avivg666
I always wanted to land on a place similliar to earth,on a planet with grass, buildings, stuff like that ya know? Imagine grineers trying to shoot you from the windows as you run on the road,a Vehicle could be super awesome as well. its just my opinion but i think warframe has too many indoors map and alot of sniper users would love wider bigger maps that gives more freedom, what do you think? P.S my english sucks I dont need to know how bad it is ,thank you :)

hydrater
Town like maps don't exist cuz it would break the map creation mechanism. It will also cause a massive load of lag.

Well that's what I think: We CAN'T have that unless DE decided to rebuild the entire map creation mechanism (this will take 2 months at the fastest pace) so this would be one of the "daydream" threads. If DE decides to carry out your suggestion of a wide area map with the current system, computers will need to have a lot of processing power as well as ram memory to run it smoothly. Some players with wooden PC and connection won't be able to host properly. Which is why I think DE shouldn't adapt that idea because players will be making QQ threads about the game being laggy. Then, there will be QQ threads abt QQ threads followed by a bunch of hotfixes. Then there will be threads threatening DE that they will leave and Warframe will have a terrible review. It happened many times. Example 1: WE WANT PVP, well here's your PVP. "PVP SUX" "FROST OP" "RHINO OP" Example 2: WE WANT DOJO "PRICE TOO EX" "SO UNFAIR FOR SMALL CLANS" "I CAN'T HOST DOJO" Example 3: WE WANT NIGHTMARE MODE "NIGHTMARE MODE TOO EASY" "NOW IT'S TOO HARD" "I CAN'T FIND BLAZE" Example 4: WE WANT BOSS BUFF "ZOMG WTF LVL 100 VOR" "ZOMG WTF LEVEL 60 VOR" "ZOMG WTF NOOBSHET VOR" "SEER SO HARD TO FIND" If Warframe was built by a company who's genius and made it less laggy, I don't mind wide area maps. Currently, in DE, NO. Edited July 31, 2013 by hydrater
Alighierian
Your talking about the tech stuff behind building it ,Im talking about gameplay wise game-play wise there wouldn't be that much difference with how they create maps. you have tiles, and they're randomly generated so you have the same tiles but the map is never the same (with a few exceptions, mostly defence maps) you'd still have small tiles and bigger tiles, just with different models and different skins. I do agree that it would be nice to have a 5th map type: 'Ruins'. basically the remains of an old city where Grineer / Corpus are trying to find something and you have to stop them before they do, or you have to clear out grineer / corpus / infested so you can extract something of value
Shion963
The Grineer Settlement tileset is currently in the works, and DEvs have mentioned that it'll be set in a desert-ish area. And the Warframe's level generation is based on these rearrageable tiles. Chunks of maps containg rooms, corridors, objective points, that the level generator string together. Hence why the earlier tilesets were all ship rooms, caves, and corridors. Making large tile is possible (like the ones in the Corpus Outpost tileset), but IMHO making them 'truely' open is impossible. And Vehicles were discussed before, IIRC DEvs don't think that it's ninja enough. Yes, even bikes.

Zareek
I actually love this idea. Although I can see that some of the others are giving some good arguments why it wouldnt happen.

sk0m
No need for vehicles but adding other environments rather than spaceship interiors and those snowy outdoors maps would make the game soooo much more attractive. Giving the maps some extra colors.
DAWGUNITALPHA
Maybe even ruins of an old city that existed thousands of years ago man, anything could be cool This would be kinda cool, like the super ancient wrecked remains of earth cities. It'd give you a lot of stuff to parkour off of for the people who love that sort of thing, as well as regular paths for people who don't.
SwigglySwiggly
It would be a nice idea, the map generator problem could be solved if the town areas are walled off and have gates at certain places (so the town maps can be divided into different room/sections just like a normal map), the only problem is the open sky. fighting in open areas would be cool, only one problem, terrain... you can be fighting in a nice warm town or a frozen town or a dessert town, each planet needs a different type of environment. So!, (types of town sections/rooms) X (Environments) X (Planet terrains) = ALOT of developing, ALOT of memory use and ALOT of lag
Valentine_Grim
Mechanics aside, the actual lore states that rapid Grineer expansion swallowed colonies whole. There WERE colonies. Colonial settlements should still exist, even if deserted and sunk in dust. So, yeah, it would be lovely to tread these haunted grounds. You know, even if it would be just one map that never changes, but with good positioning potential it would still be something genuinely engaging - marching, holding ground, repositioning, eliminating Ballistas in the windows, wallcrawling mobile defending on a rooftops with frequent Grineer airborne infantry drops and tactical backtracking instead of one-way objective rush. Basically, yeah, a daydream...
Arsonide
Me and my friend were discussing the fact that there are no infested tilesets...and it makes no sense for there to ever be an infested tileset, because they infest other race's stuff. So we started thinking what loopholes we could find in that caveat. Colonial settlements are perfect. It's a new tileset, and infestation would hit the most populated areas the hardest. It'd look like a post apocalyptic zombie movie almost.
