knowledge.

Itโ€™s unknown what the physical location of the Institute is, or even if it has one. Itโ€™s speculated that could be anywhere from the Oort Cloud, to a wandering spaceship with archeotech stealth capabilities, to submerged in the hidden seas of Earth or perhaps Europa, or perhaps even within repurposed Orokin towers in the Void.

While contracting with Corpus, Tenno, or Entrati, they often pay in rare technologies or knowledge. The breakthroughs that can be provided from this can allow Corpus to make great strides in technology, buying up entire moons from their competitors. In fact, itโ€™s rumored that some of Anyo Corpโ€™s technological prowess comes from the Institute.

ย

Wares:

Completing missions for them, in historically significant locations such as Mars, Dur-Girra, Europa, the Void, Lua, Ganymede, Iapetus, Earth, (particularly Cetus) the Orb Vallis, and Deimos unlocks standing, which can be used to purchase various cosmetic armors, synandanas, (one synandana in particular is an ancient banner) weapons, and a rotating supply of relics. In exchange for protection details, an Institute man is perfectly happy to trade a priceless ancient weapon to the Tenno.

In their words, the weaponry would likely just moulder on one of their shelves, so it's best that it ends up with someone that'd put it to good use... particularly on Grineer.

The Institute are not fans of the Grineer, as it happens, seeing them as terrible scholars who are good for little other than destruction.

They also sell their own kitgun parts! A grip bought from them will change the fire mode of a chamber.

ย

  1. ย -Tombfinger becomes burstfire (similar to the Headjumper loader, which I have not posted yet.)

  2. Rattleguts becomes auto burst

  3. Vermisplicer now works similar to the Ocucor

  4. I donโ€™t know what the Gaze does

  5. Catchmoon becomes burstfire, and gains increased range and magazine size (at the cost of some stopping power)

  6. Primary sporelacer fires four explosive projectiles in a shotgunlike spread. These each have roughly a fifth of the normal sporelacerโ€™s damage, but make up for it by not having drop off. Well, not much anyway. It has increased ammo consumption. Secondary sporelacer fires an explosive that explodes repeatedly on contact, dealing radial toxin damage three times (in a slowly shrinking radius) on impact with anything it hits.

ย

Conversely, any chambers from them (which I have not made yet) act different with Solaris loaders. Loaders from the Institute, however, can change the base elemental damage type of the loader from radiation to one of the basic elemental damage types, along with magnetic or blast.

(Blast is in such a terrible state that I donโ€™t care that much)

Ideally, there should be an achievement for making a kitgun that has parts from all three sources of parts. Unless I add another source. I should do that at some point.

ย

SPOILER:ย

Reaching high enough rank with Institute will reveal that not only are they Solarisโ€ฆ

(Which was pretty obvious, Iโ€™m not gonna lie)

Spoiler

But each member is the the same person, existing as a hive mind that shares the same sensoriums, sharing sensation across the Origin System. This being, this organism that links these bodies in communication from Lua to the Oort Cloud is, in fact, the Institute.

Huh. I didn't think of that. Honestly, I went with kitgun parts to deliberately draw a comparison to Zuud. I feel like I've been de-emphasizing the Orokin maybe a little, drawing attention to the capabilities ofย otherย factions (which is fine, that's my right) but ironically I feel like that's pushed the Golden Showers out of focus just a bit for me.

Also, I'm probably going to have to tweak the damage for all the semiautos I've done. And the Vlcak. Maybe also a burstfire weapon if it was designed close to a semiauto in terms of power... whatever that would be, anyway.

Voruna's lore is actually surprisingly in line with Vulkodlak's psychopathic levels of aggression.

ย ย I don't know if I ever told anyone this, but one of Vulkodlak's alt helmets was planned to have the face of an Orokin executor nailed to it,ย upside down.ย It was gonna be called the Pauzu helmet.

Vulkodlak

โ€œThe Orokin tried to kill this wild, uncontrollable, ferocious Warframe. They succeeded. That only made it angrier.โ€ย

_vulkodlak__tenno_warframe_by_haruaxeman

Codex

Vulkodlak was something of an early prototype for Valkyr. As it was often difficult to truly โ€œcreateโ€ or even โ€œpredictโ€ the focus of a Frame at that time, the Orokin couldnโ€™t have imagined what they wouldโ€™ve created while morphing the technocyte nanomachines into this shape.

The result was a violent, brutal berserker that kept trying to kill itselfโ€ฆ and failing. When the Myrmidon came to hunt it, they could never kill it. Not permanently. But its combat prowess was unrivaled - the Orokin sent the first Vulkodlak unit to destroy a Buyan Alliance stronghold on Neptuneโ€™s moons, confident that the population of an entire moon could destroy it, and likely lure the alliance into a false sense of security.

The first Vulkodlak unit did not act according to plan. It slaughtered the population of the entire moon, crippling the Buyan Alliance almost overnight and forcing their remnants to flee to the furthest-flung habitats at the far fringe of the Origin System.

With yet another push by the Sentients, Vulkodlak was accepted for mass production. And thatโ€™s where the problems began - Vulkodlak Frames would assault each other without provocation and were prone to violent outbursts against anything, whether or not they had a [REDACTED] present.

Eventually, they started attacking anything Orokin (save for their fellow Tenno) at the slightest provocation. As these attacks grew too frequent, the Orokin issued a Mass Recall, calling on the Tenno to launch a coordinated assault to destroy Vulkodlak Frames.

Legend has it, however, that at least one Vulkodlak survived and hid on Ganymedeโ€ฆ

Their signature weapon was the โ€˜Poyangโ€™ grenade launcher, favored for its use as both a grenade launcher and shotgun, its incendiary rounds, and its ability to inflict self-harm.
ย

Acquisition:

Awhile ago, I came up with an open-world concept for Ganymede.ย  It would've been an open-world with a heavy lore element, and most of the weapons I've made (except the Infested and Sentient ones) would've been rewards from there. However, I lost the thread of that one (sorry) due to weariness with grind islands.

Why is this relevant?

Because a Vulkodlak Frame is a rare miniboss that spawns at night on Ganymede. And, to acquire its blueprints, you have to beat it in a fight.

ย

Abilities

ย Passiveย 1:ย Desperation -ย The lower Vulkodlak's health is, the greater the damage he deals. This comes in stacks.ย

Passive 2:ย Deathless -ย Vulkodlak has no shield.ย ย However, hisย health is always regenerating.ย

Passive 3:ย Hurt Me Moreย - Vulkodlak receives self-damage instead of stagger. This is determined more by percentages of total health than base damage, though.

Passive 4:ย Feedย - Killing an enemy while downed has a chance to revive you.

Passive 5:ย Echoes of Umbra: Melee attacks enemies while in SPOILER MODE.

ย

1.ย Howlย - Vulkodlak howls at a devastating volume, stunning enemies and opening them up to finishers. This can also do bleed damage. The lower his health, the louder this ability is. And the more range and duration it has. While comparable to Bansheeโ€™s 1, itโ€™s actually more like a blast from an Arca Plasmor that does blast damage exclusively.

ย 2.ย Savageย - Pounces at nearby enemies, and consume their health.ย

3. Guard Dog: Simply aim in the general direction of a teammate and cast. This will give teammates an overshield, and slow Vulkodlakโ€™s health regeneration to a crawlโ€ฆ while transferring the majority of damage received to Vulkodlak.ย ย If the over shields receive enough damage, itโ€™s transferred back to Vulkodlak, releasing a radial explosion. This is subject to health gating, meaning that - try as you might - this cannot actually kill him.

4.ย Rampage:ย  Expend stacks from passive to painfully transform (Vulkodlak audiblyย screams in pain)ย into a werewolf (were-kubrow?) form.ย Brief three-second period of invulnerability on casting. That said, Vulkodlak loses health the longer he's in this form. His claws, however, come with lifesteal, and have higher status and range (but less crit) than Valkyrโ€™s talons.

ย

How To Use:

First off: Self-damage is back, at least for them. But, with Vulkodlak itโ€™s more dependent on percentages of total health than base damage of weaponry. Itโ€™s more about giving you an easy way to build upย Desperationย than encouraging caution. As such, the ideal loadout for Vulkodlak would have at least one weapon with self-stagger equipped. While Iโ€™d personally prefer primaries like the Astilla or Zarr, a good backup secondary would be a Tombfinger kitgun, or the โ€˜Hiroโ€™ sidearm I made up awhile back.

Probably the best weapon to maintain low health with Vulkodlak is his signature weapon, the Poyang, which leaves a pool of fire on whatever it hits. Just stand in that for more energy and more damage.

Secondly, if you donโ€™t build him for Rage or Hunter Adrenaline, you are doing it wrong.ย

While on paper, Vulkodlak may seem to be a better version of Valkyr, this is compensated due to the extreme risk of using Vulkodlak. For maximum effectiveness, Vulkodlak shouldย alwaysย be close to death.

Plus, his 3 gives him a lot of synergy for teams. You could,ย hypothetically,ย use it to help teammates in an Orb fight or Eidolon hunt, but with his heavy melee focus, I donโ€™t know how useful that is. Itโ€™d definitely help out in an Arbitration, Sortie, or high-level Nemesis mission.

I now understand @Teoarrk's feelings completely.

Rest assured, I'm not leaving any time soon, especially when I have two Tenno firearms I can just post whenever I want. I could take a two-to-three-week long sabbatical from this game and none of you would notice!

Anyway. I'm a wee bit disappointed by all the lore I was lead to believe we'd get, particularly involving Tuvul and all the Protokol skins. Wack. I thought that there was going to be some kind of lore drop, some Tuvul voiceover, (they do have a voice actor for him, after all) some hints at the world before the Orokin...

But naw dice.ย

I suppose that's my fault, in part. I built it up beyond what it should be. I will enjoy slapping the machine pistol skin on my Rattleguts skin and using the Webley Revolver skin on... something, perhaps. Not sure what. I know, I've been very subtle about it, but I've wanted a relatively comprehensible top-break revolver in this game for awhile.

DEPEZADOR PRIME 2020 REMASTER

The goal was to create a reward for those who fought in the Battle of the Keeler Gap. Haruka herself fought there, and as such she used it as an opportunity to create a perfect weapon for herself - andย โ–ˆฬทฬฬ†ฬ•อ ฬŒอ˜อ˜ฬฬ‰ฬฬ€อ™ฬผฬบโ–ˆฬถฬ‰ฬ“อ…ออ…โ–ˆฬตอ อ›ฬŒฬนฬ–ฬฎฬณฬžฬ™อฬฑโ–ˆฬทอ’ฬฑฬปฬฐฬณฬŸฬฏฬงโ–ˆฬถอ„ฬ“ฬŒฬˆฬฬ•อฬ•อฬ„ฬŒฬ‘ฬญฬฌฬณอˆฬ—อšโ–ˆฬถฬ›อ„อ’อƒฬ‰อŠฬˆอ›ฬฆฬ—โ–ˆฬธฬ’อˆอ•ฬฉฬขอฬฃฬ™อ“, amused by her ideas, worked with her.

The result was the Depezador Prime. Thanks to a ballistic analysis computer mounted under the shotgun barrel, headshots with this weapon increase the critical multiplier by 18% additively, for a total of a 90% bonus critical damage. With its original 3.0 critical multiplier and primed mods, this can bring it up to 9 times the critical multiplier. Body shots do not affect the meter at all, but missed shots cause it to decrease, much like on the Arca Scisco. It decreases after about 3 seconds, however. Also like the Arca Scisco, the number of stacks that can be added are capped at one per shot. The critical damage bonus goes to each round in the multishot, though.

Three headshots willย alsoย recharge its secondary fire, a wide spray of Cryotic-infused buckshot with spread similar to that of the Euphona Prime. This is accomplished through Entrati Siphon technology. This is also capped at one per shot.

Each reload comes pre-loaded with one shotgun shell, so you could just reload it to activate it. This ALWAYS has a chance to inflict a cold effect, no matter the build. While itโ€™s absolutely possible to kill something with shotgun mode, the point of shotgun mode is less for killing and more for slowing down enemies to open them up for easier headshots. You only get one shotgun round per magazine, so use it well.

Headshots with the shotgun also increase the critical multiplier of primary fire... but they don't add to the critical damage of the shotgun. It's just not a good idea. I don't want to be responsible for the underbarrel shotgun having nearly 9x crit.

While other Tenno sidearms such as the Lex series, Largo, Euphona, Naga, and Makina seemingly outstrip it, few things can compete with the Depezadorโ€™s damage after sustained headshots.

...Except the Estampida on one headshot. It has aย lotย of headshot damage. Crazy headshot damage.

One of its greatest weaknesses, in a way, is its high fire rate. It has high recoil due to the flaws of its top-break frame, so itโ€™s easy to miss follow-up shots.ย It doesnโ€™t take TOO long to recover accuracy though. About 0.4ย seconds. Firing before accuracy has recovered will increase the time to totally recover.ย Accuracy recovery isnโ€™t really something warframe has dealt with, so Iโ€™m not really sure here. The recoil isโ€ฆ mostly vertical.

With its combo mechanic and cryotic shotgun, this weapon quickly earned a fearful reputation among the Sentient vanguard that made their way to the Origin System. Its high damage and crit would overwhelm a Sentient's last few resistances, and its cryotic shotgun would hold them in place for a Tenno to attack them in melee combat - or simply just headshot them even more.ย

It was a common sight among Orokin-era officers, particularly Dax soldiers - some of whom would use it to execute criminals, traitors, and "underperforming" Grineer.

Artist Notes
Okay, so this is the third time I've redrawn this. It's meant to use all my current artistic expertise to make it look even BETTER!

A lot more thought went into how the stats work. As with last time, I still I wanted a powerful revolver (I like revolver) that rewarded my frenetic, headshot-heavy gameplay style. However, this ran the risk of being too broken, if it didn't have any recoil.
ย As such, I added a bit of stat tweaking to keep people from spamming it. If you fire it before it's settled, you miss the combo and it comes tumbling down. It will be frustrating, but it'll feel worth it to see those huge numbers.

Plus, the starting damage is pretty good - not top-tier, but good - so you can spam it if you want.

Ironically, this was meant as a mid-road balancing my love of Akvasto Prime and Pandero, but this was taking the Pandero's pre-nerf 30% crit 15% status stats into account, so now this is even stronger than I intended. Whoops.

I think this would be extremely fun for Harrow and Frost mains! Or really, anyone with an ability to slow or stop enemies. And, if you're playing a frame that doesn't, that's what the shotgun is for. The "can always proc cold" thing is meant to be more conducive to the current Viral meta. Back when I added this,ย
everyoneย did corrosive, so it made sense at the time.

Speaking of the shotgun. While it might be cool to add the crit damage gimmick to it, it just... it wasn't a good idea. I wantย  people to work to bring this up to acceptable power levels, but Iย
don'tย want them to have something so overpowered.

The ideal Exilus mod for this weapon would likely be Stabilizer or Target Acquired (for the shotgun).

I have no idea what the thing over the hammer does, but presumably this is still a relatively functional double-action.. Or the extra hammer-looking thing over the cylinder. Though I do know the sights are inside of it. The first thing was just added to shake up the silhouette and reference Mortarion's "Lantern" pistol from Warhammer 40k, which noticeably resembles a revolver. The second thing was added to reference the Kinetic Destroyer revolver pistols used by the Custodes. Which weirdly resemble the Lantern. They just...ย
haveย this second-hammer-looking thing above the cylinder. I figured it'd also shake up the silhouette so... why not.

Will post the two inspirations behind a lot of the rework later!

I know, I've been very subtle about it.

Though I won't have much of a reason to go to the Circulus or Yuvarium in the neat future (except to build the Sarofang and Perigale) Iย willย admit that I like how the Lone Guardian gives you a reason not to turtle, (we have all these movement abilities! (Heh. She's from the moon and I'm coloring her like Loona. that's funny.)

I also checked out some of the weapon rebalancing changes. I do like the Vasto series changes (a little surprised we're not changing the Lex Prime's stats, but I suppose that since that thing isย extremelyย accessible, maybe that's for the best) but I do kinda miss the high rate of fire on my single Vasto Prime cause I could get a lot out of it. To the point I didn't add on Lethal Torrent, so I could add on heat damage.

Ah, well. I think I'll just get used to using it as a handcannon instead of a spammy gun.ย

Surprisingly, I don't see myself doing that many changes to any of the pistols. The Vasto prime "only" does 110 damage, and that actually fits surprisingly well in the "magnum pistol" category that I heavily balanced between the Pandero Prime and Lex Prime. (I see the Lex Prime as a sort of ceiling for pistols.) Strangely enough, I also don't have much to do, fire rate wise - I was downsizing the fire rate so they felt more slow and impactful.

...Though I did change the damage on the Depezador Prime and Naga to 99 and 126, respectively. They were pretty okay in their respective niches, if the "Magnum pistol" niche is where it is now. They just needed very tiny nudges forwards.

I should redraw the Naga.

I also like how the fire modes are actually different not just changed crit and status chance and maybe a difference in damage depending on the fire mode, I really wish more weapons did what you did with the Ogoun Prime. I also like the lore for it being a test bed to show off how many different features you can cram into a single gun,

I think this and the Tarvoss are some of my favorite weapons that you have made, though it's honestly hard to pick since most of your work is great.

ย  Aggghhhh, really makes me wanna solve my sleep schedule now more than ever! I think itโ€™s by-and-large the reason why my work has been most scrambled as of late projectswide. All I do is complain about it as of. . . forever, but, what can I do but ta. . . BAH dem it, enough about me.

I have to get into the latest update and see what Iโ€™m m. . . dem it, thatโ€™s about me to!

ย If it comes down to it, perhaps you just need a small vacation from it all, sooth the disappointment sting, feel refreshed. Perhaps delve deep into the world of Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel to relax?
