Maddoc
I know this is still a new addition to the game, but there really needs to be a better spread of abilities, or better randomization of abilities, or some abilities ought to be "weighted". Maybe a point based system so that NM mode assigns say ten "points" worth of modifiers, and for example something like No Shields would be 4 points, while Low Grav would be 1 point, etc. Just spitballing off the top of my head here. Actually telling people what the modifiers are when the mission begins would also be a welcome change. Every single NM I've run today has been roughly the same set of modifiers. Low Grav, No Shields, Energy Drain. The only variation I've seen today is whether there is a Timer, or Health Vamp modifier. I also still have not seen any weapon restriction modifiers, despite the patch notes claiming those to be fixed. Energy Drain in particular I feel like it doesn't really add a meaningful challenge so much as it makes the game less fun. Ability use is fairly limited as is, so when you pick up an orb and a few seconds later you have not enough energy to use any abilities it's less of a fun challenge and more of a mild frustration. Kyte
Well this is a pretty good summary of the current problems with NM. Also: Try Nightmare Defense with Vampire, Energy Drain and No Shields. Have fun~

Maddoc
The community complains it's too easy then complain it's too hard. Community logic. It's not really about it being too easy or hard. Or at least that's not the point I'm trying to make. I do feel like certain modifiers are more "potent" than others, but what I'm more interested in seeing is more and better randomization of modifiers so that the experience is more varied. SorainRavenshaw
I have to agree, at least telling me what the modifications are when I start would be nice. The instant I see that I have no radar on an exterminate mission I cringe and consider forfeiting. (Not because I can't do it, but because I have better things to do with my time.) The no shield effect is significantly more frustrating to learn about then anything else.Energy Drain feels lame, but at least I can see it.No objective data is just being mean guys.No radar is frustrating, but outside of the getting lost factor I don't mind it.Vampire by itself is fine, Vampire no shields is horrific unless you happen to be playing Rhino (and its still scary if you have energy drain at the same time.)That being said, its a very new system so I'm pretty patient at the moment for improvement on it. The no shield effect is significantly more frustrating to learn about then anything else. I want to start by saying that I love the Nightmare modes, they're fun, they make the game more difficult and exciting, especially for those of us that have been playing for a while. That said, I feel the issue is that the effects of missions in general are totally hidden until we start. Things could be greatly improved with either the addition of a notification window. IE - You mouse over the planet and it says "The cryo-core is malfunctioning" or "The base is under assault" or "Grineer Techs have installed shield disruptors" then maybe mods like Warm Coat would see more action. Having this feature would give people time to prep for Nightmare modes to the point where they would at least be able to enjoy the content instead of ending up completely frustrated. In the mean time, a few tips for people reading this thread. - Do not take Flow. In Energy Drain maps, the drain is a percentage of your maximum energy potential. If your energy is under 150, you can actually maintain a fair energy pool if you have Energy Siphon on. - Always bring a Frost (or go all Loki and Ash). If you get No Shields, Snow Globe is pretty much your only hope. - Bring Ammo boxes. You will probably use them.
Kyte
Rhino with Focused Iron Skin can also handle No Shields pretty decently.
