A New Kind Of Weapon [Suggestion]... (Come And Check It Out)

This is an energy shield. Please read before you dismiss the idea

  -TLDR - It's a new energy research weapon for the corpus, I was thinking a moa using a version of it that fires a weapon like the spectra.

 

-NAME:  Ambroccik ("ambrozek")- The word for Water in Draucfcniian; Because:

 

 

                             "Your enemies futile attacks will break like water over this mighty shield and it's fury will come                                                                                                        crashing down on them like a wave of despair"

 

 

-DESCRIPTION: How about a energy barrier shield that is attached to your wrist and forearm.

_This can act as a shield when using the aiming type function and when you sprint with it you can knockdown a single opponent.

 

_when you use the basic attack its like Ash's Bladestorm swords in appearance and like a Halo energy sword in function.

 

_When you charge the weapon the shield raises and it works exactly like the charge and fire function of the Orgris and Lanka.

It releases a concussive blast of static electricity over a VERY short range (about five feet) that splatters the target if it kills them and if it doesn't it just barely staggers them enough so you could finish them with the basic melee attack. This attack is like a shot gun it has a wide spread but is designed to hit single enemies and do massive dmg, not to take out crowds.

 

_This weapon is balanced because timing is everything, Its not as easy to use as it sounds (refer to statistics)

 

-MODABILITY: Weapons have 6 mod slots, so for this weapon my thought was it will have 2 warframe slots and 4 weapon slots. So that mods like fast deflection and redirection could be applied (Not mods like continuity or streamline). The weapon mods however only affect the Concussive static electricity burst from the weapon (the charge attack) and the basic melee like attack...

 

-CONTROLS: basic melee controls

 

-MOVEMENT: As for semantics on moving, "come on DE it's an energy sheild not four inches of alloy plate..." so you should be able to move without penalty. 

 

-ACQUISITION: The enemy we acquire this from would be the Brand New "Corpus Barrier Men (or Moa)". So maybe a new research weapon... (and they could be using the new spectra as well..hint hint.. nudge nudge..

 

-ATTACK (type and use): This weapon will be a melee weapon

 

_It will utilise the same basic and heavy attack as most melee weapons and will also use block key.

 

_The sprint attack does no dmg, it simply knocks the enemy down then you can use the basic attack in another manner, shoving your "energy spike" into their chest and releasing a refined burst of the static electricity along with it dealing the same ammount of dmg as a charged blast, as this blast attack is focused it requires less ammo than the charged.

 

_The slide attack will be just another version (different cooler animation) of the sprint charge

 

_(idea if used a a main or secondary) A complex explanation for the use of solid projectile rounds in an energy weapon would be that like other corpus weaponry it uses an ammo conversion technology that applies the chemical reaction of the shotgun shell firing and converts this energy to a light and heat energy pulse which in turn is dispersed over a certain area such as the basic blade similar in appearance to Ash's ult power blades. This same reaction can be applied in another form when combined with the built up static electricity from the small electromagnetic core that fuels the shields and is released as a concussive pulse instead (the charge attack)

 

-LIMITATIONS: A list of balancing stats for the weapon

 

_NO crits

 

_Only 6 mod slots in totals (none with polarities) [2 warframe, 4 weapon]

 

_Base shield capacity is 200 / Base shield recharge is 10 (half of a warframes)

 

-CARRY OPTIONS:

 

_For now this is still up for grabs, Seems t be support for melee right now, Any suggestions?

I've wanted melee slot shields for a long time, particularly great shields with a bash attack. This sounds very similar but as an energy weapon, so I like it even more. I don't think it should be in a gun slot, so it wouldn't use left or right mouse button. It could be held up by holding the block key and burst with the melee key while holding it up. I wouldn't suggest a straight charge up, but more of a timer between uses; and I don't think you should be able to move doing that burst bash.

But thats just my two cents. We'll have to wait and see if we ever get shields in the first place. I kind of doubt it.

Sounds interesting enough, but I don't agree with being able to build specific elemental resistances in addition to elemental damage on the weapon. That sounds overpowered.

I think the percentage of dmg reduced should be half of what the mod does so depending on what slot it takes it wouldn't me more than a 45% reduction, I don't think serration (hornet strike) or multishot (split barrel) should affect its dmg reduction.

 

In fact I would prefer it to be an additional weapon type as Inthephonebox mentioned but this way it would be easier to implement...

No. Maybe a melee weapon with a shield and sword in conjunction once the block mechanic becomes viable, but just a shield? No. This isn't Call of Duty. We don't need Riot Shields mucking up our amazing game.

How's bout you just make an honest title. 

Last time I checked we didn't have a shield in the game; So technically it is a NEW type of weapon being suggested... The point behind any title is to grab the attention of those reading it. Seeing as your still here b!t@#ing about it, it must have done the job, I think i'll keep it just the way it is. ;)

You know, now that your not just being an @ss I can see what you mean, there is a large difference in being an @ss and giving constructive criticism. Perhaps next time forget insulting the thread and just ask someone to tweak the d@mned title...

OP - Interesting concept for a weapon. Any idea how you could make this a bit more balanced? Like a couple have mentioned Shield + Elemental Resistance + Static Discharge damage (with elemental mods) seems to be a bit overpowered. A simple knockback would be good, but if you throw too much damage in the mix, I feel most, if not all would feel the need to bring it.... just because it's extremely good at higher level play. 

 

Also if you are tying it to a weapon slot you must consider how it would be affected by other mods, would reload speed affect how quickly you could bring it up, how does penetration come into the picture, fire rate? etc...

Needs to be able to be thrown like captain america shield.

 

or charge attack should be a shield rush like captain america

I like it though I'd have to design a whole new type of shield for that, This one is meant for (splattering your enemies across the walls) through concussive energy bursts, Now wouldn't we all shudder in fear at an army of corpus dressed in red white and blue throwing energy shields at us, lol. Then again that would be awesome new enemy for high lvls...

I was just trying to find a unique new way to incorporate mods ad make it well.. unique. But you have a point, as I dont want move ment speed messed with something has to give.

 

Suggestions:

 

-a base charge time of 3 sec. and the charging is similar to the lanka and orgris.

 

-The elemental mods only affect the resistances and only serration, armor peircing, and perhaps a weapon specific mod would affect dmg.

 

-on the note of penetration, maybe it can only hit one enemy and mods like multishot and piercing hit will allow it to hit multiple enemies, that right their would balance it out alot, especially since those mods cost so much to put on.

 

-It will not have any starting polarity slots.

 

-Any other suggestions?

 

If this is to be put in its own slot then It will have a new set of balanced mods worked out for it but I doubt that will happen.

Hmm well DE has voiced concerns over their lackluster blocking mechanic in game, so who knows.

 

With that charge time aspect you put forward, it really could make use of fire rate (to increase charge speed) and reload speed (speeding up animation before you can begin a static discharge attack again). Still lost on what mag increase and ammo max could be used for though. 

 

I like the idea of being able to block but not discharge while in motion though. Sprint in shield up, *smash* (has a cool feel to it). Seems to have a decent balance, though probably a nightmare for the animation team. ;)

Perhaps a new way of thinking about mods, What about this has only six weapon slots and two warframe slots, neither set with any polarities. This would let you put things like fast deflection and redirection on it.

 

Also what if it acts like the warframes shields, say it has base 200 shields, and the weapons shields get worn down the more fire you take, then the balancing lies within how long it takes to recharge those shields (i'd say 10, half the rate of a warframe). When those shield s get taken down to zero there is a 2 sec delay until it starts recharging again.

 

A weapon specific mod like "dual core" (Gives secondary shield at 15% power, this can rank up to 90% with an additive rate of 15% percent per rank over five ranks. This mod will be rare and will start at 10 for the cost and end at 15 witch is more than fair for a mod this powerful.

 

A whole new discussion could be made on how to apply ammo to limit how the charge part works. It can use a heavy ammo type and have a limmited quantity or 5 shots per magazine and instead of reloading on command it has a cooldown time of 3 sec. The shield could have a base ammo pool of 100 and use shotgun as its an ammo type that is more rare than others. I suppose it would use the same ammo conversion tech as the corpus crewman rifle does as an explanation for having an energy burst instead of a solid projectile. 

 

In fact if it uses Shotgun mods that would be even better as they dont get much use because there isnt many shotguns

 

Also if the shield takes dmg then there is the inherent disadvantage towards enemies like corpus who will not be able to take the shields down fast as well as high lvl grineer.

 

^this would instill the need for a new type of mod as well for warframes and this shield, It could be called shield dampener, or Hard Shell, basically at final rank making you take half dmg to your shields... Base rank of 10, rare, starting percentage at 20% with three ranks ending at a rank rare 3 mod that gives 50% dmg reduction to shields. so the ending cost for the mod would be 13.

 

I like the idea of a sprint with the shield raised being able to knock down a single opponent, however I hate anything that spams knockdown so perhaps when the shield is charged at a normal walking speed then just like how the orgris is fired then is doesn't do knockdown at all, instead its like a concussive force, not armor piercing but if the enemy dies then splat (carnage, I like that name for the shield too), and if they aren't killed then it would be like a mild stagger along with the dmg done, just enough to let you melee them to finish them off.
