Vortex Hate

Today I was enjoying my new shiny Vauban on Xini(Jesus, he's so good for that kind of missions), alternating Vortex to Bastille while I was trying to get that pucking Banshee helmet BP.

After a few waves one of my teammates asked me(politely, I have to say)to PLEASE STOP USING VORTEX.

I stopped, of course, but I was quite disappointed cause:

- Vortex is funny as hell, the animation is so cool and the effects.............................................................................the animation is soooooooo cool.

- It can stop a huge number of enemies, allowing you to forget them all while you kill the others and to focus on the other access to the pod

- It works almost like Bastille, but it also damages and stuns

- It makes easy collecting mods and mats

On the other side, it has a few disadvantages:

- It affects teammates and player

- ......................

- ......................

- .....................

- Did I say it affects teammates and player?

Now, I know that it's quite annoying to fall in the Vortex and not being able to move properly, really I know it's a problem; but I think the advantages are much more than the disadvantages!

It happened a few times to use Vortex and having just the time to say "OH SHI......." before falling in the blank out of the map or of the platform I was on: if you ask me that was quite funny, but I understand teammates could think otherwise.

What do you guys think? Do you use Vortex anyway or forget it for not being a trouble to teammates?

I can count the number of vortex I used in my fingers since I got my Vaub 3 weeks ago. Pointless unless you loved trolling. But its good that its there since Bastille only cost 75 energy due to vortex is considered vaub's ult :)

(I think I never used bounce at all lol)

Well, they hate it because they move so slow when trapped in a vortex and so they are easy targets for the AI.

Well, that's true, but you're sometimes able to reach higher heights with Vortex than with Bounce. It's also quite hilarious to see a few people floating around in the air.

If there's an allied Vauban using Vortex, then I always run towards the Vortex and abuse it to enjoy myself.

Coordination is the key word here. You can cast it as long as your teammates are fully aware of where you are gonna cast it.

Watch this, Xini wave 55. Vortex + Torid:

Eh... I really dunno why people complain about Vortex. Xini (Or any infested defense) is pretty much the best place to use Vortex.

Guess you didnt watch the live stream, point in case vortex blocked two players from reviving a third as the Vauban dropped a vortex near it.  So remove the Player affect and make it only NPC/items

My clan members also told me is a bit of a pain for them when I use it. Did not bother me until I played a online game and another Vauban joined in and used Vortex. That was it for me, I now understand their frustration.

If you want to kill your team mates, use vortex on Xini

I play with Vauban 99% of the time, I only carry Tesla and Bastille. I don't see a need for Vortex at all.

I don't use it unless a team member asks me to, e.g. to help pull them out of the wall if they get trapped by a revolving door on void missions.

As noted, people hate it because it actually hampers them - at later levels of play it can be beyond useless since it can hinder the team more than help it; allies can't accurately target other enemies or fire on them, and some frames can't even use their abilities in one, it can also keep team members from reviving one another.

I'll make liberal use of Vortex up until say, Wave 10 in Xini (to take one example).

Beyond that I'll confine using it to one particular spot (for example, one of the choke-points on either side of the pod) while I continue to maintain Bastille. In that scenario the only way my team could be caught in the vacuum is if they deliberately made an effort to waltz into it, and if they complain in that scenario I'll tell them where to go, since:

A) I'm not randomly tossing Vortex all over the map, I'm clearly keeping it confined to one spot, whilst providing ample room to take out ragdolled enemies from safe distance. This, therefore, should be a non-concern for anyone who isn't lacking in the common sense department.

B) I'm the one religiously protecting the pod with Bastille while they're usually yahoo'ing all over the place. If they want to continue whinging let's see how they like it when I suddenly 'forget' to use Bastille on a wave that can decimate the objective in seconds.

Interestingly, Vortex seems to have a property that causes weapons like the Ogris to kill things caught in it sometimes instantly, so it's not just for show, either.

Overall, responsible use of Vortex is fine, but irritation from your team is to be expected if you start carelessly tossing it around without warning.

The greatest threat however, is bug. Vortex seems to have high chance of causing bugs. In a normal mission where we may not visit the tile again, it is fine. But on a constant map like defense, sometimes the bug can accumulate until the host dies. One strange one I have seen is the accumulation of unreachable enemies outside the playing area (e.g. under the floor). Every new wave, the accumulated number increases (shown on minimap and also from the way Dethcube keep trying to shoot at the floor non-stop)...

I think Vauban should keep vortex to solo... He is a great frame. Let us maintain a more positive image.

The issue is not with Vortex but with how it is used. If you are throwing it into the center of your group, or an important transit path (let alone the cardinal sin of drawing an incap'd player in) then you're not using it correctly. Placing it in choke points to hold up mobs (while doing some damage) then bravo, you actually applied some basic common sense to the game :)

I totally agree with you!

I wouldn't spam Vortex all over the map, I usually keep it in the same place as the video above, which is damn made for it!

There's a whole remaining map where the other teammates can- it was awesome, how did you say? oh yes- yahoo around without being afflicted from a 5 mt diameter Vortex that will simply close one access to the pod I am defending while they're piling kills and whatever.

I'll keep on practice to be sure I won't upset any teammates, but I won't stop using it!

That's about right.

Simple fix - make it affect only enemies, object, and maybe, the casting Vauban.

Some people like to use Vortex to move around, and I can understand that - before I sold my Vauban, I found some use for reaching high ledges and floating about.

Having my teammates hampered by the slow and inconvenient floatiness was not cool at all. Not to mention (but they've been mentioned already and I'm gonna mention them now nnoooooooooo) the Toxic Ancients.

^

I have died on at least 2 occasions from Vortex preventing teammates from reviving me. It also prevents people from casting abilities in that area as well. If Vortex didn't affect players it would be a good spell.

its a good skills. just choose where you throw it. I have been told to not use nova's ult too much and so on. Its not that big of a deal, players can play around it, you just gota pick the right places to throw it..

I have seen others in the thread pointing out some of the major flaws with vortex affecting teammates...

Let me add one more: Vortex also breaks the skills of some Warframes while they are affected by it. Just try Excaliburs Slash Dash while moonwalking.

Its a troll ability. When everyone is packed into close quarters like xini, and things get intense, thats not the time I feel like messing around and playing with the physics, its a time when Id rather my rhino was actually doing his thing and not floating off like a useless silver balloon.

I'd say stick with bastille. Achieves the same effect, over a wider area without annoying people !
