Ketec
Ill leave kunai out of this since its worsethe Despair anyways. Hikou at 6.67 x 25 = 166,75 Despair 3.3 x 55 = 181,5 There is this little damage diff/s - with Hornet, that cap gets quite small. Hikou has double the clip, so less reloading "downtime". Hikou also has 100% stagger that Despair doesnt. Hikou does Serrated Blade damage - Ignores armor AND does 3x damage to light infested. Hikou does full damage to ancients. While Despair Armor Penetration does half damage to infested And AP damage is elemental - resistances apply.
MetalGerbil
dont forget ammo efficiency. you run out of ammo quicker on the hikou. much quicker. armor pen is badass on the really heavy stuff, while armor ignore still needs armor pen to truly shine. light infested are light. you can cough on them and they will implode. 100% stagger is NOT a good thing. with despair you can get more consistent headshots, things go down faster. MetalGerbil
No need for any more explanations from me doesn't it? i did forget that do to the % based nature of mods, higher base damage scales FAR better than something with lower damage but faster attack speed. Ketec
hikou with 200% dmg hornet = 500,25s despair = 544,5s Dont see that big of a "scaling". % based mods dont scale better for higher base damage vs lower + speed - it just feels like it does if you see bigger damage numbers. What matters is any resistances or misses. 25 dmg at 2x speed and 100% dmg boost would be 100 dmg/s 50 dmg at 1x speed and 100% dmg boost would be 100 dmg/s
Reithur
DPS for Hikou is pretty impressive, but you can't sustain that for long, even with a maxed Trick Mag. Ammo drops seem better all around, so you may not need a Pistol Scav equipped. I often end up dumping half a clip of high DPS weapons into bodies that are falling down instead of the enemies behind them, so controlling your fire rate really improves efficiency. Like the above said, higher base damage with AP is better at higher levels. If you're that concerned with light infested, equip a melee with multi-hit and start swinging. The Hikou deals a similar amount of damage to the despair, but does using the twice the amount of ammo the despair uses. So in theory, they do similar amounts of damage, but run out of ammo twice as fast. And for kunai's sake, it deals armor ignore (always a plus for me), has slightly less damage output than hikou, but like despair, runs out of ammo slower thank hikou. Lol I chose kunai because of armor ignore and ammo economy. I already had this debate with my brother. I won xD
basilioss
Note: You said reloading has less "downtime". That is wrong because they both use the same amount of time to empty a clip, Hikou just uses double the ammo while looking preeettttyyy cool. Blazer-X
While Despair Armor Penetration does half damage to infested And AP damage is elemental - resistances apply. No. People are still getting this wrong. Armor Penetration is not like the other elemental damages: It deals armor ignore damage that is ONLY half for Infested Crawlers, Chargers, and Walkers. First of all, this means it is not affected by armor because, like Serrated Blade and Physics Impact, Armor Penetration also mitigate armor completely. Second, it still deals 100% damage to Ancients, the Infested enemies you should worry the most about. In exchange for the lower damage against Infested Cannon Fodders, it deals extra damage to Corpus Heads (2x) and Medium Grineers (1.5x). Edit: Oh, and for the topic at hand... For the game's hardest enemies in each faction (Grineer Heavies, Ancients, and... Fusion MOA?), Kunai, Despair, and Hikou all deal their 100% base damage. In this case, Despair clearly wins thanks to its higher base damage (55 > 50 (Hikou's 2x25) > 45), and is twice as ammo efficient as Hikou for more damage. So really, outside of Phorid and Infested Cannon Fodders, Hikou does not really shine all that much. Even Kunai is arguably better than the Hikou when fighting Grineer, Corpus, and Infested Ancients thanks to its ammo efficiency. Zombie_Sprinklez
Actually I wouldn't leave the Kunai out. All three of these weapons are completely situational. Here: Despair: Its innate AP Damage makes it great against the Grineer and Corpus. Hikou: Its innate Armour Ignore and Serrated Blade damage type makes it great for infested. Kunai: It has Armour Ignore, and is the best of the three for high-wave infested defense.

Just because armour piercing can be applied via mods, and does half damage against a small selection of units, does not make it any less armour ignoring than any of the other armour ignoring damage types. It's a wide spread misconception that 90% of players seem to repeat every time the subject is brought up.
