VegetableBasket
I'm really starting to miss the old mod system. The randomized stats and stat combinations really made the game feel like a dungeon crawler. Right now every mod we pick up seems stale, disappointing, another item to throw at serration. Could we get a randomized loot system to work in tandem with the mod loadout system? Like talismans or something we could attach to gear and potentially trade in the near future. I think the random factor can't be underestimated, nor can the economic interactions possible with a barter economy this could create. I think there's a lot of potential for itemization (a la Path of Exile) such as void keys/alert missions with properties (tower 3 capture, -50% player shields, melee does 20% less damage, +40% mod drops, +80% affinity, etc). Nightmare mode comes close to this, but every stab at a given mission is the same, and the rewards are static in a sense. I also think this is another way to extend the perfectionist's playtime, but it could be seen as a difficult hurdle since everyone likes perfect stats. Do you guys crave more variability or do you prefer simplicity/stability? Edited August 6, 2013 by VegetableBasket

The thing with randomize things is that it's not fair. Some people will have better luck and get better things. The problem with the old mod system as I remembered was that I would get 23 - 24.x% melee charge damage and constantly get that while other people were getting 45 - 50%. I've gotten about 4 of them and not a single one was 50% not to mention they were pretty rare. The thing is it doesn't promote hard work. Since if you're unlucky no matter how hard you try or how much time you put into it you'll never do as much damage as the other guy. DanPaul7
Oh I definitely preferred it when we had the mods with more random stats. Random stat items really keep me playing just to find something that little bit better!
TemetNosce
I agree here, while no system that relies on chance is fair in terms of results (although they are fair in opportunity), I don't see how the current system doesn't rely on chance, and by implementing variance in possible rewards DE would hugely increase the replay value, at least for those of us who love hunting for that perfect item, or fiddling with small adjustments. Archistopheles
I would like two things right now: 1. Play the mission I actually clicked 2. Know what's going on before I break through the grate in the ceiling
Aspari
Since DE is set on the whole RPG/MOBA set-up for weapon progression I'd like to see randomized stats return. People like to say it's unfair but RNG is and always will be unfair. I know some people who've grinded all over Pluto for Split Chamber and never got it, and they've been doing it for a very long time.

Which is why we need to focus on further detaching RNG from the game, rather than trying to incorporate it into the game as a core mechanic. The bottom line is, RNG systems are horribly outdated - there are far better replacements for an RNG, that much is certain.

Those guy who farm forever would oneday stumble upon it only to find out it's 50% instead of 99.1% like everyone else. I wonder which is fairer and more liked by the ppl who are in that situation of never finding the split chamber mod.
VegetableBasket
I'm not suggesting you wouldn't know what was going on in a mission, just that there would be missions with altered stats similar to nightmare mode but increased rewards. And while RNG isn't "fair" innately, it can be, by adding ways to reroll items or upgrade items, etc. The best way I can explain it is just to direct you to Path of Exile's orb system. Not saying this game need to be that one, but the design is incredible and there's no harm in borrowing smart ideas.
