Gigatron-Prime
The discussion thus far is that some people want a female/male version of each warframe, be it with different skills, the same skills, or just a completely new theme. Well, to give you an idea what that may be, I give you what most have overlooked. The first alternate gendered warframe: Excalibur and Nyx It's no secret by now (if you've kept up since closed beta or just notice the models' details) that Nyx was at first a female version of Excalibur. However, this was scrapped, and instead they repurposed and marketed this former female Excalibur as a completely different warframe with a different theme. She still retains the same model and textures that show her origins. So, you can look at Nyx and Excalibur as seperate gendered warframes going with the differing theme route. So to those that constantly scream and cry for a male or female version of said warframe, look at what may be the closest example of that right now. Nyx and Excalibur. To give another hypothetical example like the one mentioned; Frost warframe- male, ice theme: female, necro theme Utilizing the same warframe and textures, but vastly differing themes just like Nyx and Excalibur. Omegarick
Some people just want to have the same abilities just as a different sex. DE has made it CLEAR that they aren't going to do this, which I agree with.

EagleRise
Excalibur and Nyx are both based on the 2 frames in Dark-sector yes, the one Nyx is based on is actually a woman.they are not a male and female forms of the same frame.

Both frames are obviously from Dark Sector, but in warframe, they played around with gendered warframes with those two. I don't really care how it goes, but I really wouldn't mind if they just followed suit with the Nyx and Excalibur example if they ever decide to appease those that cry for gendered warframes. Gh0st_Slay3r
I dont see why people want gender swaps anyway. It will just take up more time of the character designers and modelers to make the opposite gender when they could be working on new warframes with different abilities. Luxangel7
Misleading thread title is misleading. Was expecting proof. You know, cuz you say you have it. You're lucky the downvote system is gone or this would've been bombed down to oblivion. And I don't mean the cool new movie with Tom Cruise in it. Actually, what they said they might do would be more work/the same thing with making male/female equivalents with different skills. It seems like extra steps just to dance around the issue. Also I actually do not want to see too many new warframes or else you might see a LOL syndrome start to pop up where new characters are just outright better than old ones or visa versa. Noogums
Excalibur and Nyx have contrast/compliments in their powers.Excalibur is master of blade, the man's man, the driving force, the head.Nyx is the manipulator. The cunning female with her wiles, the neck. They are a satirical representation of a couple.Frost and Necro.. No.
Letter13
Some people want alternate gender frames because they're insecure about playing this gender or that gender. Some guys find it insulting that they "should have to" play as a female character to get certain abilities... And some girls find.... wait... I haven't seen a single female player complain about having to play a male character. Ever. In any game. Jeez. Men can be so insecure. Lighten up. Don't treat females frames as if they're "you." Think of them as a character in a movie running around kicking &#!, and you get to watch them (and their fine behinds) the whole while. *eyeroll*
Seraphyx
Excalibur and Nyx as an example doesn't fit at all. Visually maybe they are somewhat similar but gameplay-wise they are absolutely nothing alike. When people are asking for opposite gender warframes they are talking about a duplicate warframe (powers, stats, everything) with the opposite gender not a frame that looks similar but plays completely differently. But my gf for example do prefer playing as female characters and would very much like a female vauban, frost, etc. However, just like most males she's fine with playing the male frames as is - she just doesn't prefer it. :) Somehow, I don't think she's the only one and you still have to remember the majority of players in Warframe are likely male (as in the industry as a whole); thus their comments and opinions will be overrepresented in forums, game etc. :) Edited July 26, 2013 by Apostus

Letter13
You haven't looked hard enough. Okay some female players might prefer to play female frames/characters, but I've never found or met one that is so adamant about the 'lack of a male/female character' that they refuse to play a game. Well, to be fair you have a point. But my gf for example do prefer playing as female characters and would very much like a female vauban, frost, etc. However, just like most males she's fine with playing the male frames as is - she just doesn't prefer it. :) Preferring not to and refusing to are two different things. I prefer to play as male characters, but do I refuse to play female characters and boycott the game? Nope. Do I think DE should make alternate genders for every frame? I don't think they should, and I don't think they shouldn't. Would I go out of my way to get male variants of the female frames? No. Not worth the effort. He's shouldn't see them unless he's looking for them. I guess I could sort of understand it if this were, for instance, Lollipop Chainsaw, wherein the lead character is practically designed as a sex symbol; but Warframe? Really? They're suits of armor, people. Edited July 26, 2013 by Atheau

Apostus
Preferring not to and refusing to are two different things. Of course it is, and there will always be people that take an extreme stance but it doesn't make some concerns less valid. All the frames have different playstyles and options (more or less); but why should anyone be forced to play as a certain gender in order to enjoy their preferred playstyle? It's even more important when it comes to girls being forced to play as guys (in my personal opinion) as games in general feature a vast majority of male protagonists and few female ones. Would you enjoy having to play a female in every game you play? Some males would, absolutely, but others would feel playing as a female Duke Nukem would be very strange. Now we have a game with options, I fully acknowledge that, and I fully acknowledge that most can play as a frame regardless of the frames' gender; however, wouldn't it feel a bit tiresome if almost every protagonist you met in the gaming world was female and when you finally find a game where there is a choice your specific playstyle wasn't supported (i.e. Rhino's more tanky/heavy style) as your preferred gender? Again, you'd be forced to play a female (as we're using 'opposite land' as an example) instead of a male if you wish to play your preferred gameplay style. Now, I fully understand why DE wishes to have every frame unique, why they choose not to incorporate both genders on every frame and I respect and accept that decision. It's fine. I'm just saying, that we all need to see the other side of the coin as well and understand why people want frames to have both genders. Now I'm not saying that my above example is the only reason, nor the correct one, anyone would play a specific gendered frame, but it's still important to respect those that wishes for it and, foremost, understand that we have an industry which generally do not support female protagonists. In fact, we have a climate where investors can 'ask' (and I use that term loosely) a company to change the gender on their main character to sell more copies. EDIT: At that, it wouldn't be much work for DE (in theory) to add different skins for the frames as it's simply a graphical change. The same abilites would mean that the frames are balanced, so no need for that, the animation and skeletons are already ingame on different frames and you could use pretty much the same 'extra helmets'. However, it's important to understand that while the above is probably true, it would take focus off other things this game needs and DE develops. Thus, it is likely DE focus their resources and energy elsewhere - a priority that is very likely sound. When DE has the time, if they will have the time, they'd prefer to make unique frames on the same theme if I recall, which imo is better - as long as it supports similar playstyles to the male/female frames already ingame.
