My Spin On The "escape" Mission Idea

I was reading some ideas about the "Rescue" mission type and decided this might be a good time to present an idea I've been kicking around for a couple hours.

It could make a great replacement for the unpopular Rescue missions, but it would require new assets to be fully fleshed out. Specifically, it would need mission-specific voiceovers from the Lotus, and some system that would allow the player to control a "hostage-like" character for part of the mission. Also, while not strictly necessary, it would be a chance to show players more about how the Warframes work. How would you even go about "putting them on?" Can that even be done? Obviously, it isn't required, but if DE wants to put something there, this mission type might be a good spot for it.

Now, to set the scene.

Somehow, you have been captured. You will need to reclaim your gear and escape to freedom. This hypothetical mission type would include some stealth (minimal if possible; this isn't Metal Gear) and hacking elements, opening up to more standard gameplay once you've found your weapons/Warframe.

I imagine it going more or less like this, with various optional ideas:

______________________________________

[] You "regain consciousness" in an enemy facility, most likely in a "Jail" tile like the ones already in-game.

   * Optionally, maybe even something like those workshop/operating table areas I've seen in the Corpus tileset.

   * In the case of a Squad, multiple members may need to spawn in similar tiles throughout the map. More than two Tenno would probably have a hard time being stealthy in some tile layouts.

[] You now need to escape this room and establish contact with the Lotus.

   * I'm thinking something like the current hacking mechanic would be fine for this, but some new concept would probably work better. Players would need to hack the door open and disable a localized comm jammer that is blocking their link to the Lotus.

[] The Lotus can now give you and your squad the location of your weapons and Warframes as standard objective waypoints. The enemy have wisely stored your weapons and Warframes in different rooms, some distance apart.

[] Players will need to choose:

   (a) Acquire your weapons first (more firepower, but more fragile should you be detected and need to do battle)

   (b) Suit up first and carry "standard issue" enemy weapons (the flip side of a; your frame/abilities/mods, but a seriously underwhelming weapon)

    * Some camera-hacking system could be added to provide you with a temporary "Enemy Radar" effect, making stealth more practical. After all, No Gear and High Level Enemies don't sound fun together.

    * Whether (a) or (b) is chosen, the player(s) would need to be provided a melee weapon for attempting stealth kills.

    * With a squad, different players would have the option to split up and acquire their gear in different orders.

[] Now that you've got your kit together, you're going to need a ride. Thankfully, the Lotus has had time to prepare your extraction. Unless...

  * Here's where additional objectives could be tacked on, just like most missions.

"Since you're here, Tenno... mind running a little errand while I prepare your transport?"

As always, any thoughts, additions, suggestions or criticisms are appreciated. The better we can fill out ideas like this, the better their chances of turning into something cool and fun.

Cheers,

sounds interesting but i dont think it should be a standard mission type more like a random chance mission kind of like the cryo or fire mission tilesets.

unless its set up as you allow yourself to be captured to find a certain facility it doesnt make much sense.

How would that work, exactly? Are you saying you want to give every mission a chance to become this type? I have a feeling people wouldn't like that.

That's a possibility. I wanted to leave the "how" up for debate, but your idea sounds like a good enough reason for the Lotus.

"We pieced together some enemy intel regarding weapons shipments from a secret facility. Our best option for infiltrating this facility is to have the enemy take you there."

Works for me. One issue with that would be the "why." If we're going to all that trouble, surely the Lotus wants us to do something specific once we're there. That sounds like an automatic extra objective to me, and that could be a problem.
