Alad V's Zanuka Project

So when you enter Themisto Jupiter, Lotus starts off with this line : " Too many tenno have perished for Alad V's project and he must be stopped blah blah blah"

Question is... Alad only dismembers their Warframes right? Just like in his trailer.

And as seen in The War Within, when the Warframes get destroyed / tampered with / pierced in the neck, only the Tenno's transference powers are affected, the tenno don't actually die.

So what is Lotus talking about? Is she talking about Ordis' Purge Precept? So as a result Ordis kills the tenno right? Not Alad

Don't bump, especially when the last comment is only 8 minutes old.

We don't know what can happen to Tenno who are still dreaming if their warframes are destroyed. Since it's a rather old script and the current tenno were not fleshed out yet, it can be seen as a hole in the lore, but until we find out what happens to those who are still dreaming, we can't say anything for certain.

The Sacrifice update next year might shine some light on this.

We know that when a frame goes into bleedout your operator may say something about feeling pain. For Tenno who are still in stasis and truly believe they are the frame they could easily die from the shock of being dismembered.

Basically it's because they've been making up the lore as they went.  At the beginning of Second Dream, the one talking to Stalker says "You cut off their heads, yet they rise again.  Their heart, their essence is hidden from you."  Or something fairly close to that.  Implying that part of what makes Tenno such devastating warriors is that they can't truly die - destroy the Warframe, and the Tenno can repair it, or replace it with another.  It's really unclear though, since the original lore for Valkyr was that she was driven insane as Alad V tore her apart.  (Later undermined by Valkyr Prime looking like the flayed version, and not the supposedly "factory standard" Gersemi skin.)  It's why Valkyr is still the only Warframe with a distinctly human sounding voice though.  The torment she lived through is apparently part of the nature of the Warframe now.

It's also implied in the quests that the Warframe and Operator can *both* die, under unusual circumstances.  The quests for Limbo and Mirage both hint that the originals were obliterated - Limbo when he miscalculated his dimension hoping and scattered his bits across the entire solar system.  The original Mirage was apparently torn to shreds by the Infestation.  The lore for Gara is that she allowed herself to be annihilated in a desperate bid to trick the Eidolon into devouring her, so that she could get the Unnum's light bomb inside it.  (If you noticed the massive Sentient spires across the water, to the left of the Cetus gates?  *That* is the body of Eidolon.  All the bones scattered in the plains were just fragments of it, sort of how the ones skulking around Lua are just shards of Hunhou.)

Essentially, Tenno are immortal.  Until the story requires that they aren't.

The Excalibur, Rhino, Ember, and Mag Codex entries bed to differ. DE foreshadowed the events of the Second Dream years before it released.

Mind you, the Animation Director (now Art Director) Geoff said on the very first question of Devstream #1 that they wanted to do cinematic quests to explore the origins of the Tenno.

I hate when people think DE just make things up. They have a story bible they go by - it sits in the Creative Director's office. It's just taken time to, in their words, "do (the story) justice."

And if they were totally consistent with their lore, I'd probably believe that.  Valkyr Prime begs to differ though.  The codex for Excalibur says that the Warframes were the result of a void accident, but it's written in a way that could *also* indicate that the person corrupted with Void energy was actually converted into the first Excalibur.  (It can also be read as another nod to Dark Sector, since Excalibur was apparently at least inspired by the design of the main character.)  Mag Prime's entry doesn't indicate anything, except to generally describe how she looked, and what it was like for one grunt to fight alongside her for about a minute and a half before getting mostly killed to death.  The Rhino Prime entry is a little closer, but mostly just seems to say that Infested fear the Ten Zero survivors more than they want to devour people.  Which doesn't contradict the impression from Excalibur's entry that the Ten Zero survivors are equally terrifying monstrosities, but twisted by void corruption rather than technocyte plague.

They do make stuff up as they go.  Maybe not everything, but enough.  Someone with more patience and attention to detail than me can probably make a pretty decent list of stuff that's been retconned or outright deleted as they've made new additions or changed existing game mechanics.  Not to mention systems like Kuva Siphons and Rivens which apparently *should* be part of the story, but the story got dropped because of design issues, and "meh, they can just check the wiki."

It's even apparent in the design of the Warframes that their idea of what Tenno are has changed over time.  The original Warframes all look like people wearing form fitting armor suits.  Over time, they've more obviously inhuman looking, with Nekros, Inaros and Octavia making it pretty clear there is no possible way that someone is wearing them as an outfit.

To refute your points:

Valkyr Prime was designed incorrectly. This was admitted by Mynki, the original Art Director for Warframe, who designed Valkyr Prime before he left the company. He admitted this on his final Devstream, and was further corroborated by Steve, the Creative Director. Valkyr should not have boxes on her arms, because Ballas would have no way to see into the future and know the Gersemi Valkyr would be torn apart by the Corpus.

Mag Prime's Codex foreshadowed the addition of Archwing. While not an incredible piece of evidence as it was added later, it existed nonetheless.

Rhino Prime telegraphed the SD's reveal by years. We all know the story of the SD; Rhino's entry, I suspect, was their first attempt at revealing the truth. We just weren't able to see the forest for the trees at that point. Remember the end of the entry - how the Rhino changes personalities when it enters the room, and begins staring at its hands. The entry came out long before the SD, but covered the exact same plot points.

Remember that we still don't know for sure what a Warframe truly is - but we have many clues sprinkled throughout the game. The end of the SD, Ballas' many monologues, as examples. The Sacrifice quest is supposed to clear that question once and for all.

Kuva Siphons are part of the story. I don't know why you say they aren't. They're a continuation of the War Within.

Riven mods were specifically stated by Steve to have been tied, in lore, to the original creator of mods. They were forced to scrap the storyline due to development bandwidth taken entirely by the War Within. It's a shame, really. I can only suspect how many elements in Warframe's design which are held back by DE's small size and bandwidth.

Warframe designs have changed over time for a number of reasons. The original 8 were all designed by one man - a commissioned artist not part of DE at the time. That's why they all looked so similar and, mind, they also had many working models of the designs from when Warframe was still Dark Sector back in '06. You can look at the original trailers and see Trinity and Rhino, along with Excalibur, in the cinematics. Beyond those 8, many Warframes, the best examples being Nova and Zephyr, were taken straight from community concepts. Other Warframes lines, such as Mesa, were designed by the original Art Director, Mynki. The upcoming Warframe, Khora, was designed by an, at the time, artist at DE with just a good idea which took two years to make happen. When it comes to Warframe designs, there is no single artist behind them all, so they will all naturally look different. Their lore, however, allows them all the same origin - the Primes were designed by Ballas and the Archimedians, the regular Warframes were the mass produced designs. I could be wrong, but that is what I've come to understand from everything we have. I might be proven wrong - or right - by The Sacrifice, but until then we can't say for sure.

Dah-Dap, Surah.
