Ability Cooldowns.

I'm kind of shocked at how much digging I had to do to find a single person suggest this in an unrelated thread...

Jeez, but as it is now - pure dmg skills are waste of time and energy and in some cases are just a sure way to die. Guns outperforms skills, which is kinda bad IMO.

Its not a whine thread - I main Nyx and in current metagame she is perfectly fine with redunculus crowd controll and gunblazing. But I can already see how Nova, Volt, Mag, Banshee will suffer in higher lvl content or will be forced to use 1-2 utility skills out of their whole set.

If devs had problems with Ult spamming being anoying - why not just for example get rid of spheres, which allow infinite kill-spamms vs amassed groups, and introduce Mass Effect style cooldowns? (Yes I know devs told something that they had such system in mind and they got rid of it - but c-mon DE is know for making drastic changes in gameplay (artifacts hur-dur))

All skills cause global cooldown on powers - but small skills cause a CD of 5 seconds, mid tier -15 seconds, ults 30-45 seconds.

Done - you can spamm small skills every few seconds, or can unleash ult but be locked from powers for a moderate time.

As it is - devs need to address the abusement of AoE clearing ults in early\mid game and at the same time lack of power in high tier encounters.

To do so they need to normalize spamming, so we cant just use ult everything on demand, and at the same time they need to pump enough power in skills that Ultimates will still be your "Final argument" no matter what.

I know thats hard to do, but dont you agree that if done right - combat system will shine as never before?

Minus the part about getting rid of energy spheres and this is a better suggestion than what I was thinking anyway. Also I don't think they should have shared cd so it could encourage the use of previously abandoned and underused abilities.

Seriously, the 3/4 defense missions turn out to be me sitting next to the objective to make sure some random run-away mob doesn't solo it because I know the other 2-3 members are going to be having e-peen sword fights over who can spam their 1-button map wiping powers the most effectively to get the highest end-mission kill count and bonus exp.

If they didn't have to protect the pod each of them could and probably would just solo. In non-defense it's basically the same thing except now there's a 'race' aspect, the early bird gets the prize. Or dies. Depending on how stupid they are.

What's worse is that almost all of the people that do it think they're 'carrying' the team and drop out as soon as they think they can't solo the mission anymore. It really sucks the life and charm out of the game imo.

Would like to see more opinions or just general comments on this.

Didn't read it all due to the time here, but no. Just no.

The thing about MASSEFFECT multiplayer was just surviving. You had things like a cover system (invincible unless flanked) and stuff like OHK rockets you just BUY every time you are in the lobby. Do NOT bring something like ME3 gameplay into this game, ever.

So cool down system for abilities?

Original? No

Did anyone like it the first 30 times? No

Inb4 rage? Yes

Saying something like "Inb4 rage" is just trolling, I don't know who you're expecting to be upset, but we aren't all children here.

Clear room, wait for cd before entering next room. That's why no

Not really sure why this means no, it sounds like a hypothetical instance of how someone who refuses to kill enemies with anything but their 1-button map wiper would cope with the change, not so much as why it's a bad idea. Also you can just edit your post if you forgot to mention something in the first one...

If they put in ability cool downs they would have to retune the entire game. Again. And we all know how well they've managed that in the past.

I can't say I'm an experienced programmer or anything yet, but the concept seems very simple... could you elaborate on why it would require so much collateral adjustment?

Eh, I wouldn't compare it to ME3, those were the parallels I didn't really agree with either, but for a general cooldown function at least on the 1-button map wipers, I think should have been there from the start.

Though I'm aware the game is tailored for the community and not the individual, which is why I'm looking for other opinions on it.

I never played the CB, but is it that people waited for the cool downs in terms of solo runs or in general? I can barely keep up with how fast individuals go rambo-ing ahead in teamed missions with little need for abilities (not that I don't sometimes end up being that guy), hard to imagine they would come to a screeching halt just because of that lol
