In Regards To The Ability Energy Colour Diminishment

All of the recent hotfix was great except one thing: You needed to make ability energy colour BETTER, not WORSE. I can see adding a slider that makes your individual energy brighter/darker, but as for me, I want energy that glows as bright as possible.

Example:

In the background here ^ the ring of fire from Ember's ability is the brightest orange I can make it. This is BEFORE today's update. I wanted orange, not some washed out peachy colour. Fire is not peachy.

This image ^ is the same ability viewed through I think Vauban's Vortex, which slightly saturates the colours on your screen when you walk near it. THIS is how setting energy to orange should look, firey and awesome.

Now with this new update, you've toned down energy even more, so pretty much everything looks as washed out as the first image. Please give us the option to change it back, or like I said, give a slide. Also I think that particular Ember ability (the 3rd ability, can't remember the name), is in need of addressing anyway because with the energy colour I have, all her other abilities look (or looked) amazing and bright, it's just the fire ring that has low saturation.

Also on the topic of energy, using Red energy could use some tweaks when it comes to abilities-- it's a slight pinkish colour rather than straight red and pushing it a little to the right on the colour chart would be much appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Yeah, they keep wrecking the Energy color, and it's really disappointing.

The colors simply aren't as saturated as they should be. Why is it the dark purples, dark blues and dark reds of the Saturated color pack are about as saturated for Energy as the Classic color pack? I mean, seriously. I know what saturated looks like, and that's anything but.

And now, as you pointed out, the colors are completely washed out, there's barely even a hint of glow (even with the bloom turned on), and it just looks bad. I'd rather wear sunglasses when seeing explosions as opposed to this.

I would prefer a client-side slider in the options menu called "Glow Intensity", where people with issues can just pull it down a few notches, and those of us with no issues for colorfulness can ramp it up even further.

decided to throw a couple shurikens as ash, i'm using saturated yellow... let me tell you greyish yellow is not a pretty color.

there's also almost no yellow color to his smokescreen now either.

this new energy color just removes the WOW factor from warframe.

just because ONE warframe can nuke the screen with the brightest of colors doesn't mean everything else should suffer for it.

edit: a color slider for energy color intensity would be really nice and appreciated.

@CamelSlayer: Those shots are all bloom-enabled. Even more depressing now, ain't it?

Like I was saying, and ScropDK hit it right on the head-- a client side slider so for US we can have it bright (and hell, maybe even brighter than before on max slider setting) and then everyone else who's got a problem with it can make their game look ugly *cough* I mean look better.

I really really really don't like the change on the energy colour. I used to use the black from the smoke colours pack on my ember. Whenever I used World on Fire I really liked how it didn't glow bright and that I could actually see the orbs flying around me. Now the pure black has changed it to look like actual fire. If I wanted to do that I would have picked orange, red or yellow... not black. The only reason I made ember in the first place was because I thought the black energy looked badass. I am very disappointed and I hope that DE changes it back.

I just tried that and lo and behold, it actually does make it look like real fire. Not sure what it was before, but despite the fact that having it look so red and firey is awesome, black should be black-- make your fire black (although again, the energy colours should be tweaked so making something black or another extremely saturated colour doesn't compromise the details of the energy and make the abilities look flatter)

I agree with the slider. I have a nova warframe. I loved having her molecular prime a bright yellow that looked like the sun exploded when the enemies blew up. But now it just looks like piss. literally. Please give us the option to add more saturation and brightness at the client level.

Agreed, please bring back the bright brilliant energy colors. I use a saturated magenta for most of my frames, now it's really washed out. Like a pink shirt I've washed one too many times.

I don't know about you guys but the brilliant flashes of color were never a problem to me. Quite the opposite, in fact it was one of the draws of the game. It contributed to the game's unique look. Now Warframe looks one step closer to generic sci-fi shooter.

Same @Echoes83

I was often amused at how bright everything was. Felt like a ninja rave party of death :P

Lol, space ninja raves! Also bump, today's hotfix isn't really an acceptable compromise in my opinion. It's better than the dullness of yesterday, but it would still be best to revert to the bright rave colors. When I choose saturated pink for my mag's energy, it should be bright as all get out (like it was). Not this wierd heat distortion looking effect with a pinkish glow on Mag's arm.

Appreciate the feedback. It's definitely been tricky finding a happy medium with these custom colors, it's all about keeping them vibrant without burning those retinas (a lot of players are sensitive to this). If you find specific powers are lacking with the recent change, feel free to post them here.

@Vaen: do you have any say on the client-side intensity slider that has mentioned multiple times on this thread? As was said before, I think that would be in the best interests of pleasing everyone so that people who don't like the brightness can dull it, and those of us without a problem and want maximum brightness can set it to maximum intensity.

Nova in particular has very color-dependent powers.

Before the change, a lot of the gold and orange colors came out as a nice fiery appearance. Applying them to Nova and Ash made the particles look very nice.

For example, here's some color ramps that I made as an example to how the colors look(ed), with Nova as a reference. This is probably quite relevant to other warframes like Ember. I'm using colors from the 'Classic Saturated' pallet.

Golden color before 9.3:

After:

Pink color before 9.3:

After:

I've also noticed that some colors responded well to the update, such as red:

Red color before 9.3:

After:
wfnred.png

I suspect that some colors benefit from lower luminosity (by becoming darker), while others become more dull and desaturated.

I can see why some colors, such as pink, may be regarded as too bright, but maybe there would be a better way to change the intensity of the colors? Whatever method that was used had a severely detrimental effect to how a lot of the colors look.

I noticed that too-- reds looked like S#&$ unless you were trying to go for a crimson that had a a miniscule amount of blue added. Not pure red. Hopefully they can revamp a lot of the colours to be really nice looking.
