It took me a while to realized this but it was a program/Dream Teshin put the player/Tenno in to protect their mind against the Elder Queen. Which is why she lashed out at Teshin for the connection was broken and she couldn't sense the Tenno. To reinforced this idea Teshin is shocked when the Tenno returns and Teshin reveals that he had hoped the player escaped.

The game is built on gimmicks. Being able to jump into something for a tile or two if its useful would be fun. Turrets are in the game and pointless to jump into but they are useful for the AI but they give us the option nonetheless.

and Its already programed into the game....
