Game not progressing past initial loading screen

I was taking a break from playing for a bit, and a couple hours later I started the game again. The launcher opened fine, but when I pressed the play button and the initial loading screen comes up, it gets stuck about a third of the way. I reopen it a couple times, same thing, I restart it, same thing, I verify and optimize the cache, same thing. I checked task manager and it said it was using all my network speed, but there was no update or anything showing up on the launcher, and if it is some kind of update then the game still isn't loading, or just loading so slowly I can't see it, has this happened to anyone else? 

Edit: it does appear to be loading, only very slowly so I'm assuming some download is taking place as my network speed is still being used. If so, then why would it update here and not on the launcher as usual? 

Edit 2: The game finally started and its now doing this same process in between every loading screen.
