Hi everyone,

My name's Chris and I'm a CG artist by day, space ninja by night. My job is to create pre-rendered cinematic trailers for videogames. Here's a few recent examples of trailers I've had the pleasure to work on (alongside a small team of talented hard-working people)

I'm starting a personal project in which I'd like to make a pre-rendered cinematic trailer for Warframe.

I'll use what I can from the game assets and up-res and enhance however I can. Some assets will need to be modelled from scratch, and effects will be very fun to do. The Warframe universe lends itself very well to some incredible visuals. The rich lore (that I'm very happy to see is getting expanded more and more by DE) and power-trip you get while playing are the main things that keep me and my awesome wife glued to Warframe. So what better thing to do than to focus some of this passion into a nice little CG trailer.

It's very early days and I have no idea how long it will take, as it is in my spare time, and spare time is priceless (especially if there's a Nitain alert)

So far, I'd like to show a WIP look-dev image of Excalibur, enhanced for pre-rendered use.

Hey your portfolio looks really good!  And I'm interested in this Warframe project you propose.  Are you open to other people helping you?  I am a CGI artist as well.  Not professionally, but it is a hobby that I have earned money on the side from.  Here is some of my Warframe-inspired work.

Hey man, thanks! Glad you like my work. I think you've got some nice environment work. Keep it up, there's a good variety of art in your portfolio.

As for involving people in this, at the moment I'm not fully certain how far it will develop. Not closing any doors, just let's see where it goes! I see you use Blender, whereas I'm in 3ds Max, but for models that isn't an obstacle. Anything else though, it's a gap. Have you tried 3ds Max and V-Ray?

Haha 3ds Max and V-Ray are good programs, but they are a bit outside of how much I want to spend at the moment ;)  Besides, Blender is my baby.  I learned CGI on it, and I love it.  

Blender can export .obj files with complete textures and UV maps, so if you're open to accepting help on the modeling, it won't be a problem.  I figured I would help model whatever environments you were working on and send you the 3D files for the final stages in 3ds Max.  I think that would be a lot of fun and a healthy exercise.

what are you planning to make? I'd much rather make something for you than to just make random shapes when I'm bored (I'm still not finished the Nidus helmet someone asked me to do)

Not all sure on what the entire plan is, yet. Do you have an existing portfolio of your work somewhere?

HOLY cow, that is gorgeous work on Exalibur! Your attention to detail really shows, especially in the way the texture catch the lighting, and that lighting is REALLY pretty. My favorite bit is the bit of reflected/secondary lighting on the underside of Excal's neck and face, it really helps define the shape.

Thanks GaiusCaster!

Once the Excalibur mesh gets displaced with more detail than the game mesh initially had, you start getting nice interactions with the light that you couldn't before. Glad you like it :)
