Aspari
I mean the camera focusing on Ash's new Bladestorm and the animations are probably the coolest thing in the game as far as visuals go, but I'm really not digging the wrist blades. I mean, if Ash has wrist blades built into it then why bother carrying a sword or a hammer or a staff?

fishworshipper
The wrist blades are too short range, and thus ineffective at melee combat. They also only work with thrusting attacks. Carry a hammer or sword for additional potential attacking techniques, and longer range. Edited August 3, 2013 by fishworshipper

I mean, if Ash has wrist blades built into it then why bother carrying a sword or a hammer or a staff? Because Assh's S#&$shtorm required too freaking much effort in comparison to other ults to make it look cool with ALL possible weapon types in game. So devs just decided to give him fixed animations, so they can stop bothering with "Why in hell we didint make this ult just an ordinary AoE nuke? And how in hell did we think this will work in real life with gadzilion of new weapons we add?". Edited August 3, 2013 by derclaw

fishworshipper
Kogake. Furax. Ankyros. You can strike forwards, left hook, right hook, uppercut, left kick, right kick, THIS IS SPARTA, downward strike. Versus, stab. Which lets you more attack in a greater variety of ways? Amistyrja
The wristblades are probably the best thing that ever happened to animations. A simple and very cool solution to the problem of making melee animations for Blade Storm.

waltonsi
There's just no way they could have added 6+ kill animations for the 10+ melee weapon-types in the game. Way too much work. These wristblades are an elegant solution. There's your real answer. If you want some frilly "in-game" explanation, the reason his wristblades deal so much damage and cut armor like butter is that they vibrate with incredible frequency on a molecular level. This takes a major energy expenditure from the suit. To conserve that energy, Ash also carries a regular weapon so he's not stuck constantly routing all of the warframe's juice to his blades. Kaibah
The only thing that I think sucks is how you can't re-colour the sheaths for them even though you can do the rest of the suit. Other than that, I think they're cool and you know Ash is serious when he brings out those bad boys. Edited August 3, 2013 by Kaibah

Cicadaph
Ash's wristblades work like Excalibur's ULT. DE had to put a static model for the action because as you noticed excalibur's radial aoe shoots javelins that are actually SKANAs, regardless of what weapon you're weilding. Unlike the other warframes, these two warframes rely on non elemental entities for ultis. BTW if you use dual Heat Swords or Dark Dagger with Ash, He uses those instead of the wristblades.. not sure if they removed that special weapon animation but yeah. fatpig84
Doesn't matter. Bladestorm still bugs out, while Radial Javelin still leaves excalibur vulnerable for 3 to 4 seconds....
