Arlayn
Yes every time you see my topics it relates back to Dark Sector. Here we go again! The infested as we all know are an infection caused by technocyte virus. A virus with the ability to spread like a fungus it seems as it infects, and changes the form of its host into a monstrous image of their old self. As stated in a livestream a new boss will be coming that I infested, also stated in ingame lore there is a large mass. It is hinted this large mass is an assimilation of many infested coming together. Meaning its possible the soul goal of infested is to spread the virus, and then merge all life into one giant massive infested. However we have yet to see the process of how infested are made, or what they look like before the forms we know as Leaper, Runner and charger the three basic units of the infested army before Ancients. The ancients as we know of them as Toxicant, disruptor, and healer... They have always looked identical except in the past they had different colors (Toxic still looks different) Now were going to hop back thousands of years into the past. The era of Dark Sector. The first of these infected creatures meet are the Howlers This picture above is the first stage of infection for a howler. As seen they retain their human form to some degree with noticeable traits of the infection. Over time later in the game the infection becomes more severe and a more later stage form of howler appears. As seen above now it looks more monstrous more akin to how our runners, and leapers eventually turn into the completely monstrous ancients, BUT no grander change in their abilities. We eventully come across a dog like Infected known as mole It is not mentioned if it is a Dog, or similar to our chargers. It is possible that some infections cause the host to undergo a change that makes them dog like just like how grineer turn into chargers. This could be the genesis of our lovable Chargers that seem to ruin our day sometimes, but the Moles are easy to kill... Chargers are just a pain for us. Possible evolution and upgade by the Orokins? Maybe... Now then... here comes what is in Dark Sector should be in Warframe... Dark Sector had more infected creatures with more fancy abilities. Things that would make the infested more terrifying and advanced compared to the simple enemies we know as just running at us. First we have the Stinger! the stingers were famous for attacking in large groups and leaping across the area rapidly to change positions. Then opening their arms to fire projectiles from their bodies like a shotgun that were very lethal. They were also quite hard to kill. In way they were the elite of the infected forces. During gameplay later in the game they were extremely annoying in large groups as they would move around quickly out of your aim and then start hurling spikes at you from a new location nearly killing you in the process. A grand enemy that the infested environments could use. A leaping infested that gets around fast, and stalks you from above in groups. Then coming down when you least expect it. Sometimes even you could come upon a group of them as you look up knowing bunches of them together all over the ceiling like a family of bats. What a terrifying site that would be. Then there is the Chroma. Identical to the Stingers except they turn invisible. These enemies were just the same with the ability to turn invisible. Now there is something that could ruin your day. Infested that turn invisible on you, leap to a new position to attack from then reappear to start unleashing hell on you with spikes. The Stinger, and Chroma infested versions if they ever do release them would be the only infested with a true long range attack and not swinging a long arm at you. Deadly, dangerous, a true threat for higher level players in the higher level infested levels. Now eventully these infections did create the Colossus, and stalker. The Stalker was an overgrown version of Chroma but very dangerous and 100% lethal as its projectiles killed in one hit. The Colossus was a giant Rhino, might as well have been prototype Rhino gone wrong if anything. Though they could both be considered super ancients, or bosses Stalker would have the highest chance of a reappearance as a boss, while Colossus being a Rhino gone wrong all the players will just simply have to enjoy playing Rhino gone right. I am hoping to see Infested life cycle in the future either as lore, explained, or shown in game. Maybe even new enemies that are just like Stinger, Chroma, and the Stalker added to the roster of terrors amongst the infested armies.
Mampara
Dark Sector is great. I really feel infested need to have a lot more and I agree with you on seeing more Lore. +1 Edit: Going to follow this thread hopefully people take their time reading the post. Good luck OP. Letter13
Would love to see more infested types based off of Dark Sector. Maybe that invisible one; they lay in wait in a room, after all other infested have been killed they slowly sneak up on unsuspecting Tenno. Arlayn
Would be nice to see contribution from all of the community on Infested... they still feel lackluster. You walk into an infested level sometimes you get the game over man game over moment from aliens but it requires more terror to it... The Infested need to be feared. The grineer are feared for their ability to overwhelm if allowed to clump up therefore better vantage points is key, while bottlenecking is key to killing corpus, and being up high is key to killing infested, but if infested had jumpers that leapt along the walls, and turned invisible, and threw spikes at you. Would change how we see them to being more of a horror type enemy, then just another random kill it all with a turret type defense. I want to see what others have to say about them. We could make the infested HQ thread lol.... Edited July 25, 2013 by Arlayn

LeucienWeaver
Alright, now I agree wholeheartedly, Arlayn, but i'm going to take a different approach to the Infested... Sometime during the time between Warframe and Dark Sector the TCV mutated, going from a touch-spread virus in the form of nanites that replicate and burrow into the host's flesh, before dying after certain replication cycles and forming metallic armor, to doing much the same with flesh as a medium... This much is known. What also seems to change is the fact that we've got enemies in both games that strike as 'leaders', J3/Phorid vs Stalker/Colossus... What if sometime between the two eras, the 'leaders' forsake some of their survivability in the form of armor and speed, and instead opted for psychic powers, giving way to a new Hive Mind mentality, as confirmed by Cedric earlier today(Regarding hive mind), which could explain why, up until the new Infested boss, we haven't seen anything on the scale of Mezner, Colossus, or anything else. Well I guess both the ideas of Orokin having modified them, and them just evolving over thousands of years both work... because give or take if evolution must happen it will happen over the course of a thousand years. If it feeds on the living and assimilates others with a call similar to Mezner it is possible for it to have the intelligence to evolve itself to meet the needs of the future hunger. Well, the Orokin are a bit of a paradox, aren't they? Some are saying that they made the technocyte/Proto-Warframes, which just feels... Odd, as that would mean that the Orokin are mad American scientists... Others say they're aliens that came down a few centuries after Dark Sector, which also feels odd, as that means that they'd only find the remnants of the human race, and no Tenno to speak of, since they would have all died out. Orokin, to me, are exactly like the Tenno. TCV infested beings that have molded the plague to benefit them, though for different reasons compared to the Tenno. Where the Tenno are the warriors and the soldiers, the Orokin would be the scholars, and the researchers. This fits in rather well with how the Void is; A research lab and library, equipped with defenses that ignore Tenno, aside from the brainwashed units that we fight, all equipped with an Orokin Control Module; A peaceful people's way of dealing with threats, traps and protectors. Atlas_Smirked
depends on how much they can change to avoid copyright issues. Nice pictures though. What? DE made Dark Sector. ============= Those stingers need to able to wall run. Imagine: You notice a shadow pass overhead. When you look up you see a blur-you know it's there, something is there, but it's moving to fast to tell. You push it out of your mind and keep going. Then you see something leap past your screen ahead. *It's coming* As you enter the next room the lights go out. Then you see three, four, of these things running along the walls and jumping back and forth firing all the while. You try to run but they hunt you down. From above. Arlayn
INFESTED WARFRAMES oh wait stalker The Tenno might be partially infested with some control...(which explains the you are our flesh deal) the warframes... maybe they as well? Stalker isn't the only antagonistic warframe we have. There's also Nemesis. She was partially infested as well hence why she was being controlled by Mezner, but she was very powerful more powerful then Stalker it seems. Nemesis looks amazing. She is amazing... depends on how much they can change to avoid copyright issues. Nice pictures though. What copy right issues? Digital extemes made the game and so far they moved characters like Excalibur over, and the weapon glaive over. I think Digital extremes owns a good sum of the game vs. D3. You mean the Stalker? Because that enemy type's name is called Stalker. Enemy type is called Chroma, the boss version was called Stalker. Why do you have to quote the whole thread just to post that? He loved it that much Nice ideas and good suggestions for the future of the infected. But the stalker is NOT an infected.... He is working for someone else. Maybe the Sentience .I have never seen infected using mics to tell someone that the job is done..... The old stalker is an infested... the new one could be some bio-engineered weapon the Orokin made similar to the Stalker from Dark Sector... there could be a story echo. Who knows Dark Sector was supposed to be Warframe they even had trailers, levels, heck even trinity was there. So what Dark Sector had become on release may have had some echos of a past story identical to ours. Maybe even Stalker had more lore before. He might be an infested that was made highly advanced and intelligent just like Stalker in Dark Sector used the old man as bait for Hayden. What? DE made Dark Sector. ============= Those stingers need to able to wall run. Imagine: You notice a shadow pass overhead. Briar_Wolf
I feel that the Infested need a some ranged attacks. As it is Bastille completely shuts them down. I'd personally prefer that not to happen. As grindy as this game can be, I love how separate the factions are. Especially the infested. They always get close, they swarm. It's like a giant tidal wave trying to engulf you. I'd be afraid if they added "ranged" infested, we'd lose that individuality, similar to how close the grineer and corpus are - with the exception of the moa and the osprey, both of those factions run around like idiots and blindly shoot. I don't want the "scary" faction to turn into something like that.
